"Alright, everyone, let's hold our ground! The enemy is on edge! We have a chance to win!"
In response to my voice, a spirited cheer rises.
We are undoubtedly united as one. We can't just let them have their way, so we won't lose to the enemy who is merely attacking us.
"Leave this to me, Raviala!"
Raviala hid behind a small parapet on the protruding part of the fortress, raising her head slightly to shoot arrows one after another.
Enemy soldiers who were hit by the arrows fell.
Raviala's archery skills are exceptional. Many elves excel with bows.
On the other hand, the enemy's arrows are deflected by the parapet and don't reach Raviala.
We have reached the front, but that side is made like a sheer cliff. It's impossible to climb, and if they stop, they will be hit by our arrows.
Even if the enemy shoots arrows or magic fireballs, they don't have the power to destroy the parapet.
Our fortress is made entirely of earth. They can't even set it on fire or destroy the buildings. There isn't even a door to pry open. Its simplicity is what makes the enemy struggle. Besides, we never had the time to build anything more elaborate.
Eventually, the enemy realizes there is a path to climb from the side and attacks.
But that was within our expectations.
We intentionally made the path zigzag and sloped, so we can easily snipe from a higher position with spears and arrows.
The first ten enemy soldiers who climbed up were quickly all killed. Our base is completely visible from their approach. Moreover, the path is narrow, so they can't charge in with numbers.
"I was worried if such an earthen fortress would work, but it's proving to be very effective."
Even the old general Shivik was impressed.
"I instinctively thought an earthen fortress could work."
When we were planning the strategy, for some reason, a world where wars were fought with earthen fortresses came to mind.
This might be the knowledge and experience of the hero Oda Nobunaga.
In that world, just by creating height differences with earth, the fortresses were sufficient to defend against the enemy. A hundred soldiers could easily defend against a thousand enemies.
Indeed, since the enemy soldiers can't fly, an earthen fortress can be made as troublesome as needed just by working the earth.
A fortress is essentially a place to gain an advantage over the enemy through terrain. If we had the time, we could build a stone castle, but we can create a defensive base without spending that much time.
The enemy launched a desperate attack, and finally, a part of them managed to reach the end of the sloped path and tried to enter the main part of the fortress.
They are quite tough. I'll give them credit for pushing through the line of death and attacking.
However, they soon turned pale.
The path they followed doesn't lead to the fortress.
There is a large, deep moat in between, which they can't possibly jump over.
While they were hesitating, Raviala shot and killed the soldiers.
Our soldiers can move to other locations by placing wooden planks. The path the enemy thinks is the main route is actually broken off from the start.
"This earthen fortress seems simple, but it's incredibly sophisticated. Raviala, I'm amazed."
"I'm amazed too. Just by working on the path, we can gain such an advantage."
"At least as long as they keep attacking with brute force, we won't lose. After all, our soldiers are still in good shape."
Raviala looked behind her.
Indeed, there were almost no casualties.
We are fighting from a position of overwhelming advantage. The fear of death and the actual danger have significantly decreased.
On the other hand, the enemy's casualties have already exceeded a hundred. First, the ones who came to our front were shot one after another, and the enemies who tried to attack from the sloped path were defeated individually.
No one from Mynelia expected our fortress to be here. Attacking an unexpected enemy will only increase the number of corpses. They probably have no strategy to take down our fortress effectively.
In the end, the enemy retreated without achieving any significant results.
We cheered and celebrated our victory.
"I came up with this strategy, but without your courage, it wouldn't have taken shape. Thank you!"
My words further boosted the morale of the soldiers.

Since our side, the Neivl, was in a favorable position, my brother Gaisel also sent reinforcements.
With this, we can defend both the original Nagrad fortress and the fortress on the opposite bank. My brother praised the construction of the fortress on enemy territory in his letter, calling it "an achievement beyond words."
While it might not be enjoyable for my brother to see me excel, the threat from the enemy has undoubtedly decreased, which must be a relief.
It seems the Mynelia side has given up on destroying us in one go, and the tense war situation has calmed down. To be honest, the enemy has lost too many soldiers. They probably need to rethink their strategy from the ground up.
I also received an order to return from my brother Gaisel. After all, I was only there to help in emergencies, so it's only natural. I will return to my territory with Raviala.
"Salute to Lord Arslord!"
Finally, the old general Shivik made all the soldiers salute me.
"You are a hero of the ages! Neivl is saved thanks to you!"
"If I'm a hero, then each and every one of you is a hero too! Stand tall and fight for Neivl!"
I said something cool at the end.
During the return, Raviala said to me,
"I thought I knew everything about Lord Arslord, but you achieved results that surpassed my imagination by three levels."
"Yeah, I surpassed my own imagination by three levels too."
I was prepared to die in battle, but we managed to repel the enemy.
However, Raviala seemed a bit dissatisfied and puffed out her cheeks cutely. It's her pouting face.
"Is there a problem?"
"If you have such incredible power, I wish you had told me! It's terrible to keep secrets from me!"
"Well, I couldn't imagine it either, so it couldn't be helped. I think it's all thanks to my job."
"You mean that Oda Nobunaga?"
"Exactly."
I nodded on my horse.
"A magic swordsman is nothing compared to this. This is definitely the strongest job."
We successfully defended the new fortress. The next update will be tomorrow. From tomorrow, there will be a new development in Arslord's territory.
