Words Written Before the List - Author's Note
It is finally time to revise and supplement the Heaven, Earth, and Human lists again. Each time, I will repeatedly doubt and debate my choices. What books should have what status, and what criteria should be used for selection, all require a great deal of determination and courage to decide.
Originally, from the perspective of an entertainment book site, a market-based selection should be very simple. If your VIP subscriptions are fewer, and your clicks are less, your book will naturally be inferior. However, I suddenly thought that novels, whether for entertainment, criticism, or documentation, should ultimately bear some responsibility of literature itself. Therefore, those purely entertaining works without any depth, those that sacrifice their soul to attract attention, and those that only pursue commercial success, although still very excellent, may not necessarily be great.
1. The selection criteria for the Heaven, Earth, and Human lists are somewhat subjective, but I still hope that the novels I select, especially those in the Heaven list, can be both excellent and great.
2. To ensure fairness and reduce friction between authors and readers, I will make the evaluation criteria public as follows:
- Heaven List: Any work that enters the Heaven list should be uncontroversial. They may have pioneered a certain writing trend, or the work itself has undeniable strength. However, the most important point is that works in the Heaven list always give us emotion and thought. They reflect the soul of the work and the author's worldview. Although they are entertainment novels, we can still think about something after enjoying them.
- Earth List: A book that can be accepted by people is a good book. A highly anticipated work with countless supporters will have no problem entering the Earth list. However, the only regret is that, although the excellence of the work is undeniable, it always leaves a sense of something missing after reading.
- Human List: Some books must be mentioned. Some books cannot be ignored. Since they exist, they have value and reason. As novels with both obvious strengths and weaknesses, it is natural for them to enter the Human list. People are not perfect, and so are novels with both strengths and weaknesses!
- Controversial List: As the name suggests, the internet always has controversial topics.
3. The ranking in this list is not in order. The list is divided into four levels, but there is no hierarchy within each level.
4. The Qidian book list is a summary of online works, so it is not limited to works in the Qidian library. Any work that meets the criteria for inclusion can be listed.
5. Everyone is welcome to participate in the discussion. Please visit the Qidian Interactive Community - Book Review Forum to share your thoughts freely.
Book List Since December 15, 2004
Heaven List
- "Lost Continent" - Reader
Known as the most Western fantasy novel in online works. However, in my view, the characteristic of Western fantasy is to highlight the group over the individual, where no one is the main character, yet everyone is. The personal impression in "Lost Continent" is too strong, so it cannot be considered pure Western fantasy. However, this work has profound insights into human nature, which is why I included it in the Heaven list.
- "Sin" - Raystorm
The best online science fiction novel I have read. What is the meaning of life's evolution? Is what we call sin truly sinful? Where will humanity go? Perhaps this is a question that will never have an answer.
- "Tales of the Wind and the Moon" - Rosen
If it were just a story, "Tales of the Wind and the Moon" would be just a good story. Its length is both a strength and a weakness. However, what moves me most are the characters in "Tales of the Wind and the Moon." In our type of novels, characters are often stereotypical, a simple amplification of a part of human nature. But in "Tales of the Wind and the Moon," you will find that these are truly complex, living people!
- "Journey to the West" - Jin Hezai
Some books always need special recommendation. Some books always need to be read repeatedly. Emotions and insights, how real they are, like a dream, like an illusion!
- "Heroic Ambition" - Sun Xiao
To be honest, I have read this book, but I do not like it because it makes me cry. However, the list must be evaluated, and it must be fair. The inclusion of "Heroic Ambition" is also a matter of necessity.
- "Search for the Gods" - Shu Xiaoye
I find it strange that our authors seem to know more about foreign history and mythological systems than our own. However, I always believe that only by adhering to our own culture can we achieve true success. Fortunately, at least Shu Xiaoye has done so.
- "Homeless" - Xueye Binghe
I always thought that online authors rarely have the deep understanding and description of reality that traditional authors do, but after reading this book, I need to deeply reflect and adjust my views!
Earth List
- "Zichuan" - Laozhu
Some works are decided by their opening.
- "Fish and Dragon Transformation" - Wei Yue
This is the best book I have read. It covers the political, romantic, and military fields, each with its own flavor. The author's narrative and writing style are simple and unadorned, without any intention to please the masses, but every word is precious and captivating. The most valuable aspect of this book is that the protagonist's character and development remain consistent throughout, with no breaks in the narrative. This is a comment from a reader. I would add that from a bandit to a high official, the myth of a dragon rising from the mud is born.
- "Dreaming of the Magic Kingdom" - X
The thought-provoking elements in X's works always fascinate me. If only for this, X's works could be listed in the Heaven list. However, what confuses me is that when reading X's works, you can say they are stories, essays, or miscellaneous writings, but they do not feel like novels. Why? Why?
- "Thief of Magic" - Xuehongshan
The story progresses gradually, with intricate and tightly woven plots that make it hard to put down. However, the long opening seems to have the suspicion of being a ploy to get paid.
