When Du Yuqi woke up, he found that it was almost dark. He seemed to be in a dense forest, which looked very lush and quiet, with fragrant flowers blooming everywhere, lush green grass, and a large number of trees, some of which were so huge that it would take four or five people to encircle them. Ancient trees that were thousands of years old were everywhere.
He had fainted beside a babbling stream, his mouth tasting salty and bloody, his throat so dry it felt like it was on fire. After struggling to stand up, he felt dizzy and the world seemed to spin.
Fortunately, Du Yuqi was a medical university student and a top student. He knew something was wrong and quickly sat down again, feeling much better. When he touched his face, he found that his nose, mouth, and ears were covered with dried blood scabs, which crumbled and fell off when he rubbed them.
Du Yuqi took a few deep breaths, then slowly crawled to the stream. The water was very clear, so he drank some and washed his face, feeling much more refreshed. After checking his body, he found only a red scar on his chest, nothing else unusual.
He stood up and took a few steps, then noticed some familiar items. They were several specially made laboratory tables that had appeared in this strange place, probably sucked in by the sudden black hole.
These heavy laboratory tables must have fallen from above, breaking two or three trees and rolling onto the grass. They were almost torn apart and in a terrible state. Since the weather forecast predicted rain, two umbrellas that were inside the tables had also scattered.
Seeing this, Du Yuqi felt a chill. He suddenly realized how lucky he was to still have all his limbs. He looked around and even shouted a few times, but found no trace of his friend Zhao Qiuyu, so he gave up in frustration.
At this moment, he realized he was incredibly hungry, as if he hadn't eaten for seven or eight days. Du Yuqi had a vague premonition that it might be related to the blood cells that had fused into his body. He searched the nearby laboratory tables and found a bag of Oreo cookies among the scattered chemicals and medicines, probably left by a snack-loving senior or junior.
As he crunched on the Oreos, he observed the surroundings and noticed smoke rising in the west. He immediately made a simple deduction: if there was smoke, there must be fire, and if there was fire, there must be people...
At this moment, Du Yuqi was still very angry. What he wanted most was to find someone to ask what the hell had happened! Was being a backup so sinful that it deserved divine punishment?
But no matter how much he thought about it, it was useless. He needed to find someone first, so he started walking in the direction of the smoke.
As Du Yuqi trekked through the forest, his doubts and unease grew. He had only walked four or five hundred meters when he saw dozens of plants and insects he had never seen before! Was this still Earth?
The most bizarre thing was that after seeing these strange things, which he had never seen on TV, in books, or any other information source, his mind automatically provided relevant information!
For example, the slightly purple, fresh leaves beside him emitted a faint light. Du Yuqi had never seen such a thing, but as soon as he saw it, the information appeared in his mind:
Boehmeria nivea leaves, edible, slightly bitter, with the effect of stimulating the nervous system and improving concentration.
Without thinking, Du Yuqi instinctively picked the leaf and chewed it. When the slightly bitter and fresh taste spread on his tongue, he suddenly realized what he had done...
After eating the bag of Oreos, Du Yuqi started moving forward while looking for food to fill his empty stomach. Fortunately, there seemed to be few people in this forest, and wild fruits were abundant. Du Yuqi, who seemed to have a natural familiarity, could identify these plants and fruits even though he had never been here before, so his pace naturally slowed down.
"These blueberries are great, sour and sweet. Oh, the greenish-yellow small fruits are called blueberries."
"This thing is also called wild strawberries? Damn, how can the chocolate strawberries in the market compare! Now I realize that strawberries, like wild boars and wild chickens, taste especially good with the word 'wild' in their name."
"Mountain grapes? This looks more like a purple apple than grapes. Never mind, let's eat it first. I'll eat the refreshing Rowan berries last because they make your breath fresh, like chewing gum... Damn, where do I know all this from?"
For some reason, after this thought, Du Yuqi suddenly remembered the translucent, bright red blood cells he had seen in the strange passage. He vaguely remembered that before he lost consciousness, these blood cells had collided with him and seemed to... fuse into his body?
Thinking of this, Du Yuqi couldn't help but shiver and check his body again. Apart from the red mark on his chest, he found no other wounds. Moreover, he felt an unprecedented surge of energy and agility, as if he was walking with a strong and steady pace.
The sky was getting darker, and Du Yuqi couldn't help but quicken his steps toward the direction of the smoke. After walking about a hundred meters, his field of vision suddenly opened up. He saw a gentle slope ahead, with sparse trees and shrubs and green grass, similar to a high mountain meadow or pasture. If there were snow-capped mountains in the background, it would almost feel like he was in the Alps.
