Chapter 10

The group of sci-fi writers, who had been holding back for so long, finally seized the opportunity to start cursing Lin Han non-stop. They were on the verge of fame and fortune, but Lin Han’s actions had knocked them back to square one.
"The Beyond the Solar System" suffered huge losses, and the investor, Candy Entertainment, went bankrupt. This served as a warning to other film and television production companies. Many sci-fi novels that were in negotiation immediately fell into a deadlock. One person had ruined the entire market, with a tremendous impact.
With this precedent, investors, being businessmen, were unwilling to take such a huge risk by producing sci-fi films. As a result, over a year had passed, and the Chinese sci-fi film market had become extremely bleak. Even the famous authors couldn’t sell their copyrights.
Seeing other novelists making huge profits, with fantasy, urban, historical, and realistic novels being adapted into movies, TV series, games, and anime, only the sci-fi genre remained stagnant. It’s no wonder these people were so unforgiving, directly lashing out in the group.
If they were in real life, they might not have been so blunt, but on the internet, where no one could see each other, they were much bolder.
"You, the disaster star, actually came to write sci-fi novels. Mosquito, our group rules are very clear, right? Where was his novel published? As a manager, you should have followed the standards."
"Exactly, if just anyone can join our group, what’s the point? The group standards can’t be abandoned. Lin Han, where is your novel?"
"Mosquito probably couldn’t bring himself to refuse him, so he invited him into the group. Your reputation is already so bad, can you please not come and ruin us? Go write fantasy or urban fantasy; they’ll definitely welcome you."
"Right, Director Lin, why did you come to the novel circle to stir up trouble? Just work hard in the film industry, make a few more bad movies, and give us something to curse at."
"Old Jiang, you’re rubbing salt in the wound. Clearly, no one is hiring him to direct movies, so he’s fallen on hard times and wants to join us, thinking writing novels will help him make a comeback. Proper sci-fi novels aren’t something just anyone can write. You should study more."
There were too many people mocking and ridiculing him. Lin Han didn’t respond. It was true that the original owner had caused them to lose their copyrights, so he let them vent for a while. He set his QQ to busy and comfortably browsed Weibo.
To start anew, he had to endure such strange looks and criticism. Lin Han knew this was just a small appetizer. If the media found out he was writing novels, a new wave of public opinion would likely follow.
After logging in with the remembered account and password, he noticed a series of notifications in the top right corner of the page: 3.1 million new followers, 800,000 new comments, 1.1 million retweets, 2,800 likes, and over 20,000 private messages.
This was his first time logging into Weibo in over a year, so he had accumulated a large number of unprocessed messages.
Of course, he didn’t have any real fans; these were all haters. Over a million haters were still continuously posting screenshots of Lin Han’s interviews as memes, which surprised him a bit.
The content of the private messages was mostly unbearable insults, various threats, and even involved his family and friends. Despite the high number of retweets and comments, the likes were few. The latest Weibo post was a movie trailer from January last year.
If someone with a fragile heart were to be cursed by the entire internet and tagged with "get out of the entertainment industry," they might not be able to handle it. But with his new soul, Lin Han viewed these things as if they were about someone else, with no sense of personal involvement, so he didn’t care.
After clearing all the notifications and setting his account to not accept private messages from non-followers, Lin Han decided to start managing his Weibo again. At least he wasn’t starting from zero; he still had a million followers, even if they were all haters.
His follow list contained only a few people: Li Wenyuan, the original author of "The Beyond the Solar System," the male lead Zhao Xuan, the female lead Liu Mengyan, and a few minor characters.
Among these people, only Li Wenyuan followed him back; the others probably wanted to block him.
"Being hated by so many people is also a kind of skill."
Lin Han muttered to himself. He didn’t know what to post but didn’t want to read the messages in the QQ group. Writers are human too; endless cursing had no artistic value.
At that moment, when he refreshed Weibo, he noticed a recommendation for a new post by a stranger. A blogger named Hunter Firearm posted several photos and wrote: "Went into the mountains at night and found a new species, a glowing insect. I’ve never seen anything like it. Can anyone tell me what it is? @Aquarium Biologist @CAS Institute of Zoology and Botany."
In the photos, a large insect resembling a bamboo stick appeared on the grass. When the flash was turned off, its body emitted a fluorescent light, which was quite amazing.
The world is vast and full of wonders. Many people were watching, but no one could answer. The two bloggers he tagged had no response.
Lin Han immediately matched the insect with the encyclopedia in his mind and quickly wrote his reply and forwarded it: "Female glowworm. The name is split as 'female glow / firefly,' meaning 'only the female glows.' The male doesn’t glow but has very large eyes, waiting to see where the female’s light is at night and then rushing over to mate."
As a humanities student, he was originally weak in biology, but to understand the terms and concepts in sci-fi novels, Lin Han had studied various aspects of knowledge, reading through different encyclopedias.
In the past, he definitely wouldn’t have remembered the name of this insect, but after his soul transmigrated, his memory had greatly improved. He clearly recalled where he had seen the information, so replying was effortless, showcasing his extensive knowledge.
After forwarding the Weibo post, Lin Han’s followers immediately became excited. "You actually dared to come back to life? Watch me delete your account and create a new one!"
The loyal haters didn’t care about the content of the Weibo post; they immediately started cursing Lin Han, unleashing the pent-up anger from over a year, as if they wanted to turn into a thousand-armed Guanyin to type and curse.
