Naturally, it was the little zombie who let out a howl. After knocking the skeleton to the ground, it was about to charge at the other skeletons behind, but then it heard Ang’s “ao” and reluctantly retreated.
Ang looked at it with some surprise. He had never known that the little zombie could run so fast, much faster than ordinary zombies, even faster than the skeletons, and much faster than a human’s 100-meter sprint.
Ang knew why it could harass the Ash Bone Skeletons and take out so many of their subordinates without a scratch. With such speed, there was nothing on the wasteland that could catch up to it.
The skeleton that had been knocked apart was left with only one arm. It looked at Ang in terror, taking a step back while picking up its scattered parts, first the other arm, then both hands, then one leg, and finally the other leg. After piecing together its legs, it couldn’t wait to stand up and run away quickly.
As for its companion, it had already run away without any sense of camaraderie after Ang’s “ao.”
“Saved.” The boy let out a sigh of relief. His strength drained, he could no longer hold his sister, and both of them tumbled to the ground.
The little girl might have been hurt from the fall and started to cry weakly. The boy, in a hurry, crawled over to help his sister up and looked around.
His gaze first fell on Ang, then on the little zombie, and finally on the Silver Skeleton. But he probably didn’t think any of them were reliable. He gritted his teeth, forced himself to carry his sister, and came to the altar, bowing his head desperately.
As he bowed, wisps of soul flames poured into the Flame of the Undead without restraint.
Ang stared at him blankly until Negris couldn’t bear it anymore and said, “Save him, what are you standing there for? He’s a fanatic; you can’t let him down, or all his fervent beliefs will turn into resentment towards his faith, and that’s how apostates are born.”
Ang tilted his head. “How do I save him?” He was just a farming skeleton, and even feeding people a few bites of food almost choked them. The little girl clearly wasn’t hungry, and he didn’t know how to save her.
Negris sighed. “Meeting you is my bad luck.” Since encountering Ang, Negris had broken too many rules. While this was partly due to his own self-abandonment after being sealed, the main reason was that Ang was too infuriating. He always did the opposite of what was expected, and if left alone, he could really make things go in the worst possible direction.
“A fanatic, why can’t I ever meet one? Lucky bastard. Forget it, since I’m sealed, I no longer need to be bound by rules. Let it go.”
“It’s just a demon’s dysentery, which causes vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. It’s easy to treat. You know the owner here, right? Ask him to lend you a mage, not a high-level one, just not an apprentice.” Negris said.
“I know magic.” Ang said.
“You know magic? A skeleton knows magic? Don’t joke around, quickly find someone.” Negris sneered. A skeleton knowing magic? With their weak mental power and linear thinking, they couldn’t even draw a magic circuit.
“I know four spells: Rain, Burn, Pollinate, and Loosen Soil.” As Ang spoke, he cast ‘Rain.’ He opened his palm, and the area in front of his palm gathered elements, quickly turning into droplets that sprinkled onto the ground, just like a light rain.
“What kind of magic is this? Why are they all related to farming? Could you have invented them yourself?” Negris, a god of knowledge, was actually stumped by these spells. He had never heard of them before. Could there be magic in the world he hadn’t heard of?
Ang nodded. Indeed, he had invented them. As a farming skeleton, watering was part of his daily work. In the past, he had to fetch water from the well to irrigate the fields.
Until the fifth year after the immortal soul disappeared, the well near the farm dried up.
Seeing the crops wither day by day, Ang was very anxious and tried hard to find a solution. Back then, Ang’s brain capacity was much smaller, and he couldn’t think of anything for months, watching the crops die.
Thinking and thinking, this was meditation, so by the second year, he could sense the moisture in the air and thought of drawing the ‘water’ from the air to the ground.
At first, he could only gather enough water to irrigate a few plants, so that year, his harvest was three pounds of grain. In the second year, his mental power grew, and he could gather enough water to irrigate a row of soil, and that year, he harvested twenty pounds of grain.
Thus, in the third, fourth, and fifth years, and up to the 320th year, he could finally cast ‘Rain’ continuously for a whole day, watering the entire farm.
With the experience of inventing the ‘Rain’ spell, Ang also invented the ‘Loosen Soil’ spell to make farming easier, and the ‘Pollinate’ spell because there were few insects on the farm, and without artificial pollination, many plants couldn’t flower.
The ‘Burn’ spell was for fertilizing the fields.
Speaking of fertilizing, Ang also discovered that where skeletons fell, the weeds grew more lush. So Ang tried throwing broken bones into the fields. Indeed, the fields with bones were more fertile, and grinding them into powder worked even better.
There was no place with more concentrated bones than the Hall of Rest, where decayed skeletons were everywhere. Picking up a small portion was enough for Ang to use for a long time.
This was why Ang knew magic.
“You really do know magic, but your power is too small, about the level of a first-tier mage. But why can you cast spells continuously? With such a tiny amount of power, one spell should drain you. Try again.” Negris was puzzled.
Ang cast a ‘Rain’ spell as Negris requested. After the raindrops sprinkled to the ground, Ang cast another ‘Rain’ spell. This continued, with a new spell cast as soon as the previous one disappeared.
From the effect, it looked like Ang’s hand was a showerhead, continuously watering the ground without stopping.
“The only explanation is that you have infinite mental power, leading to extremely fast magic recovery.” Negris thought of a possibility. The size of magic power can be sensed, but mental power cannot, except for making someone look energetic. But how could you tell if a skeleton was ‘energetic’?
“Since you know magic, let’s do this. Find a cup of water. This is a Purification spell, a simple first-tier holy light magic. Purified water is holy water, specifically for driving away dysentery.” As he spoke, Negris laughed, as if thinking of something amusing. “Hehe, if the Light Church people knew that a skeleton learned their Purification spell, I wonder what their faces would look like?”
