Just as they entered the space, the two little ones immediately ran to Ji Feng's feet, circling around him, occasionally rubbing against his ankles, wanting to show their affection.
"Alright, alright, this time I'll take you to the market. Let's go, all of us together." Ji Feng squatted down with a light laugh, patting the heads of the two little ones, then stood up and walked towards the market, with the two little ones following his steps automatically.
Ji Feng didn't need to tie them up at all. Since the moment he bought them and signed the contract, he had become their owner. Although the pet shop owner repeatedly emphasized that these were definitely not ordinary dogs but belonged to the category of magical beasts, Ji Feng still believed they were just pure dogs. Otherwise, why would they eat dog food so well?
Exiting the door and reaching the entrance of the market, he saw that the number of stalls on his side had increased significantly as neighboring shops opened. The last time he came, there were only five or six stalls, but this time, the number had tripled, and even the stall from the Republic of China era that he had dealt with before had moved over.
"Hey, Xiao Ji, you haven't been here for a while. What do you plan to get this time?" Seeing Ji Feng appear at the entrance and head straight to his stall, the owner immediately smiled broadly, showing his teeth. After all, the Republic of China bonds that Ji Feng had exchanged last time had made him a substantial profit, so he had decided to set up a stall here.
"Mr. Tong, your business is booming. It looks like you made quite a bit last time." Ji Feng greeted him with a chuckle, then glanced at the items on the stall, where he indeed found Japanese government bonds.
"Just making a living, earning a bit of pocket money. I can't compare to you, Xiao Ji." Mr. Tong squinted his eyes, his face full of smiles.
"Alright, I don't want to wander around. How much are the Japanese bonds? What years do you have?" Ji Feng casually picked up the Japanese government bonds on the stall and looked at them. The earliest ones were from 1902, and there were also ones from 1905, spanning several decades, with some even dating to 1951.
When Mr. Tong heard that Ji Feng wanted Japanese bonds, his smile became a bit unnatural. "Xiao Ji, why don't you look at bonds from other countries? Japanese bonds are the least valuable. I just put them out to see if anyone would be interested."
Ji Feng laughed. "I happen to have a bit of a grudge with Japan. Give me fifty years' worth, half of the amount they issued back then. Name your price, but don't rip me off, or I'll go to someone else. Since you say they're not worth much, I can't be the one to lose out."
Mr. Tong smiled bitterly. "I don't know how many there are. You can have someone count them after you buy them. They're sold by the ton, 300 dragon coins per ton. There might be some damage, but no more than ten percent. In our world, Japan has been destroyed, so their bonds are worthless, even too hard to use as toilet paper."
"Ha!"
Even though Ji Feng knew Japanese bonds were worthless, he didn't expect them to be less valuable than toilet paper. But when he heard that Japan had been destroyed, he couldn't help but ask for more details.
Mr. Tong told the story as if it were a joke, and Ji Feng finally understood. In the world where Mr. Tong lived, Japan had existed but, after invading China and attacking Pearl Harbor, they were bombed with two atomic bombs by the United States. Despite this, they refused to repent and were eventually wiped out by NATO, led by the United States, and now Japan was a state of the United States.
Ji Feng was speechless. Compared to the world he lived in, the United States in Mr. Tong's world was incredibly powerful, having completely destroyed Japan.
Shaking his head, Ji Feng said, "The price is a bit high. You said they're even too hard to use as toilet paper. I'll give you 100 dragon coins per ton, no more. If I take out so many and they don't exchange them, I'll be stuck with them."
Mr. Tong looked at Ji Feng in surprise and then said excitedly, "You mean you can exchange them? Is there still a Japan in your world?"
Ji Feng wanted to slap himself for his loose tongue. He nodded reluctantly, "Yes, there's still Japan, but I don't know if they'll exchange them. Besides, if the two Japans are different, I'll be at a huge loss."
