Gurgling...
Standing at the hospital entrance, Wang Cheng was about to call a car to go home. He planned to report to the temple the next day, as he only had one more week of work left. He didn’t want to miss the final period and make his summer job incomplete, especially since he still had some temple scriptures to finish reading.
However, the little girl, Wang Yuanyuan, was holding her stomach, and it was making gurgling sounds. Her face turned slightly awkward, feeling her brother’s gaze on her. She lowered her head and said, "I, I haven’t eaten yet. When I heard you were injured, I came to the hospital. Now I’m hungry."
Wang Cheng sighed deeply, reached out, and pulled Wang Yuanyuan’s head under his arm, smiling. "Alright, it’s my fault you didn’t eat. Let’s go, I’ll take you to KFC today. Don’t you always want to eat a hamburger?"
Wang Yuanyuan nodded vigorously, her face beaming with joy. She wrapped her arms around her brother’s arm. In her memory, it had been a long time since she had been this close to her brother. She smiled, "Yes, I want to eat KFC."
At the end of the pedestrian street opposite the hospital was the main KFC store in Jiangzhou. Wang Cheng led Wang Yuanyuan across the road. The little girl was jumping happily. No child dislikes KFC, and Wang Yuanyuan was no exception. She had heard her classmates talk about how delicious KFC was and was very tempted, but her brother always told her not to eat those junk foods.
So, this was the first time in years that the two siblings were going to KFC.
Wang Cheng suddenly realized that he had been too strict with his sister. Some things, she could understand on her own, without being forced. Since she wanted to eat KFC, he would let her try it, and then she would know the difference.
Those fast foods were incomparable to the recipes he prepared himself.
After regaining consciousness from his coma, Wang Cheng felt that something was different about himself. First, his vision had become very sharp, and he could see things clearly from a great distance.
He could even see the bugs on the wall over a hundred meters away.
It took him a while to adapt to this new vision, where everything looked different in color. Additionally, his breathing was very smooth, and the flow of energy in his body was unobstructed, something that had never happened before.
"Brother... look, it’s Sister Zhang Xuan."
Wang Yuanyuan tugged at Wang Cheng’s arm, pointing to a girl in white on the street, and she quickly hid her smile when she saw Wang Cheng’s expression.
Zhang Xuan was Wang Cheng’s old classmate, having been in the same class since elementary school. She started to show her queen-like demeanor in junior high and became the class monitor. After learning about Wang Cheng’s family situation when they were young, Zhang Xuan often cared for Wang Cheng’s life and encouraged his studies.
However, Wang Cheng’s mind was not on his studies, so his grades were always at the bottom before the high school entrance exam. Zhang Xuan did a lot for Wang Cheng, such as copying notes, tutoring, and speaking well of him to the teacher. Wang Cheng always treated her efforts coldly, throwing the notes she gave him at home and not having time for tutoring because he had to work.
Later, Wang Cheng performed exceptionally well in the high school entrance exam, becoming the top student in the city. Zhang Xuan even called him to celebrate and wanted to treat him to a meal, but Wang Cheng unexpectedly refused. At that time, Zhang Xuan was also among the top ten in the city, so they might be in the same class at the first high school.
They were indeed in the same class, the best class in the school, and Zhang Xuan was still the class monitor. However, Wang Cheng only stayed for one semester before his poor grades forced him to move to a parallel class.
The competition in the top class of the first high school was intense, with the principle of the capable rising and the weak falling. Every semester, the class was reorganized based on grades, and the bottom few students would usually lose their positions, being overtaken and eliminated by the top students from the parallel classes.
Seeing that Zhang Xuan hadn’t noticed him, Wang Cheng quickly pulled Wang Yuanyuan to take a detour. Wang Yuanyuan immediately understood what her brother was doing and closed her mouth, and the two siblings quietly walked to the other side.
But as Qin Shi Huang said, what is meant to come, you cannot avoid.
Zhang Xuan turned her head and saw the two siblings. Wang Cheng’s figure was too familiar to her, even though she didn’t understand why his head was wrapped in bandages. But it was definitely him, along with his sister, Wang Yuanyuan.
"Hey, Wang Cheng."
On the street, Zhang Xuan, mindful of her ladylike image, didn’t want to shout loudly, but Wang Cheng clearly ignored her and walked to the other side.
Zhang Xuan couldn’t stand it anymore. She put aside her ladylike image, took a few steps, and shouted, "Wang Cheng, stop right there."
Wang Cheng, who had been trying to pretend he didn’t see her, knew he couldn’t avoid her. He turned around and saw Zhang Xuan’s face, which was somewhat angry, and immediately said, "Oh? Zhang Xuan, what a coincidence."
"Yes, quite a coincidence."
Zhang Xuan suppressed her anger. For some reason, whenever she faced Wang Cheng, she felt uncomfortable. When they were young, she also loved to play and was called a tomboy. But seeing Wang Cheng’s calm and always reading, she felt she couldn’t let this quiet boy get ahead of her. So, in third grade, Zhang Xuan worked hard and became the top student in the grade, was selected as a model student, and became a class officer...
