Chapter 60

5 min read1,256 words

Ten minutes before the exam, all the students in the same examination room as Jiang Ping arrived. The two invigilators began to check the identities of the candidates one by one, and the atmosphere in the classroom became tense.

Jiang Ping sat diagonally behind Zhou Xiang, with four candidates between them. Looking at Zhou Xiang's straight posture, Jiang Ping couldn't help but sneer inwardly: "Enjoy this exam, I guarantee it will be unforgettable for you!"

Jiang Ping didn't think what he was doing was excessive; it was only Zhou Xiang's own fault for being too aggressive. This guy had even bribed the four bullies to make the thugs take off Li Qian's clothes at the school gate, and he needed to be given a painful lesson.

After verifying the identities of all the candidates, the invigilators began to distribute the exam papers. Of course, all the papers were placed face down, and the candidates were not allowed to touch them until the bell signaling the start of the exam rang.

After a few agonizing minutes, the bell finally rang outside. All the candidates, including Jiang Ping, quickly turned over their papers and began the first college entrance exam.

Jiang Ping first scanned the entire exam paper from beginning to end and found that he could do most of the questions, which made him breathe a sigh of relief. He didn't waste any time and immediately started with the first question.

The examination room was quiet, with only the light "rustling" sound of the candidates writing and the deliberately slowed steps of the invigilators. Each student was answering questions seriously, striving to get into their ideal schools. For the candidates, this exam was crucial for their future, so no one dared to be careless.

If there was anyone who was the most relaxed, it was Jiang Ping. For him, getting good grades was just to make his parents happy. Of course, it would be best to do well, but if he failed, it wouldn't be a big deal. With the memories and experience from his previous life, Jiang Ping had plenty of ways to ensure a good life for himself and his family, and he didn't need to hang on the college entrance exam.

While answering the questions, Jiang Ping occasionally looked at his watch, secretly calculating the time. He wasn't worried about whether he could finish the exam in time, but was waiting for a big event to happen.

Forty-eight minutes after the exam started, the previously quiet examination room suddenly echoed with a clear "beep" sound. Jiang Ping glanced at the time again; it had been exactly fifty-nine minutes since he called the paging service, which made a smile appear at the corner of his mouth: the paging service was still reliable.

At the same time, the two invigilators were furious. Someone had brought a pager into the examination room and hadn't even set it to vibrate mode! This was not only a serious violation of examination rules but also a serious provocation to the invigilators!

Meanwhile, the candidates in the examination room became restless, looking around to find the student who had brought the pager. The invigilators' angry gazes swept through the classroom, and finally, along with many candidates, they focused on Zhou Xiang.

Zhou Xiang was also startled by the pager sound and, like the other students, looked around. However, he soon realized that everyone's gaze was on him. This made Zhou Xiang's heart skip a beat, and he quickly whispered, "It's not me..."

"Please stand up, this student!" The invigilator didn't care about Zhou Xiang's thoughts and said sternly, "Please go to the front of the classroom and don't look at other students' papers!"

Zhou Xiang was stunned by the scene and numbly walked to the front of the classroom, not knowing what to say. As soon as Zhou Xiang left his seat, another invigilator carefully examined the desk and chair he had used and eventually found a pager stuck to the bottom of the chair with tape.

Seeing the invigilator actually find the pager under Zhou Xiang's chair, many candidates couldn't help but exclaim, and the previously quiet examination room became somewhat noisy.

"Maintain silence!" The other invigilator immediately reminded the other candidates, "Focus on your exam, and don't get involved in things that don't concern you!"

The invigilator's words reminded the other candidates, and many immediately lowered their heads to continue their exams. The third-year students were adults and knew the importance of the college entrance exam compared to the commotion.

Seeing the invigilator find the pager under his seat, Zhou Xiang's face turned pale. He couldn't believe it was real and had the illusion that he was dreaming.

However, the reality was harsh. The invigilator showed the message on the pager to Zhou Xiang and said coldly, "How do you explain this?"

"I don't know!" Zhou Xiang, in a panic, couldn't face this reality and, after a while, shouted, "Someone is framing me, it must be!"

Zhou Xiang's explanation, of course, didn't convince the invigilators. One of them sneered, "Who would frame you? The examination room was checked beforehand, and the doors were sealed. How could someone frame you?"

Zhou Xiang couldn't answer the invigilator's question and just anxiously defended himself, "I am really being framed!"

Perhaps to prove his innocence, Zhou Xiang took everything out of his pockets as he spoke: "If I really wanted to cheat, I would have put the pager in my pocket, why would I stick it under the chair? Look, in my pocket..."

As he said this, Zhou Xiang suddenly stopped because he had just discovered a stack of small-print papers in his pocket. Zhou Xiang immediately saw the content on the first piece of paper, which was a classical Chinese text from the third-year Chinese textbook.

This sudden change left Zhou Xiang speechless, and after a while, he said awkwardly, "This... this is also someone framing me!"

However, at this point, no one would believe Zhou Xiang. One of the invigilators had already called the proctor. They whispered a few words, and the proctor, with a cold face, said to Zhou Xiang, "Pack up your things and come with me!"

At this moment, Zhou Xiang knew that no matter what he said, it wouldn't help. He looked miserable as he packed his things and followed the proctor out of the classroom.

After Zhou Xiang was taken away, the invigilator reminded the remaining candidates, "Don't let what just happened affect you. Focus on your exam and try to perform at your best."

Jiang Ping didn't know if the others were affected, but he was sure that what had just happened had no negative impact on him. On the contrary, after seeing Zhou Xiang being taken away by the proctor, Jiang Ping felt much better, his thoughts were clear, and he answered questions faster than before.

Jiang Ping smoothly completed all the questions and wrote an essay that even he found very satisfying. He carefully checked it twice and submitted his paper when the bell signaling the end of the exam rang.

Jiang Ping deliberately stayed until the end before leaving the classroom. By the time he reached the school gate, the news of a cheating incident at the Second High School had already spread.
