Hu Hao walked unsteadily, and it was almost noon. He looked up at the sun and muttered, "Why is it so hot in June in the northwest? I can't do this. When will I ever get to the county town to buy cigarettes!" He then took out the map he had taken from his brother last night and started to look at it.

"Damn, is this even a map? It's not as accurate as the 2-yuan map they sell at the train station! At least they are moral; the maps are a few years old! But this map! How many years ago was it made!" Hu Hao said. Last night, he had secretly opened his brother's box, which contained many maps. He had taken the one at the bottom, where his brother was less likely to notice. Colonel Zhang looked at the map every night when he came back.

"I can't do this. This map is useless. I still need to ask someone. If I keep walking like this, when will I get there!" Hu Hao put away the map, took a few sips of water from his water bottle, and continued down the road. After walking for another half hour, he finally saw a house and quickened his pace.

"Villager, villager!" As Hu Hao approached the house, he saw an old man cutting grass. The old man looked up and, seeing it was a Eighth Route Army soldier, put down his tools and came over. "Comrade Eighth Route Army, what can I do for you?"

"Oh, villager, I want to go to the county town, but the map is not accurate. Could you tell me if there's a shortcut? Also, villager, could you give me some water? My water bottle is almost empty!" Hu Hao said.

"Oh, come in, come in and have some water before you go. I'll fill your water bottle for you." The villager quickly opened the gate and let Hu Hao in.

"Thank you, villager!" Hu Hao entered after the villager opened the gate. The villager brought him some water, and after Hu Hao finished drinking, the villager took his water bottle to refill it. After filling it and handing it back to Hu Hao, the villager said, "Young soldier, what are you going to the county town for? I heard there are Japanese soldiers there! And with your uniform, you won't be able to get in!"

Hu Hao looked down at his clothes and realized he was still wearing the Eighth Route Army uniform. "Oh, villager, I have some business in the county town. I'll sneak in and find a place to buy some clothes! Villager, how far is the county town from here?" Hu Hao asked.

"That's still quite a distance! Here, don't go buy clothes. I have some clothes that will fit you. My two sons are both Eighth Route Army soldiers, and their regular clothes are all here. I'll go get them for you, wait a moment!" The villager left, and Hu Hao looked around the room. There was nothing valuable, just some baskets, tables, and chairs. Soon, the villager returned with a shirt and a pair of pants and handed them to Hu Hao, saying, "Try them on, see if they fit. If not, I'll find you something else!"

"Alright, thank you. I'll return them when I come back tomorrow." Hu Hao stood up, took off his clothes, and put on the villager's clothes. "Villager, they fit perfectly, thank you. I'll leave my uniform here and pick it up tomorrow!" He then put his gun and ammunition inside the new clothes.

"Alright, but young soldier, it's still dangerous to go to the county town. Be careful! Also, the Japanese are checking very strictly now. They are tightening their control. If you follow this road, it will take you 3 hours to reach a checkpoint, and another 4.5 hours to reach the county town. You need to hurry!" the villager warned.

"Okay, so it's 5 hours along this road, got it. Thank you, villager. I'll be on my way. Thank you!" Hu Hao stood up, put on his backpack, and took his water bottle, then left. He walked for another two hours, avoiding the Japanese checkpoint, and his legs were sore. It was June, and the sun was scorching.

"Damn, you're playing with me, aren't you? I finally get out, and you give me such a hot day. It was overcast yesterday, couldn't you have kept it overcast for one more day? I can't do this, I need to find a place to sit!" Hu Hao saw a small grove of trees ahead and quickly walked over, sitting down in the shade.

"I need to get a car back tomorrow, or at least a motorcycle. If not, I'll get a bicycle. This walking is killing me!" Hu Hao lay down on the ground, closed his eyes, and decided to rest for a bit. It was only 2 PM, so he had time to rest.

Just as he was about to fall asleep, he heard the sound of a car. Hu Hao quickly sat up and saw a Japanese convoy approaching from a distance.

"Damn, heaven, you really know what I want! Thanks!" He crouched down and moved closer to the road. Fortunately, the roadside was overgrown with weeds, making it easier to approach. When the Japanese convoy came closer, Hu Hao carefully observed the front and back. There were no Japanese soldiers following, and the tires were not flat, indicating the cars were empty.

When the last car passed him, Hu Hao quickly rolled onto the road, stood up, and started chasing the car. He grabbed the side of the car, climbed up, and sat down. He took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep puff, saying, "Riding in a car is so much better. I won't bother with a motorcycle or bicycle anymore. I'll get a car, preferably a small one for comfort. If not, a large truck will do!" As he thought, he fell asleep.

He didn't know how long he had been sleeping when the car suddenly stopped. Hu Hao woke up and crouched down to look outside. "Damn, a Japanese military camp. Is this the county town's camp? If not, I'm in trouble. I won't know how to get back!"

Hu Hao looked around and saw the city walls in the distance. "It's the county town. You didn't lead me wrong, or I would have made you pay tonight!" He crouched down, not daring to come out. There were many Japanese soldiers patrolling outside, so he had to wait. Fortunately, the Japanese car had stopped here, or it would have been trouble.

Hu Hao waited until it was dark. After dark, he jumped off the car and hid in the shadow of the car, looking for a lone Japanese soldier to take out and change clothes. If not, he would be shot full of holes. He waited for over two hours but saw no Japanese soldiers come this way. "Are you coming or not? There's a car here, and you don't come to patrol. If you don't come, I'll blow it up!"

He continued to recommend his book, which was now on the shelf, as he had no choice but to promote it. If you are interested, please click and take a look! [bookid=2716694, bookname=《Super University President》]
