Chapter 70

Uncle Nine, who had revealed a bit of his true skills with his words about the Dragonfly Touching Water burial site, did so intentionally to gain the trust of his employer, Ren Fa. However, Wencai’s question made him feel extremely embarrassed. He glared at Wencai and coldly snorted, "You and your laws, stop talking so much!"
Beside them, Jiang Chen and Qiu Sheng couldn’t help but chuckle at the dejected Wencai. This guy had been scolded by Uncle Nine just three days ago for talking too much, and now he was repeating the same mistake, truly not learning from his mistakes.
"Uncle Nine, we’ve already paid our respects. Can we start digging now?" At this moment, a few strong young men walked over and respectfully asked Uncle Nine.
Uncle Nine nodded, signaling them to start, while he walked to the side and watched them sweat as they dismantled the grave, along with Ren Fa, Ren Tingting, and others.
Ren Fa’s nephew, Ah Wei, had a secret crush on Ren Tingting. Seeing Jiang Chen standing beside Ren Tingting, he felt a surge of displeasure and quietly moved a few steps to try to push Jiang Chen away. But Jiang Chen wasn’t so easy to move. When Ah Wei tried to push him, he found himself hitting a wall of iron, his half-body going numb and his face contorting in pain.
Wencai, who also had designs on Ren Tingting, had been watching the scene closely. Seeing Ah Wei’s failure, he felt a secret satisfaction. At this moment, he heard Qiu Sheng ask Uncle Nine with a smile, "Master, what exactly is a legal burial?"
Uncle Nine walked over to Ren Fa, pacing as he slowly replied, "A legal burial means burying the body upright. Am I right?"
"Right!" Ren Fa responded with a mix of respect and a smile, "The feng shui master once said, 'If the ancestors are buried upright, the descendants will surely be excellent!'"
Uncle Nine, however, asked with a strange look, "Is it effective?"
"Well..." Ren Fa’s face turned awkward, and he hesitated, "In the past twenty years, our Ren family’s business has been getting worse and worse. I don’t know why!"
"I think this feng shui master has a grudge against your family," Uncle Nine said with a determined look, "Did the old man have any conflicts with him before he died?"
With Uncle Nine’s words, Ren Fa knew he couldn’t hide the truth. He said with a hint of sarcasm, "Initially, this burial site belonged to the feng shui master. My father knew it was a good site and bought it for a high price..."
"Was it just a bribe, or was there any coercion?" Uncle Nine interrupted Ren Fa, staring at him intently.
Ren Fa, feeling uncomfortable under Uncle Nine’s intense gaze, couldn’t find the words to defend himself and could only laugh awkwardly.
"I think there was definitely coercion!" Uncle Nine coldly snorted, turning to point at the grave, "Otherwise, he wouldn’t have harmed you and made you cover the Dragonfly Touching Water site with concrete."
"What should we do then?!" Ren Fa’s face changed dramatically, realizing that the decline of his family’s business over the years was due to feng shui issues.
"It should be covered with snow, that’s what Dragonfly Touching Water means. The coffin head shouldn’t touch the water," Uncle Nine, a practitioner of Daoism, emphasized the importance of following natural laws and clear distinctions between right and wrong. His tone became harsher after learning that the Ren family had taken someone else’s burial site, "At least the feng shui master had some conscience, allowing you to exhume and relocate the coffin after twenty years, harming you for half a lifetime instead of a whole lifetime, one generation instead of eighteen generations!"
Uncle Nine’s words left Ren Fa feeling ashamed. Although he hated the feng shui master, he knew that the family had been in the wrong first and couldn’t blame the feng shui master for his retaliation.
"Look!" At this moment, one of the young men digging the grave shouted, drawing the attention of Uncle Nine and Ren Fa. Jiang Chen and the others also hurried over.
They saw that the coffin, as Uncle Nine had said, was indeed buried upright. A few strong young men then used a simple hoist to lift the coffin out of the ground and gently placed it on the empty space beside it.
"Loosen the ropes, remove the nails," Uncle Nine said in a commanding tone, "Everyone, today is the day Ren Gong Weiyong sees the light of day again. Those who are 36, 22, 35, 48 years old, and those born in the Year of the Rooster or the Year of the Ox, please turn away."
Some people immediately turned away, respecting the dead, a tradition that persisted regardless of the era.
After a moment, Uncle Nine continued, "Everyone, tidy your clothes, and open the coffin."
"Yes, Uncle Nine." The young men followed the order and began to open the coffin. At this moment, something unexpected happened. The birds in the forest were startled by something terrifying and flew away, and the sound of crows cawing loudly could be heard.
Jiang Chen instinctively frowned and turned to see Uncle Nine also frowning in thought. He quickly approached and whispered, "Senior Brother, something doesn’t feel right."
"You’re right," Uncle Nine replied, "When the coffin is opened, birds are startled and crows caw, it’s a bad omen."
The young men worked quickly, and by the time Uncle Nine and Jiang Chen finished talking, the coffin of Old Master Ren was already open. A strong smell of decay spread from the coffin. Once the smell dissipated, the body of Old Master Ren, who had been buried for twenty years, was revealed, completely uncorrupted.
The Ren family father and daughter cried and bowed, with Ren Fa shouting, "Father, I have disturbed you, I am truly unfilial." However, despite his loud cries, there were no tears on his face, as the sorrow had long faded with time.
After a show of mourning, Ren Fa stood up, looking spirited, and asked Uncle Nine, "Uncle Nine, can this burial site still be used?"
Uncle Nine stared at the body in the coffin for a long time before coming to his senses and replied, "The Dragonfly Touching Water site, once touched, will not be touched again in the same spot. This site is now useless."
"What should we do then?" Ren Fa’s face showed panic, his eyes fixed on Uncle Nine with urgency.
Uncle Nine firmly replied, "I suggest we cremate it on the spot!"
"Cremate? No way!" Ren Fa immediately objected, "My father was most afraid of fire. I can’t do that."
Jiang Chen laughed coldly, "Whether he’s truly filial or just protecting his own interests, his insistence actually benefits me. If Old Master Ren had been cremated before turning into a zombie, how would I complete my main mission of eliminating the zombie?"
Uncle Nine knew his suggestion was abrupt but insisted, "Mr. Ren, the situation is unusual. Not cremating it could lead to trouble."
But Ren Fa’s determination was no less than Uncle Nine’s, "Anything but cremation. Uncle Nine, please find another solution."
"Ah!" Uncle Nine sighed, shaking his head, "Alright, we’ll temporarily store Old Master Ren’s body in our mortuary tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll find another burial site for him to rest in peace."
"Good!" Before Uncle Nine finished speaking, Ren Fa and his daughter responded, and Ah Wei couldn’t help but shout, "Close the coffin and carry it back to the mortuary!"
Seeing everyone busy and leaving, Uncle Nine frowned and instructed Jiang Chen and his two disciples, "Junior Brother, you and Qiu Sheng, Wencai, set up a plum blossom incense array at the burial site. Remember to come back and tell me after you’re done." He also reminded them, "Remember, light incense at each grave!"
