I've started a new series! Please look forward to it!

I was born into the noble class, but I never thought that meant I was privileged.

The reason is that I was born as the second son of a lord.

My older brother, who is already ten years older than me, had the right to inherit the territory, and I was even a bastard. My mother died when I was three, due to complications after giving birth to my sister, and my father, the lord, died of illness when I was ten.

Thanks to this, I have been thoroughly persecuted by my half-brother for these past few years.

He is the legitimate lord, and I am treated as one of his vassals. I was only given half of a small village, and if there is a war with neighboring lords, I am sent to fight even though I haven't yet reached adulthood.

But, such days of misfortune will end today.

"Sir Altheros, you seem to be in an unusually good mood."

This was said by Raviala, who was helping me dress. I can't put on formal attire by myself; there are many buttons on the back.

"Is that so? Even Raviala can tell?"

"Of course! I've been serving Sir Altheros for nearly seventeen years!"

Raviala is one of my few vassals, or rather, a childhood friend.

She is a girl with elven blood, which is why her ears are pointed and she has beautiful blonde hair.

She is the daughter of the wet nurse who raised me, the woman who breastfed me. We are the same age, so we are almost like family.

On the other hand, the fact that Raviala is the daughter of a wet nurse itself reveals the weakness of my status.

In this land, the status of elves is not very high. I was given an elf as a wet nurse to highlight the difference between me and my legitimate brother. Of course, I don't avoid Raviala because of this.

"Today, I will finally become an adult and receive my vocation."

In this country, when one grows up, they receive a vocation.

Priests can hear the voice of the gods and determine a person's aptitude.

However, this doesn't mean that one can make a living by working in that vocation for the rest of their life. In most cases, the aptitude is only slightly better than that of an ordinary person.

In other words, even if a farmer's son is told, "You have the vocation of a warrior," it only means he is a bit stronger, and it would be almost impossible for him to live as a warrior. Of course, there are sometimes ability bonuses associated with vocations, which might be useful if one is conscripted for war.

In the case of a lord, it is almost unheard of for someone to give up being a lord just because they are told they are suited to be a warrior. They would only aim to be a lord who excels in battle. This is why the vocation granted by the temple is often called a "vocational aptitude," separate from one's actual job.

However, there are rare, extremely powerful vocations that can change one's life.

One of these is the Magic Swordsman.

This vocation is for those who excel in both magic and swordsmanship, essentially for heroes. In fact, all those who founded the dynasty in the past had the vocation of a Magic Swordsman.

If I become a Magic Swordsman and perform great deeds, my brother, who has been bullying me, will have no choice but to recognize me. If my reputation spreads, I might even receive a direct order from the royal family in the capital, even though it is currently in decline.

I might be able to escape my position as the second son of a minor lord, who is given no rights and is only sent to life-or-death battles.

There are also other vocations like Sage or Priest, which would give me a chance to leave my current land by going to the capital for studies. If I become an excellent Sage or Priest, I can use magic to achieve great things, and my brother might recognize me.

That's why it's natural for me to be excited.

"I will definitely become a Magic Swordsman."

To that end, I have read books on magic and trained in swordsmanship to get closer to being a Magic Swordsman.

"Raviala would like you to become a Sage and join a research institution. The current Sawil Kingdom is in the midst of the 'Hundred Years' War'... Here, your clothes are ready!"

Raviala came to the front of me with a cheerful smile.

"It would be nice if we could avoid fighting, but if we don't, we'll be destroyed by the neighboring lords."

The Sawil Kingdom, which has lasted for three hundred years, has weakened, and the lords are fighting each other for land, leading to a state of civil war known as the 'Hundred Years' War.' This is also why I have to go to war so often.

"Whether you fight or seek peace, having power is never a bad thing."

"Yes, I am well aware of Sir Altheros's wisdom... May glory await Sir Altheros's future."

I gently patted Raviala's head as she prayed with her hands clasped.

Then, I went to the temple in the territory with Raviala.

"You are the younger brother of the viscount, Sir Altheros, correct? Come this way."

The treatment I received from the priest was not bad because it is the lord's duty to provide financial support to the temple in the territory.

The elderly priest led me to the statue of the deity.

"Please bow your head there. I will then convey the vocation that the god has given to Sir Altheros. Keep your eyes closed until I tell you to open them."

"Okay, I'll leave it to you."

I could feel Raviala's gaze watching me from a distance.

Come on, please say Magic Swordsman!

The second chapter will be uploaded soon! I plan to upload up to the third chapter today.
