Chapter 3

Xixi's drawings were still at the level of a child's random scribbles, but in terms of atmosphere and composition, she did show some talent!

Yang Ran's eyes lit up. After praising and encouraging the little one, he suggested, "Xixi, would you like Dad to teach you how to draw?"

In his previous life, in the assassin training camp, Yang Yi had learned music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, among other diverse skills. These were the basic skills for disguise!

After all, the Poker Killer Organization's subsequent missions were the most difficult and arduous! Without the ability to blend in with the masses at any time, Yang Yi would have been caught by the police countless times!

Although Yang Yi didn't particularly like painting and later became more obsessed with music, in his free time, he enjoyed listening to songs and watching movies, indulging in his own world in the safe house he had carefully set up. As for painting and other skills, he made no progress after leaving the training camp.

However, he could still fool Xixi!

Just talking wouldn't do, so Yang Yi started by showing Xixi a trick.

Under the amazed gaze of the little girl, Yang Yi held a black pencil and lightly sketched. With a few strokes, a girl with flowing long hair appeared on the paper.

It had a hint of the Q-version style from his previous life, and the facial features and expression of the girl resembled Xixi. She was also wearing the same lace dress, long stockings, and little leather shoes that Xixi was wearing!

Yang Yi deliberately made the girl's head larger, with big eyes that had a cartoonish feel, and her hair cascaded like a waterfall, making her look incredibly cute!

"Wow, Dad, Dad is so amazing!" Xixi was delighted, her eyes glued to the drawing, and she exclaimed in admiration with her little mouth open.

Hearing his daughter's praise, Yang Ran felt an overwhelming sense of achievement!

Even though he had been cautious and hadn't spoken much earlier for fear of being exposed, he couldn't help but ask, "Xixi, can you tell who Dad drew?"

Having been in the military, Yang Ran's voice was usually quite loud, but when facing his daughter, it was surprisingly gentle, unlike the cold and hard-hearted Leon from his previous life. He probably wouldn't believe it if he heard himself now!

"I know, I know, it's Xixi!" Xixi blushed, pointing at herself with delight, but then felt shy and giggled, hugging her father, leaving only one lively eye visible.

...

For almost the entire afternoon, Yang Ran taught Xixi how to draw sketches and helped her fill in the details of her simple drawings.

Xixi had a great time, her laughter ringing like silver bells.

She didn't realize that her father was even happier! Because the worry of being exposed never came to pass.

Perhaps Xixi could sense that her father was no longer the clumsy, awkward dad she used to know! But at her young age, she had no such suspicions. She firmly believed her eyes; her father was her father, how could he be anyone else?

In fact, the previous Yang Ran, let alone drawing, would have found it difficult to even appreciate Xixi's drawings. But Xixi didn't care why her father suddenly became so skilled!

The little girl had almost become a devoted fan of her father.

...

Happy times passed quickly, and before they knew it, the sun was setting, and the streetlights outside were glowing faintly.

Xixi was tired from playing, and with Yang Ran's coaxing, she fell into a deep sleep.

Yang Ran carefully carried Xixi to the middle of the bed, gently placing a small pillow under her head and tucking her long, smooth hair to avoid discomfort.

In early April, the chill of early spring still lingered, especially after the sun set, the air was slightly cool. Yang Ran rummaged through the closet for a while before finding a not-too-thick towel blanket to cover Xixi.

"Alright, now the question is, what should we have for dinner?" Yang Ran gently closed the bedroom door and rubbed his chin, thinking.

His place was about twenty square meters, but it was well-equipped with a bedroom, a small living room, and a kitchen and bathroom. Of course, each space was very narrow, especially the kitchen!

The kitchen had a stove and a sink, and the remaining space could barely fit him, let alone anyone else!

Even moving around was a hassle...

Life in his previous life was better, with money and a spacious house... But Yang Ran wasn't picky. He rummaged through the fridge and rice bin left by his predecessor, pondering what to prepare for Xixi's dinner!

When it came to cooking, the previous Yang Ran was a novice, only able to cook plain rice. The side dishes were either pickled vegetables, olive vegetables, or a plate of blanched greens with soy sauce.

On one hand, it was due to his low income and financial constraints. With a child, Yang Ran saved all his money to buy whatever Xixi wanted when he was with her—indeed, his love for his daughter surpassed everything else in the world.

On the other hand, the previous Yang Ran simply lacked the aptitude for cooking.

But the current Yang Ran was different. In his previous life, he lived alone and enjoyed a comfortable lifestyle. He never neglected himself when it came to food, and whether it was Chinese or Western cuisine, he could cook well!

Of course, in his previous life, he could only enjoy his own cooking alone. Now, he could finally cook for his beloved little one, and he wanted to do it right!

However, Yang Ran soon scratched his head.

"Even a skilled cook can't cook without ingredients!" He shook his head with a bitter smile.

The fridge only had a few eggs, some sausages, and the cabbage that the previous Yang Ran had eaten for years...

The rice bin was still full, but with such a limited selection of dishes, even with Yang Ran's skills, the meal would taste bland...

Yang Ran could make do, but he couldn't serve his daughter such "pig food"!

However, it was too late to go buy groceries. Yang Ran's place was in a remote area, and it would take at least half an hour to walk to the nearest market. He couldn't leave Xixi alone at home.

So, what should they have for dinner?

Should they go out to eat? But the hygiene of the nearby street stalls in the urban village was questionable!

In the end, Yang Ran's gaze fell on the box of instant noodles in the corner, which still had half a box left.

This was the spiritual food for the previous Yang Ran after his night shifts. Sometimes, when he was tired and hungry, he didn't have the patience to wait for a meal to cook, so he would eat a bowl of hot instant noodles and go to sleep.

"Instant noodles are the food of loneliness, the best friend of the sleepless." Looking at the half box of instant noodles, memories of them surfaced in Yang Ran's mind, and he couldn't help but sigh, feeling a bit melancholic.

Yang Ran shook his head to clear his thoughts. He had already decided what to have for dinner.
