The beginning is somewhat template-like. Please be cautious if you don't like it.
My goal is to live a carefree life. However, I work for a company that is neither black nor white, but rather a rather ambiguous middle ground.
I was supposed to have found a job in Hokkaido, where I am from, but due to the company's decision, I ended up working right in the heart of Tokyo.
I did have a girlfriend, but I left her in Hokkaido, and in the end, I am currently single. ...Long-distance relationships just weren't for me.
One day, while living the same gray, monotonous days, the company celebrated its 50th anniversary and announced that we could take a 5-day vacation at our convenience as a commemoration.
Thinking it would be a good opportunity, I decided to take this vacation along with the 5 days of summer vacation that the company mandates we take. Combining this with the weekends before and after, I managed to secure a whopping 16-day vacation.
Of course, there was no such sweet deal. I had to finish the work I would miss during my vacation, so I worked until the last train every day, even worked on Saturdays, and ended up doing work at home on Sundays.
Working like a horse, I somehow managed to finish my work before the vacation.
It was the first time in my career that I completed a project two weeks before the deadline.
My hobbies are diverse. It sounds good, but the truth is that I can't get passionate about anything. Still, I've tried many things, so I think I have a certain level of knowledge. One unusual hobby is that I practiced cane fighting quite seriously.
Finally, I decided to use my 16-day vacation to travel to Europe to find a new hobby. I had always wanted to go, so this was a particularly joyful moment.
However, life doesn't always go as planned. On the first day of my overseas trip in Italy, a large bus failed to navigate a curve on a rough cobblestone road and overturned.
I was unfortunately caught under the bus on the sidewalk near the curve.
And there, my life came to an abrupt end.
...Or so I thought.
...?
Where am I?
I can't speak. Or rather, do I not have a body? It's a strange sensation to somehow understand my surroundings even without a body.
It seems I am in a completely white room.
"You're awake. For a moment, I was worried."
When I directed my consciousness toward the voice, I saw a beautiful woman standing there.
She had beautiful blue eyes and white hair. Her skin was so transparent it seemed almost divine.
No, at first glance, I understood that this person must be a god or something similar. Perhaps I was even made to understand.
And I realized that I must indeed be dead.
"I am one who observes the Earth and its galaxy among many others. You are currently a spirit, so you cannot speak, but your thoughts will reach me. Please listen to what I have to say."
I understand.
"Hehe, you don't have to use formal language."
That's kind of you. But since it's our first meeting, I'll try to be polite within my limits.
"Yes, that's fine. Let's skip the formalities. To the point: you have three choices now. One, you can go to heaven. Two, you can be reincarnated on Earth. Three, you can be reincarnated in a world I created. Which one do you choose?"
This is quite sudden, but I guess I am indeed dead.
Hmm... Before I decide, can I ask you something?
"Yes, anything?"
Do you do this for everyone who dies?
"No, not at all. It's quite rare. You might not remember, but when you were very young, around 5 years old, you saved a cat that was about to be run over by a car, right?"
I don't remember that... Oh, I vaguely remember my mother scolding me harshly. I think it was because I ran out onto the road.
"Actually, that cat was my grandchild. Back then, my grandchild was very curious and often transformed into a cat to wander the lower world. They wouldn't die if run over, but they could be deemed unfit as a god and exiled. This is my way of thanking you for saving them."
I see, so the saying 'kindness is never wasted' is true.
"Hehe, indeed. Is there anything else you want to know?"
What kind of world did you create?
"Well... It's like a fantasy world, similar to what you might find on Earth. However, you can't generally see your status, and the concept of levels is not widely known."
If it's not widely known, does that mean status exists? You said 'generally'—how can I see it?
"In the world called 'Altria,' there are 108 dungeons scattered across the land. In these dungeons, treasure chests appear, and occasionally, they contain something called a Status Orb. Using this, you can view your status. It's a kind of skill."
I see... I understand. Since I have the chance, I would like to be reincarnated in the world you created.
"...I created it, but there are monsters and nobles in that world. It's a dangerous place. Are you sure you want to go?"
Yes. I was looking for a new hobby, so this is perfect. Plus, in a new world, I might find different hobbies.
"Is that so? Then I will grant you a blessing. What kind of power do you want? Anything is fine."
No, excessive power would attract trouble. I don't need any special blessings. If I could, I'd like a healthy body. I don't like being sick.
"Is that so... You are the first to say that. I understand. I'll make the necessary adjustments, so don't worry. However, I cannot choose your reincarnation destination. I wish you good fortune."
Yes, just do your best. Thank you.
And so, I was reincarnated.
I will update this bit by bit.
I would be happy if you could rate and bookmark it.
