After five minutes, Colonel Zhang finished beating Hu Hao and had just pieced together the whole story from Hu Hao’s intermittent explanations. Hu Hao sat on the edge of the bed, Colonel Zhang stood beside him, and Houzi and the other two stood behind Colonel Zhang.

"Everything he just said is true, you slept in the detention room last night," Colonel Zhang asked them.

Hu Hao, standing behind Colonel Zhang, gave Houzi and the others a look that said, "You’ll see." This made them feel uneasy.

Colonel Zhang turned around, and Hu Hao immediately put on a look of grievance and injustice.

"Enough, stop pretending. I know how many times I hit you!" Seeing Hu Hao still feigning grievance, Colonel Zhang said, "Next time, I’ll use my hands and feet. Using the belt is too tiring, it made me sweat all over."

"Brother, consider it as exercise, use the belt again!" Hu Hao quickly said when he heard that next time it would be with hands and feet.

"Alright, you three, forget it, I won’t hold it against you. Girl, come with me, the division commander and others will be here soon!" Colonel Zhang said.

"Really? Um-hum!" She picked up her things from the room and followed Colonel Zhang out. Houzi and Daxiong also wanted to follow Colonel Zhang out, but Colonel Zhang didn’t say anything, and Hu Hao’s eyes told them, "Try it and see."

As soon as Colonel Zhang left the room, Houzi and Daxiong started wailing inside. Chen Yundie stuck out her tongue playfully when she heard them.

"Are you still going to frame me? Huh?!" Hu Hao kicked Houzi, who was still lying on the ground. Daxiong was lying next to him.

"Brother, we were wrong, really wrong. We didn’t react in time. Brother, we were just about to say something when the colonel rushed in. Brother, please forgive us, don’t hit us anymore," Houzi said, lying on the ground and bowing. Hu Hao beat Houzi for a while, then moved on to Daxiong.

"Damn, I thought you were a good guy, but you’re just as sneaky!"

"Brother, I am a good guy, everyone who knows me says so," Daxiong said, bowing and covering his head.

"Bullshit, you made me get beaten by my brother this early morning. Damn, I’ll feel unlucky all day," Hu Hao said while kicking.

"Brother, it’s almost noon now," Houzi said from behind. Hu Hao turned and kicked Houzi again.

"I said it’s morning, it’s morning because I just got up!" Hu Hao said while kicking.

After two minutes, Hu Hao was tired and sat on the edge of the bed. He saw the two still lying on the ground, touching their sore limbs.

"Get up, damn it. If you dare to frame me again, I’ll break your limbs," Hu Hao said, standing up. He rubbed his stomach and said, "I’m hungry, has the kitchen sent breakfast yet?"

He went to the living room and saw a small pot of steamed buns and a small pot of porridge on a stool. He went to wash up.

When he came out, he saw Houzi and Daxiong already eating the buns. He rushed over and started beating them again.

"Are you reincarnated as hungry ghosts? I haven’t eaten yet, and you dare to eat first?" Hu Hao hit them a few times, then stopped, picked up the pot of buns and the pot of porridge, and went into the kitchen.

"Houzi, isn’t Brother wise? How many did you eat?" Houzi asked Daxiong quietly outside.

"Four, I’m half full. Brother, how about you?" Daxiong said, using his fingers to indicate.

"I ate three, also half full!" Houzi said, "Luckily Brother is wise, otherwise we wouldn’t have had breakfast. Look, he took all the food into the kitchen."

When Hu Hao finished eating and came out, he saw Houzi and Daxiong still sitting on the stools in the living room. He said, "Go inside and eat, there’s still plenty. Finish eating and wash the bowls, including mine. Then take the two pots back to the kitchen."

"Alright, thanks, Brother!" Houzi and Daxiong quickly rushed into the kitchen.

Hu Hao didn’t care about them, moved a chair outside, and sat down. It was April, a bit cool, but the sun was warm. He leaned the chair against his door and started dozing off, as he had nothing to do.

He slept for about an hour when the company commander, Xiao Li, rushed in nervously.

"Lengzi, Lengzi, you still have the nerve to sleep? Get up quickly, your brother is being interrogated by the higher-ups!" Xiao Li pushed Hu Hao hard.

"What! Who’s interrogating my brother?" Hu Hao immediately sat up.

"Quick, the colonel is already being reviewed by the political department in the room! Hurry up!" Xiao Li pulled Hu Hao and ran outside.

"What?!" Hu Hao shook off Xiao Li’s hand and ran to the regimental command post. He saw the regimental political commissar, the staff officer, the divisional political commissar, and the division commander all there.

"Father, it was Lengzi who saved me. If not for him, the Japanese would have violated me! Father, you must thank him," Chen Yundie said to the division commander.

"Right, Lengzi, thank you, Uncle," the division commander said, but Hu Hao interrupted.

"Cut the crap, where’s my brother? Where is he?" Hu Hao said impatiently.

"Lengzi, your brother is in a meeting," the regimental political commissar quickly said.

"Don’t fool me, I know what’s going on," Hu Hao said and tried to rush into the command post, shouting, "Brother, Brother! Where are you? Brother, if they dare to bully you, I’ll kill them!"

Hu Hao tried to rush in, but the political commissar and the staff officer held him back tightly. Seeing he couldn’t get in, he stepped back and pulled out his two pistols, cocking them.

"Lengzi, what are you doing! Put the guns away! Do you hear me?" the political commissar shouted. The soldiers around the division commander and the division political commissar immediately aimed their rifles at Hu Hao.

Hu Hao looked at his two pistols and then at the rifles in the hands of the guards. He quickly put his guns back into their holsters. The political commissar and the staff officer breathed a sigh of relief.

After putting away his guns, Hu Hao ran outside. He ran all the way to the regimental armory.

The soldiers at the armory saw Hu Hao coming and quickly said, "Lengzi, what are you doing here?"

"Shut up, open the armory for me, now!" Hu Hao said.

"Brother, you’re putting us in a difficult position. If we open the armory, the colonel will shoot us!" a squad leader said.

"Will you open it or not? If not, I’ll do it myself!" Hu Hao said, pulling out his pistol and shooting at the lock on the armory door several times.
