Shu Yian didn’t even bother acknowledging Su Wen’s words. Who was she kidding? Why would she just obediently listen to Su Wen? Does Su Wen think she will go just because Su Wen said so?

Although she had made an agreement with Su Wen, she was not going to put herself in an awkward position because of it.

“I’m not going!” She refused directly and resolutely, “If you really lack a female companion to go with you….”

Shu Yian pointed at Zhou Yu who was watching the whole thing with a face full of ‘oh, this is some juicy gossip’ and said, “Take Secretary Zhou with you then.”

Su Wen: “Then it’s settled.”

She turned her gaze to Zhou Yu and said, “Secretary Zhou.”

Zhou Yu immediately lowered her head and began typing the keyboard. Then she slowly raised her head, as if she wasn’t eating melon seeds to the side just now and instead a diligent little workaholic who only cared about her work and only participated in the conversation because Su Wen called her.

“President Su, did you say something….”

【My god, please don’t let me attend the banquet, I can’t even dance!】

【President Su, if you’re taking me to the banquet because you’re throwing a tantrum with Miss Shu, then I….then I look down upon you for doing so! 】

Shu Yian heard Zhou Yu’s thoughts and couldn’t help laughing out loud. One couldn’t blame her, this secretary really is too partial towards her that she would insult her own boss!

It was only a chuckle, but it momentarily blinded Su Wen’s eyes.

If she remembers correctly, this is the first time she’s ever seen Shu Yian smile and laugh sincerely. It was completely different from her previous smiles which were all fake.

This woman…really is bent on staying as far away as possible from her.

Of course, her original intentions were to stay away from Shu Yian as much as necessarily, but she had no other choice. Shu Yian had to attend the banquet two days from now as her fiancee.

The corners of Su Wen’s mouth lifted upwards. She felt a surge of happiness as she thought what Shu Yian’s reaction to her next few words would be.

“Secretary Zhou, your task is to take Miss Shu shopping for a dress in the afternoon.” She ordered Zhou Yu and then after speaking, shot a smug look full of schadenfreude at Shu Yian.

【I won’t follow along with your wishes! I’m going to anger you to death!】

Shu Yian glared at the other person. She really wished she could choke the person in front of her to death.

How childish!

Fine, if she’s going to buy a dress, she’ll just buy one! Anyhow, at least this infuriating woman won’t be there.

Shu Yian pushed past the person in front of her and then, still feeling quite angry, “accidentally” stepped on Su Wen’s foot, causing the woman’s face to turn red with pain.

“Shu Yian, you….” She was about to explode in anger when she saw Zhang Jiao walking towards them.

Zhang Jiao had heard the conversation between Shu Yian and Su Wen. However, the reason she did not come over sooner was because of Shu Yian. She really didn’t know how she should deal with that woman anymore. So when she saw that Shu Yian had entered the office, she hurriedly walked over to greet SU Wen.

“Hello, President Su. I am Zhang Jiao.” Zhang Jiao stretched out a hand. As a jewelry designer hired at a high price by Su Wen’s company, she had a certain status that couldn’t be ignored.

However, Su Wen didn’t show her any face and completely ignored her outstretched hands.

It’s true that the company needs excellent designers, but Su Wen values a person’s character over their ability. Someone who ridicules and mocks others, no matter how outstanding they are, can only go so far.

“Secretary Zhou, notify Human Resources and tell them to fire her.” She didn’t even glance at ZHang Jiao as she gave her order and walked into the office without waiting for a reply, leaving only Zhang Jiao and Zhou Yu standing there with dumbfounded looks.

Zhang Jiao never expected that she would be fired on the first day of work. She is someone well-known in the jewelry design circles and who knows how many companies compete with each other to hire her. Now, although Su Wen had only lightly said one sentence, she was directly out of a job.

Where should she put her face now?

How can she maintain her treasured pride?

What would others think of her?

