Chapter 2

Zhao Shuo felt a pang in his heart, lowered his head, and silently ate his meal. In that moment, he clearly saw the glimmer of tears in Chu Xiu’s eyes.

For some reason, Zhao Shuo had no memory of his father, but he didn’t dwell on it. After all, many of the memories he had regained were lost, so it wasn’t strange that he couldn’t remember.

"Mother, where is Eldest Brother?"

Pushing his bowl aside, Zhao Shuo looked at Chu Xiu, who was eating slowly and gracefully.

Chu Xiu smiled slightly and said, "Your eldest brother has gone to the seaside. He’s fishing to earn money, otherwise how would you and Xiao Luan be able to undergo the star map enlightenment?"

Zhao Luan pouted and said, "Mother, the merchants in the city all use ordinary inheritance star maps for enlightenment. This way, their cultivation speed is much slower than those who use human-grade inheritance star maps, let alone earth-grade, heaven-grade, or the legendary ancient inheritance star maps."

Hearing Zhao Luan’s words, Chu Xiu smiled bitterly and said, "Our Luan has high aspirations, but the best age for star map enlightenment is between ten and sixteen years old. After sixteen, the body’s acupoints will gradually age and become congested, making it increasingly difficult to open them. Your talents aren’t good enough to be accepted by those sects. I don’t want you to undergo mass enlightenment, but I don’t have the ability..."

As she spoke, tears rolled down Chu Xiu’s eyes. Zhao Shuo’s heart trembled, and he quickly said, "Mother, don’t blame yourself. It’s fine to undergo ordinary star map enlightenment like Eldest Brother. As long as we work hard, there’s still hope to become strong. Besides, if it’s meant to be, it will be; if not, don’t force it. Let everything go with the flow!"

Seeing this, Zhao Luan hurriedly said, "Mother, don’t be sad. I was just talking. Second Brother is right; whatever is destined will happen!"

After much effort, they managed to calm Chu Xiu down. Zhao Shuo and Zhao Luan helped clear the table and were urged by Chu Xiu to leave the house.

Zhao Luan’s face showed a hint of guilt as she said, "Second Brother, it’s all my fault. If it weren’t for me, Mother wouldn’t have blamed herself so much."

Zhao Shuo patted Zhao Luan’s head and smiled, "Silly girl, don’t say that. Even I often dream of obtaining earth-grade or heaven-grade inheritance star maps for enlightenment. But we’re not from ancient noble families or sects, so we don’t have that destiny."

Hearing this, Zhao Luan stuck out her tongue and said brightly, "So Second Brother also daydreams a lot, huh?"

Zhao Shuo just smiled faintly, but his heart was not at ease. Although his memories were incomplete and he didn’t have a clear understanding of this world, he could still imagine the importance of the inheritance star maps for someone with aspirations in cultivation.

In Zhao Shuo’s view, the size of the spirit acupoints opened by the inheritance star maps also had different levels. Even if one had extraordinary talent, if the spirit acupoints opened were extremely poor, it would be like a genius cultivating with a low-level secret manual; their achievements wouldn’t be high.

The inheritance star maps here were like something that could change one’s innate talent, and could be said to be even more precious than those so-called secret manuals. Only by obtaining the inheritance star maps and opening the spirit acupoints could one cultivate and gain immense power, capable of stirring the seas, riding the clouds, grasping the moon, and achieving immortality.

After vaguely understanding these things, Zhao Shuo’s heart couldn’t help but race. He couldn’t help but imagine becoming an eternal existence one day, especially the thought that becoming strong would definitely help him find a way back.

"Qing Chan, my Qing Chan, even for you, I will find a way to become a powerful existence, just to smell your scent, see your smile, and hear your nagging, even if it’s just that..."

Suddenly, Zhao Shuo felt someone push him, snapping him out of his thoughts. Returning to reality, he couldn’t help but smile bitterly. It seemed he wasn’t without desires; otherwise, why would he dream of obtaining powerful star maps for enlightenment?

"Second Brother, what were you mumbling about? What’s Qing Chan?"

Zhao Shuo smiled awkwardly and said, "Nothing."

Zhao Luan didn’t ask further and her eyes lit up, "We’re here!"

Zhao Shuo looked up and saw an ancient courtyard in front of him. Many young people of their age were entering various small courtyards. Zhao Shuo understood that this was the school.

Relying on his memory, Zhao Shuo entered the school and sat in his seat. Soon, the school was full. An old man floated in, and as he passed by Zhao Shuo, Zhao Shuo couldn’t help but feel a surge of energy. The old man moved lightly, like a ghost, walking on air without touching the ground.

This was incredible skill. Although he knew that people here could become incredibly powerful through cultivation, it always felt unreal until he saw the old man walk on air right in front of him. It gave Zhao Shuo a soul-stirring shock, making him deeply realize how magical this place was.

"According to ancient legends, the ancient world was created by the gods of the ancient times. The Origin Continent is a blessed land favored by heaven. The continent is vast and boundless, and the stars are endless, fitting the theory of a round sky and a square earth..."

Hearing this, Zhao Shuo couldn’t help but laugh. The theory of a round sky and a square earth—having a master’s degree in astronomy, if he didn’t know whether this theory was right or wrong, he would have wasted all those years of study.

He shook his head slightly and looked at his classmates with pity. Although the people here could become incredibly powerful through cultivation, they still didn’t know that the earth was round, just like the people in ancient times on Earth.

The old man was interrupted by Zhao Shuo’s laughter and his wise gaze fell on him. "Zhao Shuo, why did you laugh without reason? Did I say something wrong?"

Chen Tiangui, who had a grudge against Zhao Shuo, sneered, "Master, Zhao Shuo laughed without reason, which is very disrespectful. He should be expelled from the school to maintain discipline."

Hearing this, Zhao Shuo couldn’t help but frown. The grudge between him and Chen Tiangui was from the past Zhao Shuo, and he didn’t care much about it. But now, Chen Tiangui was so aggressive, even wanting the master to expel him, which was truly malicious, even though he didn’t plan to continue his studies.

Taking a deep breath, Zhao Shuo looked at the master and said, "Master, I did not laugh without reason or show disrespect."

The master nodded slightly and said, "If so, tell me why you laughed."

Zhao Shuo said seriously, "Master, don’t you know that the theory of a round sky and a square earth is a great fallacy? Although the earth seems flat, it is actually a sphere..."

Zhao Shuo explained earnestly, as if he were a wise man leading everyone out of confusion, but the listeners’ faces showed strange expressions. Chen Tiangui looked at Zhao Shuo as if he were a fool, then burst into laughter, slapping the table in front of him. "Is Zhao Shuo’s head filled with water? How can he say such nonsense? Who doesn’t know that the Origin Continent is vast and boundless, formed from the remains of countless ancient Dao masters? Perhaps the theory of a round sky and a square earth is wrong on other planets, but on the Origin Continent, it is the absolute truth."

At this, Zhao Shuo felt his face burning. Heaven, this place truly defied common sense. He blamed himself for not having this knowledge, otherwise, he wouldn’t have made such a fool of himself.

Such common knowledge, he thought, should be known by everyone. His mistake was like someone in a classroom on Earth saying the earth was flat in front of the teacher and students.
