Chapter 20

5 min read1,287 words

Under the shadow of the Dark Moon Star, the city of Original Sin appeared particularly hazy and peaceful.

However, in a certain street, a young ghost was cornered by five burly ghost spirits. This young ghost was none other than Li Hao.

"Li Hao, right?" The leading ghost spirit had a fierce face, "You’ve got some guts, daring to come and纠缠 my young miss again! It seems the lesson I gave you last time wasn’t deep enough!"

In the Ghost Realm, there was also a stark disparity between the rich and the poor, and the strong often bullied the weak.

In the city of Original Sin, poor ghosts could only sleep on the streets, wandering until their yin life was exhausted; while wealthy ghosts could buy property and hire servants in the outer city; and the true upper class of the Ghost Realm could live in the inner city, leading a life vastly different from the ordinary ghosts in the outer city.

The ones who cornered Li Hao were servants of the "Zhou Mansion."

The Zhou family was a prominent noble clan in the area where Li Hao lived; the Zhou Mansion covered several acres and was grand and magnificent, with over a hundred servants. Zhou Xue, the young miss of the Zhou family, was well-known as a "beautiful ghost" far and wide.

Fate is the most unpredictable thing. A "beautiful ghost" like Zhou Xue would not be considered unusual even if she married into the inner city’s nobility; yet, Zhou Xue and Li Hao met and fell in love.

Li Hao was just a very unremarkable poor ghost in the outer city, and because he died young in the human world, he still had the appearance of a child in the Ghost Realm. Many ghosts couldn’t understand why a young lady like Zhou Xue would end up with a poor child like Li Hao.

And Zhou Lei, the head of the Zhou Mansion, understood it the least. In terms of seniority, Zhou Lei should be considered Zhou Xue’s great-uncle. It was he who had built a career in the Ghost Realm, ensuring that any Zhou family member who died and came to the Ghost Realm would be quickly found and brought to the Zhou Mansion to recognize their ancestors.

Zhou Xue was the most beautiful woman the Zhou family had ever produced. Zhou Lei spent all his time thinking about how to marry her into the inner city’s nobility to elevate the Zhou family even further. What he didn’t expect was that Zhou Xue would fall in love with a poor little ghost like Li Hao by chance; this made Zhou Lei very angry, and he even specially sent servants to warn Li Hao.

Li Hao, surrounded, looked angrily at the five henchmen, neither speaking nor trying to escape. What was there to say to these henchmen! As for running away? Li Hao knew that with his strength, running would only bring humiliation; it was better to face everything bravely and calmly.

"Huh, not saying a word? Very principled, huh?" The leading henchman mocked, "Don’t think I won’t dare to kill you. If I kill you, I’ll just have to bear the sin of the Eightfold Tower, which I can handle! If you really anger me, I’ll make sure you can’t even reincarnate!"

A trace of fear involuntarily flashed in Li Hao’s eyes; if he couldn’t even reincarnate, that would be true death, with no next life!

"Scared?" The leading henchman grinned fiercely, "If you know fear, come with me, kneel in front of the Zhou Mansion, and shout three times ‘I don’t deserve Miss Zhou,’ and I’ll let you go! Otherwise... my master has also instructed us to bring back your ghost horns for a reward. Don’t say I’m not giving you a way out, you choose!"

"Hisss—" Li Hao took a deep breath.

At this moment, Li Hao felt not fear, but deep humiliation.

Kneel in front of the Zhou Mansion? Shout three times “I don’t deserve Miss Zhou”? — Li Hao, though not a hero, was not so spineless as to beg for his life in such a way.

Of course, Li Hao wasn’t stupid enough to be captured without a fight. So, at this moment, Li Hao’s choice was undoubtedly to run!

Taking advantage of the henchmen’s slight relaxation, Li Hao suddenly burst out of the encirclement and fled madly down the street.

"Once I get to Master Zhang, I’ll be safe!" Master Zhang was a "ghost cultivator" who lived in seclusion in this area; no one knew how strong Master Zhang was, but no one dared to disrespect him—not even the Zhou family.

"Trying to run!?" The five henchmen had already considered Li Hao a fish in a jar, but they didn’t expect the fish to jump out and run.

"Stop!"

"If you don’t stop, I’ll beat you to death when I catch you!"

Li Hao’s strength was inferior, and although he ran for his life, he was still slower than the five henchmen. At this speed, he would be caught before he reached Master Zhang’s residence.

"Stop, or else!" One of the henchmen, enraged, swung a large club at Li Hao; hit by the club, Li Hao fell to the ground with a thud.

"Run! Why aren’t you running now?" The five henchmen surrounded Li Hao again, but this time, they formed a tighter circle.

"Boss, I say we tear off his legs first!" one henchman suggested, "Without legs, he won’t be able to run!"

"Good idea!" The leading henchman agreed without hesitation, "You two, go tear off his legs, but don’t eat them yet. We need to reattach them later—otherwise, how will he kneel in front of the Zhou Mansion?" Ghosts, being spiritual bodies, could easily reattach severed limbs.

"Alright!" Two henchmen pounced on Li Hao with a fierce look.

Li Hao struggled to run; if his legs were broken, he would truly be like fish on a chopping board!

"Trying to run again!"

Before Li Hao could stand up, he was hit by another club and fell to the ground again.

"Ugh!" Li Hao seemed to see his fate—his legs torn off, and then humiliated to death by the Zhou family.

Li Hao was certainly not willing! But this was a world where strength spoke, and unwillingness was useless!

Seeing the two henchmen pounce on him viciously, Li Hao tried to fight back with all his might, but in the face of such a huge strength disparity, all his resistance was futile.

Just as Li Hao was about to lose hope, suddenly, a thunderous shout echoed: "Stop!!!"

Before Li Hao and the five henchmen could react, Li Hao saw a familiar figure quickly approaching.

"Ah..." Li Hao finally recognized the figure, "Ah Wei?..."

Li Hao felt a bit dazed—was this still his good friend Jiang Wei? They had only been apart for less than a day, how could he have become so powerful?

This was unscientific! — The word "scientific" even popped up in Li Hao’s mind.

"Xiao Hao, what are you standing there for, get up!" Jiang Wei smiled and lent a hand.

"Uh, Ah Wei..." Li Hao stood up dumbly, "How...?"

"Let’s talk later." Jiang Wei’s gaze turned cold as he looked at the five henchmen lying on the ground, "Let’s deal with these first!"