- "Inferno Chronicles" - Tiangou Yueyan
A romantic core wrapped in a martial arts and fantasy shell. It makes you realize that there are martial arts and fantasy stories that can attract most female readers! However, the tragic ending of a love triangle is truly regrettable.
- "Graceful Lady's Journey" - Zou Zou
I usually do not favor books with female protagonists, but this is an exception. Perhaps the modern female spirit embedded in the text moved me.
- "Blue Bat Bar" - Kongque Gaofei
Japanese manga-style works often suffer from forced humor and lack of depth, but Kongque handles it well.
- "Tales of the Demon God" - Shouqiang
A very satisfying work. The first part is very engaging, and the second part seems to convey something, but unfortunately, I have not yet understood the author's point.
- "Seven Samurai" - Awan
Another interpretation of seven heroes, very exciting.
- "Fenglu风云" - Feiling
This book gives a very relaxed feeling but is not without deep thoughts about life. The light writing style and story leave a sense of anticipation and attachment in the reader's heart...
- "Lingbing Douzhe皆阵列在前" - Wu Yong
I believe this is truly Chinese fantasy.
- "Dao Yuan Ru Xian" - Guiyu
The plot of "Dao Yuan" is not as engaging as "Piaomiao," but the writing styles are unique. However, "Dao Yuan" is superior to "Piaomiao" in that it systematically and standardly sets up the relationships between Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism. This systematic setting is rarely done by domestic authors.
- "Xueye" - Zhou Wentao
Some profound elements in the story make me feel a chill. From the perspective of non-humans, humans seem to be the least deserving of existence on Earth. However, survival is such that every species has the right to survive, and to survive, any means will be used.
- "Piaomiao Zhi Lu" - Xiao Qian
The reasons for "Dao Yuan" also apply to "Piaomiao." As I mentioned in the evaluation criteria, some books are simply irreplaceable.
- "Luan Shi Tong Lu Qian Zhuan" - You Shisan
Heaven and Earth are the furnace, creation is the craftsman, Yin and Yang are the charcoal, and all things are the copper. Although still in the opening stage, the book vividly portrays the seven emotions and six desires, the five flavors of life, and the myriad lives of the world, all of which will be fully revealed in You Shisan's pen.
- "Xiedu" - Yan Yu Jiangnan
Rog seems to be a cunning and smooth noble who will do anything for money, and also seems to be a philosopher with a framed glasses, indulging in romantic and philosophical musings. The flaws and virtues of human nature are slightly exaggerated in Rog's not-so-smooth life of "sleeping until natural awakening and counting money until the hands cramp." The greatest success and regret of this book may be that it is "too deeply marked by the world."
- "Tianpeng Zongheng" - Liulang de Hama
The protagonist starts at a level where danger is rare, but to prevent it from being too unrealistic, the environment is set so that he cannot be too arrogant. The smooth plot leads the reader through a fascinating setting rich in Chinese mythological culture, a vast and varied world, a plethora of magical techniques, and thrilling battles, as well as a life of chivalry and revenge.
- "Huoyi Yu Bingqin de Guaiqi Tan" - Jialou Luo Huoyi
"Guaiqi Tan" is not perfect—some parts are overly ornate, with a profusion of words and slightly awkward long sentences, and a background that is too Japanese. However, these minor flaws do not affect the overall impression of the work. "Guaiqi Tan" is like a rhinoceros horn burning quietly in a corner, revealing a strong color and rich emotion.
- "Xunzhao Renlei" - Raystorm
A rare science fiction masterpiece, not only "fantastic" in a strange and intricate way but also with a truly "scientific" element.
- "Shenglong Dao" - Xuehong
Once the hottest novel online, it has its reasons. If we talk about the "satisfaction" factor, it is hard to find another book that can match this one. Moreover, if we consider the unique characteristics of online writing, Xuehong's works perfectly interpret these features.
- "The Last Bullet for Me" - Sishi Gu Renlai
The passionate songs of men in the military are no less stirring than those of swordsmen in the江湖. It turns out that words can be used in such a way, with the crudest language and the most everyday expressions, to convey the most sincere emotions—just as they can make us shed tears after reading.
- "Qingxi Jishi" - Hongzhu Xia
A classic of political martial arts. The portrayal of political struggles rivals that of Eryue He, and the martial arts descriptions are also grand and noble. The writing is refined, and the plot is varied, repeatedly shocking me. The emotional portrayal surpasses Eryue He, and I shed tears reading the "Jun Cheng" chapter. What a great book!
- "Knight's Storm" - Lu Shuanghe
Originally titled "Jun Yu Chen," the style is similar to "Arslan Senki," a cold weapon war novel with an epic style.
Human List
- "Zhen Sui" - Molide Zhen Sui
The best Three Kingdoms work. "Tian Bian" is on par with it, but I personally believe that "Zhen Sui" is more realistic, with brutal and authentic battle scenes, unlike "Tian Bian."
