Every year, many directors and production teams come to the Beijing Film Academy to select actors. To facilitate communication, the school has arranged a public lounge on the first floor of the Performance and Directing Building, equipped with light blue sofas and chairs. During the school term, many handsome guys and beautiful girls chat here, but now it is empty.
Sitting on the light blue sofa, Lixin Yue looked at Zhang Ran and asked, "You haven't written a single word of your lesson plan, right?"
Zhang Ran nodded with a bitter smile, "I've been busy with other things these days and only wrote an outline. I originally planned to write it during the military training. To be honest, I never thought the university would check the lesson plans; otherwise, I would have finished it no matter what!"
Lixin Yue also disagreed with the lesson plan inspection: "Many universities don't require lesson plans, but Dean Huang insists on it, and no one can do anything about it. You haven't written a single word, so it's too late to write it now. You can only copy someone else's lesson plan."
Copying was indeed a solution, but Zhang Ran, who had just arrived at the Beijing Film Academy, was not familiar with the teachers in the Performance Department. He said helplessly, "I would like to copy, but I don't know many people. Where can I copy from?"
Lixin Yue blinked her eyes and smiled like a fox, "Don't worry, leave it to me. I'll borrow the lesson plan from Teacher Cui! But how will you repay me?"
Zhang Ran then remembered that Lixin Yue was a student of Cui Xin Qin, who now taught the 00-level undergraduate class. It would be easy for Lixin Yue to borrow the lesson plan. He immediately felt relieved and said confidently, "I'll treat you to a meal, and you can choose the place!"
Lixin Yue giggled, "I know you don't have money now, so let's go to Gua Gua Food Street! When you have money in the future, I'll come back and take you for a big meal!"
Zhang Ran promised, "No problem, when I have money, I'll take you to the Wangfu Hotel!"
"Deal!" Lixin Yue smiled, stood up, and said, "I don't know if Teacher Cui's lesson plan is at school or at home. I'll go find her and call you when I get the lesson plan!" With that, she turned and went to the 00-level office to find Cui Xin Qin.
Zhang Ran, in a bad mood, didn't want to go back to the office to see Hu Weiguo's face, so he wandered around the campus.
The buildings of the Beijing Film Academy were all gray concrete structures, giving a sense of history and showing the school's age. At this moment, the sunlight from above cast a warm yellow hue over the entire campus, like a film reel with rich tones.
The Beijing Film Academy was small, and the main scenery, besides the pyramid, the shadows in the forest, and the lush grass, was the girls in their colorful attire. However, since it was not the school term, the campus was quiet, and there were no young, beautiful faces to be seen.
Zhang Ran wandered around for a while and had nowhere to go, so he came to the third floor of the school canteen, which was the Gua Gua Food Street that Lixin Yue mentioned.
The canteen of the Beijing Film Academy was a three-story flat-roofed building. The first floor was a ** restaurant, the second floor was the canteen and a small restaurant, and the third floor was a unique dining landscape of the Film Academy, called Gua Gua Food Street. It was essentially a food stall, offering various regional cuisines from Sichuan, Hunan, Shandong, Shaanxi, and Northeast China. When students were on campus, the place was bustling with people at noon and in the evening, and the business was incredibly busy. Besides the students, sometimes underground directors who had won a few international awards would come here to eat.
Opposite the food stalls was a bar that served coffee, cold drinks, and draft beer. The students of the Beijing Film Academy loved to sit here when they had nothing to do, order a cup of coffee, and watch the sunset through the window, or sit together in groups to discuss scripts or make grand statements like, "I'll produce this film with 10 million, but I think it's too little!"
Zhang Ran ordered a cup of milk tea and leaned back in his chair, thinking about how to start his work after the school term began.
At eleven, Lixin Yue called Zhang Ran and told him that she had the lesson plan. Zhang Ran breathed a sigh of relief and told Lixin Yue that he was waiting for her at Gua Gua Food Street.
After hanging up, Zhang Ran took a deep breath and looked out the window, clearly seeing the basketball court of the school. Two handsome guys were playing basketball, Hu Weiguo and Chen Hai. Hu Weiguo had good skills, and with a fake move, he easily passed Chen Hai and scored.
"Excuse me, can I sit here?" Just as Zhang Ran was evaluating their skills, a soft and slightly nervous voice sounded beside him. When he turned his head, he saw a pretty girl with a slight blush looking at him.
The girl was in her early twenties, wearing a pink T-shirt and a denim skirt, with her black hair flowing down her shoulders like a waterfall, and her face had a light blush.
"Of course, please sit!" Zhang Ran glanced around and saw that there were many empty seats. This girl was clearly trying to strike up a conversation. Since he had nothing to do, chatting with a pretty girl would be a pleasant experience.
The girl sat down opposite Zhang Ran and smiled, asking, "Which department are you from?"
"Performance Department, and you?"
"Ah? I'm also from the Performance Department. Why have I never seen you before?" The girl was clearly surprised, her beautiful eyes wide open, and she looked at him with a hint of suspicion.
"I just started this year!"
"You're a freshman in the 01 class, so you should call me senior!" The girl smiled, introducing herself, "I'm Che Xiao, and you?"
A young girl making a teacher call her senior, Zhang Ran felt a bit depressed and corrected her, "I'm Zhang Ran, but I'm not a student; I'm a performance teacher!"
