At this moment, Colonel Zhang heard the sound of an explosion from behind and said to the political commissar beside him, "The devils are here."

"Hmm. It sounds like the sound of an explosive," the political commissar confirmed.

"Not bad, Er Lengzi probably didn't fire a shot," Colonel Zhang said, "Otherwise, there would have been some commotion."

Before he could finish speaking, the sound of Japanese mortar shells exploding was heard. Colonel Zhang's face turned blue with anger.

"Haha, Old Zhang," the political commissar laughed.

"Someone, go and bring Er Lengzi back for me," Colonel Zhang shouted to the outside. The sound of the artillery proved that the Japanese were attacking, and it was very clear who they were attacking.

After a few soldiers went, Colonel Zhang paced back and forth in anger.

"Old Zhang, don't worry, I saw Er Lengzi plant the mines. This kid is smart; the Japanese probably can't do anything to him," the political commissar said.

"Bullshit, this is a battle involving tens of thousands of people. Individual heroism is nothing. No matter how capable, one will still die in it," Colonel Zhang said.

Meanwhile, Hu Hao slowly raised his head from the dirt after the artillery fire stopped. "Spit," Hu Hao spat out the dirt that had splashed into his mouth and looked up to observe the Japanese.

"You little devils, actually dare to bombard grandpa with mortars. Is it worth it? Just because I killed a few of you, you use mortars?" Hu Hao muttered, but his hands didn't stop. He wanted to find the lieutenant and kill him, but he was gone. Hu Hao was not willing to let it go.

"Boom and run? What does that mean! Ignoring me!"

So Hu Hao started aiming and shooting at the nearest Japanese, one shot at a time.

"Damn, why aren't you dead yet?" the Japanese lieutenant cursed. "Keep shelling."

"Boom, boom," the Japanese mortar gunners started shelling again.

"Damn, here again!" Hu Hao reluctantly crouched back into his cover.

After another dozen shells, the Japanese stopped, and Hu Hao got up to observe again.

"Where did that lieutenant go? Come out, you're not being true to your samurai spirit by running after shelling," Hu Hao continued to mutter.

Not finding the lieutenant, he continued to shoot at the Japanese.

This made the lieutenant extremely angry.

"Shell harder, and send people up after shelling," the lieutenant shouted to the people around him.

"Boom, boom," Hu Hao quickly crouched back.

"These Japanese don't play by the rules," Hu Hao said in his cover. The shelling was so intense that it buried Hu Hao. After the shelling stopped, Hu Hao slowly dug himself out of the cover and looked around.

"Damn, playing dirty," Hu Hao cursed when he saw that many Japanese were crawling towards him. He quickly started shooting, and the Japanese began to organize a counterattack. However, the range was a bit far, and the Japanese bullets whizzed past Hu Hao. Hu Hao didn't hesitate and aimed at the officers with ranks.

"Your lieutenant ran, so I'll take you as sacrifices," Hu Hao shouted.

About 300 Japanese advanced, and within 100 meters, over 20 were killed. Hu Hao wasn't afraid of them getting closer. He had already set up mines, and he was very welcoming to the Japanese.

Hu Hao continued shooting. The Japanese couldn't hit him for a while, and if they did, it would be his bad luck.

"Boom," an explosive package detonated, and a large number of Japanese fell to the ground. Those who didn't fall were probably stunned. Hu Hao wouldn't miss this opportunity and continued to shoot. The Japanese started to retreat. They had to retreat; it wasn't worth it to send so many people to die to deal with one person, and they didn't know if there were mines ahead.

Seeing the Japanese retreat, Hu Hao cursed, "Devils, keep charging, I haven't had enough yet."

The lieutenant behind fiercely cursed, "Bastard, despicable!"

"Sir, I think we shouldn't send people to fight this sharpshooter now. What we need to do is have our regimental commander send engineers over as soon as possible and send people to command our 59th Regiment. If we continue to tangle with him, we won't complete the task given by the division commander, and our regimental commander will be angry," a captain said to the lieutenant.

"Right, Mr. Dongyi, I have already sent the telegram. But now, facing the harassment of the Eighth Route Army, if we don't strike hard, it will affect the morale of our 59th Regiment. Our regimental commander hasn't officially set out and has already been shattered. If we let that Eighth Route Army continue to be arrogant, our morale will be greatly reduced," the lieutenant said.

Hu Hao ignored him and continued to shoot. As long as the Japanese were within his range, he wouldn't let them go. The Japanese also knew that the Eighth Route Army only shot at those within range, so they retreated and waited for reinforcements.

After shooting for a while, Hu Hao found that the Japanese had all retreated. If he continued to shoot, he wouldn't be accurate. He sighed, "Devils, you disappoint me. Where is your samurai spirit? Is it telling you to retreat when you can't win?"

Hu Hao crouched and stopped shooting. Shooting was a waste of bullets. He might as well observe and have a cigarette first. Hu Hao comfortably smoked, but the soldiers behind him were very anxious.

The soldiers sent by Colonel Zhang, led by Xiao Li, came to Hu Hao's side. They saw the Japanese attacking Hu Hao and didn't dare to move forward. Who would dare to move forward with bullets flying everywhere? They didn't know how they would die.

So they were anxious behind.

"Xiao Li, this Er Lengzi is too bold. Hundreds of Japanese are shooting at him, and he still dares to shoot back," a soldier behind said to Xiao Li.

"Of course, that's why he's called Er Lengzi," Xiao Li said angrily.

"Right," the soldier behind nodded in agreement.

"Xiao Li, the Japanese have stopped shooting. Shouldn't we go and bring him back? The colonel gave a strict order. No matter what, we have to bring him back. The colonel is very angry, and the consequences will be severe," the soldier behind said.

"You go! You try it. If you don't care about your life, the Japanese are all watching this direction. I bet as soon as you show up, the Japanese will either shoot or shell you. Believe it or not?" Xiao Li cursed.

"What to do then? The colonel gave a strict order," the soldier behind said.

"Forget the strict order. Just go back and tell the colonel that Er Lengzi is fighting the Japanese and can't come back. You can't get to him either," Xiao Li said.

"Can I say that?"

"Don't worry, the colonel won't do anything to you. But if Er Lengzi comes back, the colonel might break his belt," Xiao Li said.

"Right, probably," the soldier behind said.

"Alright, go back. We still need to dig more cover. If we don't dig well, Er Lengzi might throw us all into the minefield below when he gets crazy, and we won't be able to get out," Xiao Li said.