Zhang Jiao didn’t have any bargaining chips she could use to negotiate with Su Wen, so she could only squeeze her fist. Even if she was full of resentment, she could only endure it as she could not leave an even worse impression on Su Wen. The only thing she can do now is ask that person for help.

She must keep her job here at Su Wen’s company. She cannot allow herself to be seen as a joke by mothers.

After Zhang Jiao left in a hurry, Zhou Yu finally came back to her senses.

【Damn! Did President Su eat gunpowder for breakfast today? Why is she driving out someone who just came to report for work….】

Zhou Yu was farther away so she didn’t hear Shu Yian’s and Zhang Jiao’s conversation. Therefore, she was completely puzzled by Su Wen’s behavior, but after a while, she decided to focus on her work instead.

Meanwhile, in the office, Su Wen didn’t bother with continuing the previous argument. Although she occasionally took the time to quarrel with Shu Yian, she still needed to focus on finishing her work first.

She ignored Shu Yian and returned to looking at her documents instead. Meanwhile, Shu Yian sat to the side in a daze.

Her current findings on Shu Yian were puzzling. From the thoughts of the people she met so far, everyone one of them mentioned that this body had a “big change in personality half a year ago.”

What could have happened to make a previously gentle and quiet person change their entire personality?

From what Zhang Jiao said, the original owner of this body went crazy. Was it because the original host went through some kind of shock that affected her soul or….

Or was it because someone else entered the body midway, kicking the original host out and occupied the body for themself?

System?

Shu Yian could not reach a conclusion for the time being so she could only summon the system, but she did not receive a helpful answer.

The system’s answer was: [Not sure.]

Did the system really not know or is it hiding something? Shu Yian was uncertain.

However, what she did know for certain was that the original owner of this body must have been an important character in the book. According to the usual novel tropes, even if the protagonist appears, this character would not be so quickly made into canon fodder.

She must have a certain important existence in the book. This can be seen from the fact that when such an important thing such as the protagonist disappearing occurred, the system chose this character for transmigration. Therefore, in the original script of the book, this Shu Yian must be a real character and not one created by the system for the sake of the mission. That means the “soul” of the “real” Shu Yian must still be out there, somewhere.

However, the person who now resides in this body is her….

So what about the soul of the original host?

Whether she went crazy or someone else took over her body, it didn’t matter. The important question is, where is the original host’s soul?

Or maybe all none of these conjectures are right. Perhaps an accident occurred and the original host died, thus leaving an empty body behind? Or maybe because the system needed to send someone to complete the task, it forcibly swapped the souls and placed the original host’s soul in some sort of soul jail?

Furthermore, why did the protagonist disappear in the first place?

The more she thought, the more messy and confused her brain became. In the end, the sound of a phone ringing broke her out of her reverie.

Both her and Su Wen glanced at the name displayed on the phone’s screen.

Su Wen never used the speaker when answering the phone, but considering her current “relationship” with Shu Yian and the identity of the caller, she decided to turn on the speaker. In the first place, in regards to this matter, she thought it best not to keep this secret form Shu Yian.

The person on the other side of the phone spoke first. The clear sound of a female’s voice sounded,

“Do you have the time to talk?”

The girl’s voice was soft and sweet like honey, and could melt anyone’s hearts with its sugary sweetness. Even if one didn’t have a voice fetish, this type of voice would make anyone want to willingly want to talk with the other person more. At least that’s what Shu Yian thought.

However, Su Wen will always be the expectation.

“No.” Su Wen answered directly and was able to perfectly convey the sentiment of ‘I have no time to talk with you’ with just the tone of her voice.

The female on the other end of the call seemed to be familiar with Su Wen’s behavior and didn’t show any embarrassment at all. Instead, she naturally followed up with, “Want to have lunch together later? It’s been a long time since I last saw you.”

Su Wen paused her typing on the keyboard for a moment. She really didn’t want to meet up with Yan Ruxue, but….she looked at Shu Yian from the corners of her eyes. Then she made up her mind.

“En. Book a reservation for three people. I will bring Little An over to see you.”