The performance teachers at the Beijing Film Academy were always trained by the school and never hired from outside. Outside hires were usually for physical training or vocal training. Che Xiao didn't believe Zhang Ran and gave him a sideways glance, "Then I'm a physical training teacher!"
"I'm telling the truth! I'm not lying. I'm a performance teacher, the teacher and head of the 01 undergraduate class!" Zhang Ran felt speechless.
"Okay, okay, I believe you! Should I call you Teacher Zhang?" Che Xiao smiled, thinking, "You just want me to call you teacher, right?"
What kind of talk is this? It sounds like I'm tricking you to call me teacher. Zhang Ran was speechless.
At that moment, the sound of footsteps echoed, and Lixin Yue walked over with a stack of papers, "Teacher Zhang, I kept you waiting!"
"Teacher Zhang?" Che Xiao was stunned, her beautiful face turning red. She knew Lixin Yue, and if Lixin Yue called him Teacher Zhang, he must be a teacher.
Zhang Ran smiled at Lixin Yue and then looked at Che Xiao, saying innocently, "See, I didn't lie to you!"
"Teacher Zhang, I didn't know you were a teacher!" Che Xiao didn't know what to say, blushing so much that she wanted to find a hole to hide in. She stood up hurriedly, "I won't disturb you, goodbye!"
With that, Che Xiao fled, embarrassed. She had approached a handsome guy, only to find out he was a teacher. If this got out, she would be laughed at!
Lixin Yue sat down in Che Xiao's place and handed the stack of papers to Zhang Ran, "I ran all the way to borrow the lesson plan, and you were chatting with a pretty girl here. You're living a good life!"
"Thanks, thanks!" Zhang Ran felt particularly innocent. The pretty girl had approached him first. Seeing Lixin Yue sweating, he took the papers and fanned her, asking, "What would you like to drink?"
"Pearl milk tea."
Zhang Ran turned and called, "Boss, a pearl milk tea."
When the boss brought the milk tea, Zhang Ran took the papers and slowly flipped through them.
Cui Xin Qin's lesson plan was entirely handwritten, with neat and tidy handwriting that looked like it was printed. The different colored and thickness lines used to draw illustrations showed how serious and dedicated the lesson plan was.
The 96-level star class, besides the students' talent and luck, was indeed inseparable from the teachers' efforts!
Zhang Ran couldn't help but exclaim, "Teacher Cui is a remarkable person, and it shows from the lesson plan!"
Lixin Yue said proudly, "Of course, otherwise, how could he teach such an excellent class like ours in 96?"
Zhang Ran skimmed through the lesson plan, which was over a hundred pages, probably over a hundred thousand words. Writing so many words by hand would be exhausting: "I wonder if it's okay to submit a printed lesson plan?"
Lixin Yue hadn't paid attention to this before and thought for a moment, "There's no specific rule, so it should be okay!"
Zhang Ran breathed a sigh of relief. If he could print it, it would be much easier: "That's good. After the meal, I'll go back and print it. It should take just a few hours."
Lixin Yue looked at Zhang Ran and asked, "You're not planning to copy it word for word, right?"
Zhang Ran said, "Of course not, I'll make appropriate modifications."
Lixin Yue shook her head, "Just making appropriate modifications won't do. Do you know what Teacher Cui said when I went to borrow the lesson plan? She said she would come to listen to your class and hopes to see new things you bring from America. Everyone now expects you to bring something different to your teaching. If your lesson plan is just slightly modified, you'll definitely be criticized by Dean Huang for being perfunctory!"
Zhang Ran's face turned a bit grim, "I see. Do you have any good suggestions?"
Lixin Yue said, "How about this: I'll help you type Teacher Cui's lesson plan, and you write some content about the Stanislavski method. Then combine the two. It should pass!"
Zhang Ran thought this was the only solution. He was grateful for Chen Jianfeng's arrangement of Lixin Yue as his teaching assistant; otherwise, things would have been more complicated. He looked at Lixin Yue gratefully, "Thank you, Teacher Li!"
Lixin Yue smiled, "No need to be so formal. We're in the same trench now. Besides, you still owe me a meal!"
"Alright, let's go eat now!" Zhang Ran stood up.
The two of them carried their milk tea to a nearby restaurant, found a seat, and Zhang Ran asked about Lixin Yue's preferences, ordering steamed fish and two vegetable dishes, and a pitcher of beer.
Zhang Ran poured himself a full glass of beer and then poured one for Lixin Yue, raising his glass, "Teacher Li, I really owe you for this. I wouldn't have known what to do otherwise. This glass is to thank you."
"No need for formalities! Cheers!" Lixin Yue was very generous, raising her glass and clinking it with Zhang Ran's.
Zhang Ran had heard some acting lessons while studying at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, but he hadn't systematically studied them. His understanding and views on acting mainly came from America. Although the Beijing Film Academy taught the Stanislavski system, and he had also studied it in America, he wasn't sure how big the differences were. Lixin Yue, a graduate of the Beijing Film Academy, had taught a training class for a year and should be familiar with acting instruction, so Zhang Ran asked her about teaching content.
Through their conversation, Zhang Ran found that the acting instruction at the Beijing Film Academy was largely similar to that in America, divided into three stages: basic training, scene teaching, and complete character creation.
Since both were based on the Stanislavski system, the differences weren't as significant as he had imagined, mainly in the specific training methods. Understanding this, Zhang Ran felt much more relaxed. Retaining the common elements and adding new ones would make writing the lesson plan easier.