- "He's Disciple" - Leng Zuan
The revised "He's Disciple" is quite successful. The charm of the two female leads remains intact, and the male lead's charm has increased. The three different identities all have female admirers, making it a very engaging and well-written story. The language is humorous and the plot is varied, but the male lead's personality is like a muddled mess, never clearly defined. Strongly recommended!
- "Network Knight" - Wang Long
This is a novel about the internet. The most exciting part is the Sino-American hacker war, a smokeless battle that is very tragic and stirring, making you wish you could be part of it.
- "Urban Strange Tales" - Kerui
A great collection of short stories, each a complete story but interconnected. Want to know how monsters and humans coexist? Read it!
- "Shen Jian Yao Xiang" - Luxifa
Imagining a distant time and space, the divine sword cuts through time but cannot sever the bonds of love. Reading Luxifa's work not only gives the pleasure of becoming a god but also the worries of being human. This is very rare.
- "Huanmo Zhanji" - Unknow
The first person in the online fantasy arena.
- "Zhi Zun Wu Ming" - Yan Xi Zao Lou
A traditional martial arts masterpiece with innovation. The unconventional protagonist, unique values, light and humorous style, and distinctive story, all blend together to form a traditional martial arts novel.
- "Chang Dao Wu Hen" - Kuangsha
A very distinctive martial arts work. Although there are many flaws in the book, the descriptions of character psychology, the harshness of the world, and especially the unique charisma of the protagonist, make it a standout in the martial arts genre.
- "Xingzhi Haiyang" - Charlesp
The narrative style is light, and the society in the book corresponds to reality, exuding a youthful vibe that lingers.
- "You Yangguang de Shijie" - Shamu
A novel with a unique setting where people live in different areas based on their income, with the lower levels representing the lower class. The protagonist wants to climb from the bottom to the top, and he must do so through a game, growing and becoming stronger in the process. Shamu says "sunlight" means love, but when the protagonist joins the top class that created the phenomenon of "children being exiled to the bottom due to poverty," does he still remember the initial sunlight?
- "Zhuanzhe" - Bajian
Very different from similar novels, this book has a bourgeois flair. After returning to the past, the protagonist does not focus on using modern technology to dominate the world but instead tries to integrate into the era and improve his life.
- "Fengqi Ziluoxia" - Jingke Shou
"Life is entrusted to someone unworthy, gold and jade shattered, the birth of a crystal. Those who pursue the Dao know that life and death are full of fear, but we can only walk slowly." And the kind parents, the cute dog, the smile of the early neighbor girl, the vows of eternal love, all fade away in the void, disappearing. The wind dances with the sand, for thousands of years. Why do we still walk alone, silent in the end.
- "Jian Xian - Jian Zhi Xiu Zhen Zhe" - Pingmin Baixing
The weakness of "Jian Xian" is that it can maintain a captivating plot but not its length. The author's descriptions of small scenes, such as battles, are gripping, but the overall plot transitions are somewhat stiff. In the Heavenly Realm section, some hidden threads are picked up, making the story more coherent, and the writing has improved. Overall, it is a novel that gets better and better.
- "The Seventh Skull" - Phoenix
Dark, terrifying, and heavy, these are the characteristics of the book. After the oppression, it can also provoke our thoughts.
- "The Second Creation Holy War" - X
A tragic royal family, a pioneering but divided demon race, and a relatively weak but tirelessly fighting human race, all strive to win a war that gathers the wisdom and efforts of generations of gods and demons through the eyes of a protagonist who is a fallen angel, demon, and human. Although the "understanding and integration" in the ending seems a bit too easy, the author's thoughts and writing skills are touching.
- "Dreaming Dynasty" - Qiufeng Qing
A young man from the modern era, retaining his memories, is reborn in the Tang Dynasty, experiencing a story of helplessness and sorrow but also of passionate blood and reform. It is a novel worth looking forward to.
- "Four Walls" - Gemenr
The four walls are the walls of those inside and those outside. It does not depict a normal life but describes the lives of helpless, abandoned beasts in society, where there is no dignity, personality, ideals, or will. This is a strict realist masterpiece, like dust in the air, often ignored but existing regardless of our will.
- "Gun, Blood Rose, Necromancer" - Necroman
First-class setting, first-and-a-half-class plot, still second-class writing... Thrilling magical battles, an invincible protagonist, a novel world setting, and a unique master-apprentice relationship... No matter what kind of reader, they will likely find something they enjoy. (Quoted from Longkong Tomshi's review)
- "Ming" - Jiutu
Modern people returning to the past, this book is neither the first nor the last, but whether in terms of surface-level entertainment or deeper meaning, it stands out as one of the best, able to make you laugh and think.
- "New Creation Legend" - X
Who would have thought that a story originally intended to be an epic hero tale would be written in a way that is both a legend, a history, a love story, a comedy, an anime, a game, and a bit of genuine black humor... This is the story of the unknown legends of famous heroes in the New Creation Era. The writing may seem strange, but it is not a deliberate distortion of history, as the true face of history is often stranger than fantasy.
