The students in the kitchen were doing a great job in preparing the meal. Especially Fang Yichang, who was skillfully holding the big wok as if he had been a professional cook for years. Contrary to this sight, Huo Cheng stood in the kitchen with just a spatula. Nevertheless, he appeared calm and cold, without catching the slightest amount of fire.

If Qiu Ziqing wasn’t standing beside him, this picturesque scene could be a world-famous painting.

Zhao Yimeng hummed in her heart. If Qiu Ziqing wasn’t helping her own classmates, what kind of tricks would she play on Huo Cheng? Couldn’t she see at all that she was being ignored!

“Huo Cheng, here is your milk.” Zhao Yimeng happily handed it over while forcing the Qiu Ziqing beside him aside.

Qiu Ziqing hadn’t gotten into trouble yet, but when Huo Cheng saw Zhao Yimeng, his face suddenly changed. “Why are you here? Where is Shen Wanying?”

Zhao Yimeng seemed to be a little dazed. “She said she was going to pick some fruits and asked me to get the milk for you.”

The fellow’s expression became even more unsightly. When he was interrupted before, he almost forgot that Shen Wanying would be injured today. “How long has she been gone?”

“Just… just left—”

Huo Cheng quickly put down the things in his hand and ran out of the kitchen, not even bothering to turn off the stove.

Fang Yichang, who caught a glimpse of the half-cooked rice, shouted at the retreating back, “Huo Cheng, don’t you care about your soup? I won’t help you look after it!”

As he ran towards the orchard, Huo Cheng took out his cell phone and called Shen Wanying.

Wang Tingting noticed Shen Wanying’s cell phone ringing and the caller was Huo Cheng. She considered for a moment, before finally picking up the call, “Hello.”

Upon hearing the voice on the other side, Huo Cheng went silent for a second before asking, “Who are you?”

Panicking at his response, she tried to calm down and answered, “This is Wang Tingting. I just went to pick up fruits with Shen Wanying.”

“Where is Shen Wanying?”

“She’s still in the orchard field. I’m taking the fruits we picked up back first. Her mobile phone was in the fruit basket.”

Huo Cheng said nothing else and hung up the phone.

Deep in the orchard, as Shen Wanying turned to have Wang Tingting catch the oranges she’d picked, she quickly realized that the other girl was missing. Puzzled, she looked around trying to spot her. In her moment of distraction, she slipped off the ladder.

She hadn’t climbed too high up and managed to react quickly, so she was able to avoid being seriously injured as she fell to the ground. Still, she ended up twisting her right foot in the process. She reflexively held the oranges that she had just picked in her arms. Thereafter, she put them into the fruit basket on the side and sat down against the tree.

Her ankle hurt a bit, but she endured it as she could still walk back. The problem now was that she didn’t know which direction to go.

She had seen the sign when she came, but now she didn’t know where it was. At this time, there were no patrols and her mobile phone was taken away by Wang Tingting…

As she pondered, her heart started to fill with doubt. Wang Tingting had asked her to go pick fruits together, but she couldn’t say for sure if that was her real intention. She didn’t want to speculate if the other girl harboured malicious intent, but considering her current situation, it was the most reasonable guess.

She and Wang Tingting had no relationship such as friendship, so she had most likely done this because of her good friend Qiu Ziqing. She (QZQ) was in the kitchen today, she (SWY) had seen her.

But, there was no point in thinking too much into it now. I need to find a way back as soon as possible. She decided as she supported herself against the tree to stand up.

Huo Cheng quickly arrived at the orchard, looking around trying to spot Shen Wanying. But all his eyes could catch were large patches of green dotted with orange. He didn’t know where she was, so he could only call out to her.

“Shen Wanying—”

When he failed to get a response even after looking around and calling her name for a while, his heart became more and more anxious.

“Shen Wanying——! Ah Wan——”

Shen Wanying raised her head slightly and looked ahead in the direction of the sound. She seemed to hear Huo Cheng calling her.

“Ah Wan——!”

This time, she was sure she didn’t hear it wrong. She yelled back in the direction of the voice, “Huo Cheng, is that you?”

The voice on the other side stopped, and she called out again, “Huo Cheng?”

Then she saw the figure of the boy emerge from the orchard, darting towards her under a patch of sunshine.

“Why are you here?” She looked at him rather surprised.

He didn’t answer and first looked at her from head to toe. “Your foot is injured?”

“Well, I twisted it a bit, but it’s not serious.”

“Let me see.” Huo Cheng helped her sit down again and inspected her ankle. It was a little swollen, but it shouldn’t have damaged her joints. Then he asked her, “Did you hurt your back?”

“Huh?” Shen Wanying was confused by the random question. She touched her lower back to check, and then replied, “I shouldn’t have.”

“It’s good if you didn’t.”

Apparently, the injuries on Shen Wanying’s back and face were both caused by falling when she was looking for a way back. This time, he had managed to find her well before the time it would happen.

He raised his head and looked up at the girl standing before him, subconsciously wiping her face gently with his hand.

Shen Wanying froze.

Huo Cheng realized that his actions were a bit abrupt. “There was a bit of dirt, so I wiped it for you.”

“Oh—” Shen Wanying responded awkwardly, “Thank you.”

Huo Cheng retracted his hand. “I’ll carry you back.”

“Ah? No need.” It would be really embarrassing to let him carry her. So, she quickly refused.

Huo Cheng simply looked at her, turned his back, and squatted down in front of her. “Get on, I’ll carry you.”