The girl’s voice sounded puzzled, “Little…An?”

Su Wen then emphasized her next few words, “Shu Yian, my financee.”

The person on the other side of the phone paused and then her voice sounded slightly bitter as she said, “I see..”

Su Wen then hung up the phone. She glanced at Shu Yian who had been quiet this entire time and explained with two words, “A friend.”

Shu Yian replied indifferently with an, “Oh.”

It seems to be a special friend, otherwise Su Wen wouldn’t act so unnaturally.

Shu Yian occasionally likes to eat some melon seeds for fun, but if it involved Su Wen’s matters, then she did not want to eat any. (T/N: eating melon seeds means to watch on the sidelines and by saying she did not want to eat any means she does not want to even know what’s going on)

There is an old saying: “Curiosity killed the cat.” If she tried to dig deeper into the matters involving a vile woman like Su Wen, although she won’t be killed, she definitely won’t get anything good out of it.

Shu Yian did not want to tread into these muddy waters.

Perhaps it’s because their eight characters* don’t match or something, because the more she didn’t want to know the more Su Wen wanted her to. (T/N: eight characters is like your astrology sign, some signs just don’t get along with the other. In Chinese culture, if your eight characters don’t match with someone, you are bound to be at odds with this person.)

When Su Wen began to speak…..no, it was more like Su Wen had directly started playing a flashback. So even if Shu Yian didn’t want to listen she was pulled into it.

Su Wen and Yan Ruxue went to the same schools since childhood. From elementary school to university, Yan Ruxue was there beside her. Yan Ruxue was one year younger than Su Wen and was always trying to follow in the other’s footsteps. In the past, Su Wen had thought that the child looked up to her like an older sister. However, when she got older, she realized that there was something wrong with Yan Ruxue’s feelings.

Yan Ruxue’s feelings could no longer be considered as just friendship. Even if Yan Ruxue didn’t outright confess her love to Su Wen, anyone could tell that she was in love. Su Wen was also not stupid, so of course she understood what was going on.

She had repeatedly told Yan Ruxue many times that she only regarded Yan Ruxue as a good friend and a little sister. Yet, even when she made it extremely clear, the other’s feelings for her did not diminish.

Her rejections didn’t work at all and the child would always answer back cheerfully, “I know”. However, Yan Ruxue continued to act like she didn’t know.

So Su Wen had no other choice but to start hiding from her. However, in the end, this was still someone she has known for over 20 years. So even if she hides, she can’t disregard these last bits of affection for the other and could only try to find excuses to avoid Yan Ruxue.

But now there is a Shu Yian in the picture. If the child sees her being “lovey-dovey” with her fiancee, maybe Yan Ruxue will finally give up.

Shu Yian: “…….”

So Su Wen was using her as a shield again, and it seems she had no scruples doing so either.

However, it was rather strange. She wondered what made Su Wen so good for her to be the female lead and to be chased by so many girls. She had tried to find any good points in Su Wen, but no matter how much she looked, so much so that she was just one step away from directly tearing out her eyeballs and sticking it onto Su Wen, she could not find a single good reason why someone would like Su Wen.

With a bad temper and a poor character, except for having a good face and being a little bit rich, what was so good about her?

Anyhow, when she dates someone in the future, she will never look for someone like Su Wen. She must find a gentle, considerate and kind older sister to spend her days with instead.

And so, for the rest of the morning, Shu Yian sat like an idiot on the sofa while she daydreamed away her boredom. When lunch break finally came, she instantly jumped up like a wild horse whose reins had been cut loose.

She was finally free! The bell that signified the lunch break was like the prairies of the Hulunbuir prefecture, allowing her to finally stretch her legs and rush headlong into the wind. (T/N: Hulunbuir prefecture is a region well known for it’s open prairies as a city of the Inner Mongolia Province in China)

Unfortunately, she couldn’t even be happy for a minute or even begin to enjoy her freedom when Su Wen dragged her by the collar to the restaurant….
