Chapter 4

I switched my class to "Archer" in the window.
Since I just started the game, I can still change my class freely.
"Whoa... this is..."
Just by looking at the stats, I understood why it was unpopular.
The stat distribution is just too mediocre.
It's clear when compared to the Mage's stats.
◆Status
Name: Kyuji
Class: Mage
Lv: 1/20
HP: 20/20
MP: 80/80
Attack: 3 Defense: 3
Magic Attack: 22 Magic Defense: 16
Speed: 6 Miracle: 0
Skills: None
The description "a mage version of a warrior" fits well.
They excel in magic attacks, are weak to physical attacks in terms of HP, but their high magic defense allows them to withstand magic attacks to some extent.
It's a very straightforward set of stats.
The unique status "Miracle" randomly amplifies the power and effects of magic.
It can also reduce MP consumption from skills to zero.
While skills that rely on probability aren't highly trusted, their effects are powerful.
In contrast, here are the "Archer" stats.
◆Status
Name: Kyuji
Class: Archer
Lv: 1/20
HP: 50/50
MP: 50/50
Attack: 15 Defense: 8
Magic Attack: 10 Magic Defense: 6
Speed: 11 Range: 0
Skills: None
Physically, it's a degraded version of a warrior.
Magically, it's a degraded version of a mage.
The only stat that stands out, speed, isn't that exceptional.
To begin with, the game's battles are not turn-based but fully action-based.
The benefits of increased speed include "faster movement" and "lighter body."
It increases the number of attacks and makes it easier to dodge, but it ultimately depends on the player's skill.
In other words... it's almost meaningless to me.
The last hope is... the unique status "Range."
I read its description as if in prayer.
"Range extends by the value × 1 meter... that's it?"
This is the only status where the relationship between the value and the effect is clearly defined!
The others are vague about the specific formulas and the extent of the effects.
Well, let's put that aside.
What does this mean in the end?
Is it good? Is it bad?
In this game, you can increase your stats by consuming "Enhancement Points" obtained from leveling up.
You get 5 points per level.
So, if you max out a stat, you can increase your range by 5 meters per level.
That means 50 meters at level 10...
Moreover, this is an additional value to the weapon's inherent range.
If combined with a long-range weapon, it would be possible to attack from hundreds of meters away.
If that's possible, wouldn't it be possible to one-sidedly defeat monsters?
There would be no need to run out of breath.
I could stand firmly in place and focus solely on attacking.
VRMMO maps are vast.
The enemy wouldn't know where the attack is coming from until they were defeated.
Additionally, dropped items are automatically drawn to the player who defeated the enemy, so there's no chance of someone else taking them.
Even if you defeat an enemy from a distance, you can still collect the items.
"Did I... discover the strongest tactic...?"
If I max out my range, my attacks will rely on weapons and skills.
I will definitely be at a disadvantage in firepower compared to other players.
However, that's not a problem.
I will attack one-sidedly.
I will keep attacking until they are defeated.
Even if there are enemies so tough that my attacks don't penetrate, I'm not worried.
I used to work at a game company.
I know that RPGs always have skills that ignore defense!
I don't know if they exist in this game, but MMOs are updated for years.
They will inevitably become inflated, and such skills will eventually be implemented.
I'm surprisingly optimistic.
Most importantly, I want to verify if this insight is correct.
I had gotten into the habit of checking strategy sites whenever I had questions in games.
Maybe I had forgotten the joy of exploration.
Now, I'm excited like a child.
"I will... max out my range!"
With that decided, my main class will be "Archer."
I'll change my equipment accordingly.
◆Equipment
Head: —
Right Hand: Beginner's Bow
Left Hand: (Beginner's Bow)
Arms: —
Body: Beginner's Shirt
Legs: Beginner's Pants
Feet: Beginner's Shoes
Accessories: —, —, —
Archers can also equip "guns," "shurikens," and "boomerangs," but the "bow" has the longest range.
So, I'll go with the bow.
That said, I've never held a bow in my life.
I'll practice a bit in the park.
There are practice targets set up here.
I nocked an arrow and drew the string.
Twang... Thud! Thud!
Wow? It hit the bullseye!
Is there some kind of correction applied?
Or is it because "bow" is in my name, and I have a fated connection with bows?
Let's try it again.
Twang... Thud! Thud!
Indeed, it hit the bullseye as intended.
This could be useful in actual combat.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
The sound of hitting the target feels good.
The quiver on my back supplies an infinite number of arrows.
I don't need to worry about resupplying or the number of arrows left.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
It feels so natural.
Maybe it's fate.
It's time to try it in actual combat.
I thought about forming a party, but since there's no penalty for solo play, I want to try solo hunting.
Most importantly, I want to play the game freely and casually.
Well, it's time for my first battle with the bow.
