Chapter 63

Jiang Ping was taken aback by the situation. [He already knew that the red color represented a bloody disaster, and the pink almost filled Zhang Jun's entire forehead, indicating that something was about to happen soon. Although Jiang Ping had lived two lives, he was still very concerned about this good friend and of course did not want anything to happen to Zhang Jun, which was why he felt so nervous.]
However, Jiang Ping had seen many things in his life, and after the initial shock, he quickly calmed down. He immediately realized that the color he saw was not the deep red he had seen in the foreheads of Zhao Wanqing and her daughter, but a lighter pink. This gave Jiang Ping a glimmer of hope, thinking that Zhang Jun might not encounter a bloody disaster but rather some other fate.
As these thoughts raced through Jiang Ping's mind, his expression became somewhat strange. Zhang Jun noticed his friend's unusual behavior and couldn't help but ask curiously, "Why do you have such a strange expression? What are you thinking about?"
"Actually... there's something I've never told you," Jiang Ping said, feigning a serious tone. "When I was in junior high, I met an old man with a white beard who taught me the art of physiognomy. Today, I saw that your forehead is dark and your eyes are bright, which clearly indicates that something is about to happen to you!"
Zhang Jun dismissed Jiang Ping's words with a sneer, "Come on, an old man with a white beard? I think you've been reading too many martial arts novels!"
"You don't believe me!" Jiang Ping said indignantly, "Fine, from now on, I'll follow you to show you how accurate my physiognomy skills are!"
The reason Jiang Ping said this was not only to find out what the pink color represented but also because he was worried about Zhang Jun's safety. He was afraid that his friend might encounter something unexpected, and having himself by Zhang Jun's side would give him some peace of mind.
Zhang Jun, of course, had no idea about Jiang Ping's good intentions and just laughed, "Alright, then you can be my shadow. I want to see how accurate your so-called physiognomy is!"
"Wait and see!" Jiang Ping didn't waste any more words; as long as Zhang Jun was willing to let him follow, that was fine.
Although the classroom was filled with a sense of farewell, as the saying goes, "There's no feast that doesn't end," and eventually, the students had to go home.
At first, a few boys left, then more and more students began to leave the classroom, and soon everyone was on their way home. Jiang Ping was determined to see what would happen to Zhang Jun and naturally followed him closely. Coincidentally or intentionally, as Jiang Ping and Zhang Jun left, Li Qian and her desk mate, Yu Menghua, also walked out of the classroom.
The four teenagers almost simultaneously walked out of the school gate. Not far from the gate, they heard Yu Menghua call out in a sweet voice, "Zhang Jun, wait a moment!"
Zhang Jun never expected Yu Menghua to call him on the street and nervously said to Jiang Ping, "She's calling me! What do you think she wants?"
In fact, Jiang Ping had long noticed that Zhang Jun and Yu Menghua had a mutual attraction, but neither of them had the courage to break the ice. Seeing his friend's nervousness, Jiang Ping couldn't help but laugh, "If you want to know what she wants, why don't you just ask her directly?!"
At that moment, Zhang Jun lost all his usual quick-wittedness and stammered, "I... I'm a bit nervous!"
"Look at you, you're such a wimp!" Jiang Ping couldn't help but tease Zhang Jun, "A girl has the courage to call you on the street, and you don't even have the courage to talk to her? That's too pathetic!"
"Hey, I'm not a wimp!" Provoked by Jiang Ping, Zhang Jun's temper flared, and he strode over to Yu Menghua.
Li Qian, who had been with Yu Menghua, naturally moved to Jiang Ping's side, giving the two of them space to talk. Jiang Ping smiled at Li Qian, and the two stood side by side, watching Zhang Jun and Yu Menghua from a distance.
Yu Menghua and Zhang Jun were speaking in low voices, so Jiang Ping couldn't hear what they were saying. He only saw Zhang Jun's face fill with surprise, then break into a wide, happy smile. Yu Menghua, on the other hand, looked shy and even gave Zhang Jun a flirtatious glance.
"These two are up to something!" Jiang Ping immediately sensed that something was amiss and quickly asked Li Qian, "Do you know what Yu Menghua said to Zhang Jun?"
Li Qian seemed a bit embarrassed and hesitated before shyly saying, "Xiao Meng feels that since we've graduated, if she doesn't clear things up with Zhang Jun now, she might never have the chance again. She's confessing to him!"
Although Li Qian's words were somewhat vague, Jiang Ping understood her meaning. It turned out that Yu Menghua was confessing her feelings to Zhang Jun, and it seemed to be going well, which explained their affectionate expressions.
This also resolved another question in Jiang Ping's mind: what the pink color represented. From Zhang Jun's experience, it was clear that pink represented a romantic opportunity. It made sense, as the most common color of peach blossoms is pink.
Since he had figured out Zhang Jun's fortune, Jiang Ping no longer needed to follow him closely. He smiled at Li Qian and said, "Those two are in the middle of something, and they probably don't want us to be a third wheel. Let's leave them alone, and I'll take you home!"
"Third... wheel? You're so crude!" Li Qian gave Jiang Ping a playful glare but quickly lowered her head and whispered, "Let's go, then."
Although the girl was being very reserved, Jiang Ping could tell that she genuinely wanted to be alone with him. So, without further ado, he pushed his bicycle and walked slowly with Li Qian toward her home.
Jiang Ping could have easily ridden the bicycle to take Li Qian home, which would have been much faster. However, neither of them wanted to do that; they walked slowly, enjoying the time they had together.
Li Qian seemed to have something on her mind and didn't say much during the walk. It wasn't until they were almost at her home that she softly asked Jiang Ping, "Did you really put Nanjing University as your first choice?"
"Yes," Jiang Ping nodded and then asked Li Qian, "Your first choice must be Fudan University, right?"
"Um!" The girl softly responded and then mustered the courage to look up at Jiang Ping, "If we both get into our first choices, then... we'll be far apart!"
Seeing the girl's worried expression, Jiang Ping felt a warm feeling in his heart. Although he, with the soul of an older man, couldn't be sure how far they could go together in the future, he didn't want to say anything that would hurt her feelings at that moment.
So, Jiang Ping smiled at Li Qian, gently put his arm around her shoulders, and softly said, "Don't worry about that. Suzhou and Shanghai aren't that far apart. I'll come to Fudan to see you!"
