After eating the roasted chicken, Hu Hao stripped the Japanese soldier's uniform, took off the civilian clothes, and put on the soldier's uniform. He originally wanted to throw away the old clothes, but Hu Hao realized that using these clothes to enter the city was very effective, so he hid them and planned to retrieve them later.
Hu Hao arrived at the Japanese military camp, where there were not many Japanese soldiers, only about 60. Hu Hao found out that there were fewer than 80 Japanese soldiers in the city, but a larger city not far from this county had a permanent Japanese division, along with a garrison force of about 20,000, which could reach here in about half an hour by car.
Hu Hao didn't waste time. After entering, he started to deal with the isolated Japanese soldiers. In about ten minutes, he managed to eliminate about 30 of them by tricking them.
Now there were no Japanese soldiers outside the yard; they were all inside the buildings. Hu Hao scratched his head, thinking it was a problem. The Japanese soldiers were in groups inside the buildings, and if he fired a gun, it would alert the other soldiers.
"Whatever, I'll deal with them later. Let's check the warehouse first," Hu Hao thought.
Hu Hao went to the warehouse, where four people were guarding it. Hu Hao walked over and said to one of the soldiers, "Yoshi, everyone is working hard." "Come, have a cigarette," he said in Japanese.
Hu Hao took out cigarettes and distributed them. The four Japanese soldiers gathered around. Hu Hao quickly killed them while they were lighting their cigarettes. Fortunately, they didn't react in time. Hu Hao dragged their bodies to a hiding place, took the keys from one of the soldiers, and looted all the valuable items from their bodies.
"Yoshi, the Japanese are really rich," Hu Hao thought as he took a watch from one of the soldiers and put it on his right wrist. Hu Hao rolled up his sleeves and saw that he had 14 watches on both arms, nodding in satisfaction.
After opening the warehouse and going inside, Hu Hao first looked for flour. "Damn, why is there nothing here!" he exclaimed.
"Could it be in the trucks?" Hu Hao saw four large trucks parked inside the warehouse. He walked to the back of the first truck and lifted the tarp.
"Damn, so much ammunition, are you guys trying to get yourselves killed?" Hu Hao saw many boxes inside the truck, filled with guns and mortars.
Hu Hao went to the second truck, which also contained ammunition. He angrily cursed, "Damn, have the Japanese reached the stage of abstaining from food?"
He opened the third truck, which still had ammunition. "Damn, I don't need so much ammunition, I need flour."
He opened the fourth truck and finally calmed down. "Looks like it wasn't a wasted trip. I'm not buying lottery tickets, do I have to put it in the fourth truck? I was scared it would be a waste."
Hu Hao didn't waste time. He climbed onto the truck, unloaded about ten bags of flour, and moved them to the truck with ammunition. After checking that the truck had enough fuel, Hu Hao stood up and looked at the remaining three trucks, feeling troubled.
"Damn, should I leave some for you?" Hu Hao rubbed his bald head, talking to himself. His hair had been shaved off by Colonel Zhang the night he returned.
"Whatever, I'll leave some for next time," Hu Hao thought. He climbed into the driver's seat, started the truck, and drove out.
As he passed the gate, the guards saluted Hu Hao, but he ignored them.
He drove to where he had killed the first Japanese soldier, stopped the truck, and found his clothes in a corner. He threw them into the passenger seat, got back in the truck, and drove off.
After driving for a while, he saw a boy selling cigarettes with a box hanging in front of him.
Hu Hao stopped the truck.
"Hey, how much for all the cigarettes?" Hu Hao asked from the truck.
"Hey, sir, sir, all the cigarettes together are one silver dollar," the boy said.
"Will you sell the box? I'll give you two silver dollars," Hu Hao asked.
"Sure."
Hu Hao took out two silver dollars and gave them to the boy, who closed the box and handed it to Hu Hao. Hu Hao started the truck and drove off.
"Is that Japanese soldier a fool? My box is only worth one silver dollar," the boy thought, feeling the silver dollars in his hand and watching Hu Hao's truck drive out of the city. "I made a big profit today."
Hu Hao drove to the city gate, where the puppet soldiers didn't dare to stop him and quickly opened the barrier to let him through. Hu Hao drove directly to where he had hidden his gun, stopped to retrieve it, and saw the Japanese flag still on the front of the truck. He grabbed it and threw it on the ground.
"Wait a minute," if he drove directly to the village, his own people might shoot at him. Hu Hao looked around, found a piece of yellow soil, and wrote "Eighth Route Army" on the hood of the truck. He also wrote "Eighth Route Army" on both sides of the truck.
Hu Hao was very satisfied with his writing, got back in the truck, and drove off.
"Class leader, is there something wrong with that Japanese soldier? Why did he write 'Eighth Route Army' on the truck?" a soldier hiding in the nearby bushes asked, puzzled.
"Hmm, there is something wrong. Why does that Japanese soldier look so familiar?" the class leader said, puzzled.
"Yeah, he looks very familiar, but we don't know any Japanese soldiers," another soldier said.
"Class leader, should we take a shortcut back and report? The truck is heading towards our base," another soldier asked.
"Of course not. What would we report? That a Japanese soldier is driving a truck to our base? We are supposed to monitor major movements of the Japanese. One truck can't carry many soldiers, and there are still sentries at the back. Let them report," the class leader said.
When the truck reached where Hu Hao had hidden his clothes, he got out and changed into his own clothes.
At the base, Colonel Zhang was harshly scolding the soldier who had seen Hu Hao leave.
"Are you as stupid as Er Lengzi? He knows how to come back and turn around? If he knew how to turn around, he wouldn't be Er Lengzi," Colonel Zhang shouted at the soldier standing in front of him.
"Colonel, many soldiers have gone out to look for him. You don't need to worry," the political commissar said.
"Where are they looking? Before, we could find him if he didn't leave the village. Now he's gone outside the village. Who knows where he is?" Colonel Zhang said.
"Maybe Er Lengzi will come back on his own. He's not stupid anymore, right?" the political commissar said, trying to reassure him.
"Colonel, a villager is looking for you. He says he might know where Er Lengzi went," a soldier reported.
"Oh, quickly, bring him in," Colonel Zhang stood up and said.