It was an inspiring story. Standing on the podium, addressing many teachers and students, she would surely receive a lot of criticism. Teachers and parents would say, "What is this little girl thinking? Paying attention to the opposite sex at such a young age."
But for Zhang Xuan, it was also a sad story.
When she was young, she thought Wang Cheng was the ideal boy, loving to read, quiet, and not noisy. However, she found out that his grades were terrible, always among the bottom ten in the class.
A sense of disappointment grew, and then Zhang Xuan wanted to know more about Wang Cheng. She learned about his family situation and thought he was being suppressed at home. She wanted to help him, but unexpectedly, this top student, class monitor, and model student, who was the top student in the grade, was rejected by him.
She felt he was ungrateful, not appreciating her kindness, and even compared him to a wolf with a dog’s heart...
From then on, Zhang Xuan felt uncomfortable whenever she saw Wang Cheng.
This feeling was very strange.
Wang Cheng, though mature, was still young and didn’t understand why this top student, who was beautiful and capable, looked at him with disapproval. So, he always avoided her.
"Wang Cheng, there’s only one year left until the college entrance exam. How are you preparing?"
Zhang Xuan asked directly.
Since Wang Cheng moved to the parallel class, they almost never saw each other. Zhang Xuan would occasionally pass by Wang Cheng’s class, either intentionally or unintentionally, and glance inside to see if he was there, but most of the time, he wasn’t.
After high school, the teachers’ management of students was both strict and lenient. For students with good grades and potential, the teachers were very strict, as they were the hope of the school. Good results would prove the quality of the teachers and the school, and they would receive bonuses.
For the poor students who were inconsistent, the teachers let them be, not wasting time on them as long as they didn’t cause trouble.
After Wang Cheng’s grades dropped to the bottom in the parallel class, the teachers and the school almost gave up on him. He often skipped classes, and no one cared. When the class officers reported to the teachers, they just nodded.
In the last month of the previous semester, Wang Cheng didn’t go to class at all, going directly to Cangding Temple and staying for three months. The teacher only called to ask and didn’t say anything more. He didn’t even take the final exam.
"I’ve bought all the stationery. I’ll just go to the exam venue for the college entrance exam. Everything is ready."
Wang Cheng said confidently to Zhang Xuan.
Hearing this, Zhang Xuan felt a bit hurt. She looked at Wang Cheng seriously and said, "Wang Cheng, I know you’re smart. Don’t give up on yourself. If you study hard now, you can still get into a good university."
Hearing her sincere words, Wang Cheng was somewhat moved. He smiled and said, "I understand. Thanks for your concern, Class Monitor. My sister is hungry, so we’re going to eat."
Wang Yuanyuan gently touched her stomach, indeed feeling a bit hungry.
Zhang Xuan looked at Wang Yuanyuan, who she knew. She patted Wang Yuanyuan’s head and said, "Alright, I’m going to eat too. Let’s go together. What are you planning to eat?"
Wang Yuanyuan

Wang Cheng, feeling helpless, could only bring this old classmate along.
“对了,王程,你头上怎么了?刚才你们是从医院出来的?”
It must be said that Zhang Xuan’s mind was also quite broad, only now asking about this, which she hadn’t focused on earlier.
Wang Cheng nodded and said, "Yes, I just got out of the hospital. I fell and hit my head, just a bit of blood, nothing serious."
Zhang Xuan nodded in relief, "That’s good."
Entering KFC, it seemed to be crowded at any time. Wang Cheng couldn’t understand why people loved this stuff. Apart from the slightly better taste, it had no other redeeming qualities, or perhaps its speed was an advantage.
"Go order yourselves, I’ll wait here."
Wang Cheng gave his sister 200 yuan and sat in a corner.
Zhang Xuan rolled her eyes at Wang Cheng, "Boring." Many boys would love to treat her to a meal, but now she was being ignored. Well, Wang Cheng had always been like this, and she was used to it.
Wang Yuanyuan, being obedient, took the money and skipped to the counter, and Zhang Xuan immediately followed.
Seeing that both had left, Wang Cheng placed his left hand on his right wrist, feeling a very steady and strong pulse, a feeling of thickness he had never experienced before.
A flash of insight in his eyes, Wang Cheng suppressed his excitement. He had learned to control his emotions from a young age. He placed his right hand on his left wrist again and found the same steady, strong, and vibrant pulse.
"How did it change?"
Wang Cheng’s face was calm, but his heart was in turmoil.
No one knew his body better than he did.
Because, when he was two years old, he was diagnosed with a congenital heart disease inherited from his mother. His body had always been weak. When his mother died, the doctor said Wang Cheng wouldn’t survive, and he wouldn’t live past twenty. His father had even considered abandoning him, letting him fend for himself, since he wouldn’t survive anyway.
In the end, his father didn’t go through with it and let Wang Cheng grow up on his own, but he hardly ever cared for or asked about his son.
