Within the Immortal Destiny Sect, the Forging Hall had always been at odds with the Immortal Herb Hall.
A big sect’s daily resource consumption was amazing: the cultivation needs of disciples and elders as well as the sect’s operational costs were only a part of the requirements. To satisfy those gluttonous mouths, the supply departments needed to be fully optimised for efficiency.
A long time ago, the Immortal Destiny Sect had an equitable supply system, that is, regardless of the contribution of each hall, the remuneration would be the same. This made certain tasks seem onerous, so the system was quite criticised by disciples such as those in the Forging Hall. Later, an accumulative incentive system was introduced from the outside, and all tasks were converted into a corresponding contribution value. The halls at the bottom would receive a reduced budget, which would be diverted to the top-ranked departments as a reward.
The Immortal Herb Hall has been ranked last in the school for four consecutive years. Other halls and even some elders had been pushing for a resolution to completely abolish the Immortal Herb Hall and outsource planting tasks instead. If this resolution came into effect, the biggest beneficiaries would be top-ranked departments like the Forging Hall.
If the Immortal Herb Hall couldn’t complete its tasks this year, then next year the department would no longer exist in the Immortal Destiny Sect.
During this recruitment period, many of the disciples who were in charge of registration and assessment at the entrance of the sect were told: “Destroy the Immortal Herb Hall and get back our budget!”
Joe Bloggs had also received this information, not to mention that he himself was uncomfortable looking at the Immortal Herb Hall. The number of immortal herbs and spirit plants they produced was pitiful, but they were still able to get spirit stones from sect. It was a complete waste of resources! With that money, it was better to buy a few more spirit treasures for the Forging Hall!
It was unclear which part of this self-taught cultivator’s brain was wired incorrectly. He didn’t choose a shortcut like the Forging Hall, but rather a department that would definitely be abolished within the year!
Although it was stipulated that the strength beyond the 5th Rank of Qi Refining could not be used, Easy Mode 5th Rank of Qi Refining and Hard Mode 5th Rank of Qi Refining were completely different concepts. For those who knew to pay the “Examination Fee” before the start of the assessment, they would experience the Easy Mode 5th Rank of Qi Refining.
As for the person in front of him, not only did he not know the rules, but he just had to choose the Immortal Herb Hall. Thus, he would directly experience the Hell Mode assessment.
“The examination begins!”
The Eldest Sister personally lit the incense to prevent anyone from tampering with it. Joe Bloggs didn’t waste any time either. His true energy was flowing, his hand seals revolved, and in a split second he released one of the commonly used fire spells from the Minor Five-Elemental Spells, the Fireball.
Don’t look down on this little Fireball, under the use of this disciple of a big sect, the flames were hot and condensed. Even the onlookers could feel the emitted waves of heat. Compared to the Fireballs used by the self-taught cultivators who were previously examined, they seemed to be totally different spells.
“Go!”
With a shout from Joe Bloggs’s mouth, the Fireball crossed the sky and shot towards Ye Xing, seemingly powerful enough to make him directly leave the arena.
The Eldest Sister watching from the sidelines instantly felt her heart jump, her hands were folded nervously. Over the years, fewer and fewer people had chosen the Immortal Herb Hall. Last year there was only one. If it wasn’t for Ye Xing this year, perhaps there would’ve been none.
Though unknown whether or not it was due to a breeze blowing in the field, Ye Xing’s body slightly shifted, coincidentally dodging the Fireball.
Joe Bloggs was stunned for a moment. Fortunately, his mind was calm, and soon a rapid series of the same Fireballs were shot over. Only with maximum effort would it be possible for the normal 5th Rank of Qi Refining to block them.
But Ye Xing held his ground, and with a shake of his body, all the fireballs brushed past him.
Avoiding one could be an accident, but avoiding all of them was definitely not due to good luck. Joe Bloggs immediately judged that this guy had at least one Evasion Technique!
Having one or two unique skills made you feel 100% confident? There’s occasionally one or two such self-taught cultivators, but how can us immortal sect disciples be simple?
His hand seals changed, and another Minor Five-Elemental Spell appeared, Savage Wind!
“Go again!”
Unlike the single-target nature of the Fireball, Savage Wind is an area attack. Under the size constraints of the arena, it should be impossible to hide this time!
He raised his eyebrows, triumphantly looking at the woman in black robes outside the arena, even distractedly saying to her: “Fairy Linglong, how was my Savage Wind? It didn’t exceed the limits of a 5th Rank cultivator, right?”
The Eldest Sister of the Immortal Herb Hall had the canonical epithet “Linglong”. She had apparently taken charge of the Immortal Herb Hall since the last elder passed away, giving her the highest seniority here. She was currently a cultivator at the peak of the Qi Refining Realm, half a step away from becoming a True Person at the Foundation Building Realm.
As a fragrant flower less than twenty years old with cultivation at the peak of Qi Refining, she could’ve easily become a full-time disciple, or even an inner disciple; however, she chose to stay in the Immortal Herb Hall. Were it not for her support, the Immortal Herb Hall would’ve been abolished a few years ago.
She herself was very arrogant, showing no trace of fear in front of those groups discussing the abolition of the Immortal Herb Hall.
“Joe Bloggs, do you have shame? The cultivation base that you used did not exceed the 5th Rank of Qi Refining, but Savage Wind isn’t something that can be learnt there!”
Senior Sister Linglong was so angry that her willow eyebrows went upside down. This guy was clearly making it difficult, attacking Ye Xing with a Five-Elemental Spell that could only be mastered at the higher levels of Qi Refining.
But she was also helpless, the regulations never said that high-level spells could not be used. However, in the next moment, her eyes widened in amazement as she looked into the arena.
The swirls of Savage Wind, piercing as knives, were constantly beating on Ye Xing’s body. Even the sound of clothes being cut apart could be heard, but Ye Xing himself reacted as if it was only a light breeze running across his face, showing no pain at all.
Joe Bloggs also gazed at him unexpectedly, was it possible that he didn’t use Savage Wind but Soft Wind instead?
“Sorry, I might be a bit hard,” Ye Xing scratched his head and said.
“I just wanted to see what the Minor Five-Elemental Spells were. Now, is it my turn to attack?”
Before the other party could answer, Ye Xing stepped forward, and without even using true energy, directly launched a punch with his physical body.
In a panic, Joe Bloggs used the Earth Wall of the Minor Five-Elemental Spells. Yet, it did not help at all. The wall was broken by the punch, and together with the gravel, Joe Bloggs flew into the air, becoming the first examiner to lose during the assessments!