"Ha ha, Xiao Ji, this is fantastic. I have a batch of Japanese artifacts. If you pay 150 dragon coins per ton, I'll give them to you. By the way, what year is it in your world?" Mr. Tong was almost dancing with excitement. The news from Ji Feng was incredibly exciting. As long as Japan still existed, these bonds wouldn't be worthless. This was the first time in years that someone had wanted Japanese bonds.
"Um, not too late, it's 1960. I'll take the artifacts for 110 dragon coins per ton." Ji Feng was more cautious this time and didn't reveal the actual year.
"1960, so Japan probably doesn't have much money. 120 dragon coins, no less. I have a lot of artifacts. If you keep them for a few years or sell them to someone from a later era, you can earn back the dragon coins." Mr. Tong smiled bitterly.
Ji Feng thought about it and agreed. After all, this was a ton, worth at least several hundred billion. 120 dragon coins could only buy two World War II destroyers, so it was quite a bargain.
Mr. Tong told Ji Feng to come back later to pick up the goods and then hurried back to fetch them. Ji Feng took the opportunity to walk around the market.
When he returned, Mr. Tong was already back, holding a spatial bag. He opened it and showed Ji Feng the contents. Inside were five containers, one filled with Japanese government bonds and the other four with early Japanese artifacts. Ji Feng was stunned, and his eyes widened as he looked at Mr. Tong, wondering if he had dug up the Japanese emperor's ancestral tomb in their world.
After paying 570 dragon coins, the five full containers became Ji Feng's property. He put them in his spatial bag and returned to the hall.
Back in the hotel room, Ji Feng realized it was already noon. He went out to join everyone for lunch but found no one around; they had all gone out to play. So, he decided to take care of himself.
In the evening, when Spark returned, he saw two-meter-high stacks of Japanese government bonds in the living room of Ji Feng's suite, filling the room. His eyes nearly popped out.
"Boss, where did you get these?" Spark ran over and checked them, finding Japanese government bonds from 1903 to 1951, with a pile of unsorted ones on the floor.
Stretching lazily, Ji Feng wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Don't ask where they came from. They're all real. Get people to sort them out. My bedroom is also full; I have nowhere to sleep."
After taking out a container of bonds, the entire suite, including the bedroom, was filled. Ji Feng was almost in tears. If he had to sort them himself, it would take forever. But to make things difficult for Japan, he was willing to work hard.
Spark wiped his forehead, feeling frustrated. "Boss, are you planning to empty the Bank of Japan? This is too much. They can't possibly pay out so much at once, with interest, it would be trillions of yen."
Ji Feng sniffed, straightened up, and poured a cup of coffee, taking a sip. "I don't care if they're empty. As long as they're willing to exchange, I'll allow them to pay in installments, but the faster, the better. I'm counting on this to buy a bank for you to play with."
Spark's eyes lit up, and he was suddenly full of energy. "I'll get people right away. This time, I won't be called Spark if I don't take a big bite out of Japan."
Watching Spark rush out of the room, full of energy, Ji Feng smiled. The others were finally back, and he was relieved to be free from the heavy physical labor.
A few minutes later, when the team members gathered in Ji Feng's room, they were also stunned by the massive amount of bonds. Then, under Spark's urging, they all reluctantly started the sorting work.
After two days of hard work by a dozen people, they finally finished. The total face value of the Japanese government bonds exceeded 980 billion yen, which left everyone in shock. This was just the face value. With 60% or more of the bonds accruing interest over decades or even a century, the interest alone was several times the face value, not to mention the appreciation of the bonds themselves.
"Thank you all for your hard work. I'll take 1% of the exchanged amount as a team bonus. Don't be shy; take as much as you can from Japan. The more interest you calculate, the more you'll get."
Ji Feng's words immediately lifted everyone's spirits. They cheered and high-fived, vowing to make Japan bleed heavily.
After a morning of rest, Spark and the others eagerly entered the Bank of Japan in the afternoon. Sato Daishima personally received them. In three days, he had already negotiated the exchange with the Ministry of Economy. They had discovered that Spark and his team had exchanged over 15 billion US dollars in Europe over the past half month. They wanted to default, but they were worried about the influence of UBS on the world economy, especially since other countries had already exchanged their bonds.
