Shen Wanying could feel that when her fingers touched him, Huo Cheng trembled gently.

Afraid of overstepping, she quickly withdrew her hand. Huo Cheng kept his eyes on her, so she asked, with feigned innocence, “What’s wrong? You don’t like the song?”

“……” He didn’t even hear what was playing in the headphones, all his senses now focused on his right ear.

Finally unable to bear his gaze, Shen Wanying moved to pack up her things and leave. She was just about to take the earphones back when Huo Cheng caught her hand.

She froze and raised her eyes to look at him.

“I’ll do it myself,” He told her.

Huo Cheng, however, was in no hurry. He held on to Shen Wanying’s hand and stared at her intently. “I told you that my ears are very sensitive.”

“Mm……” She glanced away awkwardly. “Earlier I–I accidentally touched your ear, I’m sorry.”

The corner of his mouth quirked, and with a little effort, he tugged her towards him, significantly shortening the distance between them.

Shen Wanying leaned forward and looked at Huo Cheng’s handsome face, so close to her, and her mind went blank.

“If you touch my ear again, I can’t say for sure what I’ll do.”

Blankly, she looked at him and unconsciously swallowed.

What was that supposed to mean? Did he want to make a move on her?

But from the look in his eyes at that moment, it didn’t seem that way. His gaze was so intense, she felt as if she would burn up if she looked into his eyes for a moment too long.

She was once again overwhelmed by her pounding heartbeat. Fortunately, Huo Cheng let go of her hand and took the earbud out, placing it back in her hand.

Shen Wanying sat up straight and calmed herself down internally. “Let’s go to the cinema first.”

“Alright.” He nodded and put the books on the table away in his school bag.

After she turned off the music on her phone, put away her earphones and picked up her school bag, she walked out of the book bar with Huo Cheng.

The tickets were from the Starlight Department Store, which was some distance away from where they were. The two of them calculated the time and decided to walk there so that it would be just right when they reached the cinema.

On the way, Shen Wanying didn’t talk much. Every time she met Huo Cheng’s eyes, she couldn’t help her heart beating faster.

If she had known this would happen, she would not have touched his ear just now.

When they arrived at the cinema, Huo Cheng went to pick up the tickets, while she took this time to buy a big bucket of popcorn at the concession desk.

“Okay, let’s go.” Tickets in hand, he walked back to Shen Wanying, who swallowed the popcorn in her mouth before asking him, “Do you want anything to drink?”

Huo Cheng shook his head, “No, do you?”

“I don’t want one either, I just had a drink at the book bar earlier.”

“Let’s go in then, it’s about to start.”

“Okay.”

It was a last-minute ticket purchase, and the film was a popular one, so their seats weren’t particularly good. But Shen Wanying didn’t care about that. This was the first time she and Huo Cheng had been out to see a film together.

“Want some?” When she handed the popcorn over, he grabbed a handful and murmured his thanks.

Not long after, the cinema went dark and the chatter of the audience stopped.

It was a mystery that was also a comedy, rife with amusing moments. Shen Wanying laughed non-stop, popcorn in hand. Huo Cheng watched her from the side, the corners of his mouth curling upward.

“Do you want more popcorn?” She thought he was looking at her because he wanted the popcorn, so she handed him the bucket once more. Huo Cheng grabbed another handful and went back to watching the film.

A girl in the front row went out to go to the bathroom once in the middle of the film, and when she came back, she noticed the two of them sitting in the back row.

Wang Tingting noticed Qiu Ziqing’s sullen expression when she returned from her toilet break, so she asked with some confusion, “Ziqing, what’s wrong?”

Qiu Ziqing pursed her lips in silence for a while before saying, “Shen Wanying and Huo Cheng are watching this film too.”

“Huh?” Wang Tingting blinked at her. “Where?”

“Right behind us.”

Wang Tingting was even more surprised. “They’re watching the same film as us?”

“Mmhm,” Qiu Ziqing responded with obvious displeasure.

Man needs to give the girl a chance, he’s gonna scare her to death with all that flirting hahaha. Secondly, I was so absorbed by their investigation + budding romance I completely forgot about the high school drama that surrounds them both. A little respite from the real drama, I suppose, but oh my god I’m still wondering about Xiang Chong!!!! So, I’ll see you in the next chapter. I am not ready for whatever ride is coming, hahaha.
