Chapter 5

"This is my nest. It's quite large, isn't it?"

"Yeah... Do you really need such a big nest?"

"Indeed. A first-rate one is particular about their nest."

Rain landed at Tiarra's nest, which was carved out of the mountain. As befitting a dragon princess's nest, its size was truly impressive.

Rain had dealt with Tiarra many times, but being invited to her nest was a first. This was something that wouldn't happen unless there was a significant level of trust, so Rain felt a bit of joy.

He was probably the first human to enter a dragon princess's nest.

"Alright, let's hear your story. Why were you there?"

"…I was exiled by the king as a traitor. That's why I was supposed to be abandoned there."

"Traitor? Did you do something like that?"

"No, I didn't. I think they misunderstood, thinking I was leaking information about the human world because I interact with various races as a merchant."

"Hmm," Tiarra nodded. It wasn't the usual expression she showed. Rain could tell she was listening to him seriously.

"Did you resist?"

"Of course I did. But no one would listen."

He recalled the king's face. Although it had calmed down a bit, the resentment would not fade anytime soon.

"I'm getting irritated."

"Me too. This is the first time I've felt so unjustly treated."

"Ah—Does that mean Rain has no place to return to?"

"Pretty much… that's the case."

Tiarra calmly organized the situation Rain was in. Then, she summed up Rain's problem in one sentence. Rain no longer had a home. No, more than that, he had no place in the human world.

Even if he returned to the human world, Rain would be treated at the lowest level. There was even a possibility he might be killed. It was inevitable that he could not return to the human world.

Then, the question was where he would live. As he was pondering this, Tiarra offered a saving word.

"Then, Rain. Why don't you stay in my nest for a while?"

"Wh-What!? I can't impose on you like that…"

"What are you talking about? I've been helped by you many times. Without you, I wouldn't have this good life."

Tiarra lightly patted Rain's back. What she wanted to convey was her gratitude to Rain.

If it weren't for Rain, she wouldn't have this life, even if it wasn't exactly poor. The fur of the monsters Tiarra hunted, which would be useless to most, was turned into clothes and luxury items by Rain. Rain's connections with various races were indispensable to Tiarra.

"Stop arguing and just nod. Got it?"

"Y-Yeah."

"That's good—Oh!"

Right—Tiarra turned as if she had just remembered something. She then pointed her hand in a certain direction.

"Is something wrong?"

"Inferno Ball"

"Whoa!?"

What Tiarra released was a powerful magic spell enveloped in intense flames. It was incredibly powerful. If that spell hit, it would definitely not be a minor issue.

"W-What's going on! And, where did you cast that spell…"

"Don't worry, it's just a vent. By the way, I cast it towards the human world."

"Why the human world…?"

"I wanted to give that king a taste of his own medicine. It's also a declaration of war."

Tiarra looked at Rain with a grin.

…This was probably her way of being kind. Rain didn't know how to react, but he decided to say thank you.
