Nagris didn't know what to say. Planar projection, and especially projection to the Material Plane, was a feat only deities could accomplish.
The power that penetrates the planar barriers would be weakened by several dozen times. A force that could crush a wild bull would only be enough to strangle a rabbit when projected to the Material Plane, making one feel quite powerless.
Nagris never projected his power. He was the God of Knowledge; a few words were enough. He would project himself to chat, answer questions, and resolve doubts. However, it was quite annoying that people often called upon him during exams to ask for answers.
Ang had just obtained his divine essence and so quickly mastered the ability of planar projection. Couldn't he slow down a bit? Was this skeleton really that naive or just pretending? Nagris was angry.
An angry Nagris ignored it, and Ang was also forgotten. They weren't very familiar with the silver coin, so they naturally didn't know about his schemes with Lisa.
The next morning, Ang sprinkled a thin layer of soul soil over the large pit and buried it. Then, he sowed seeds beside the area he had planted the previous day, repeating the actions to avoid the loss of soil fertility.
Even if he only planted once, the vast wilderness before him would take him a few hundred years to plant.
As Ang continued planting, he was effectively missing in action for the underground city.
Phyllin returned to the city hall with a worried look. Esk and the goblin Crag, and the succubus Lina, immediately surrounded him: "Lord Mayor, did you find Lord Ang? What about the food?"
Phyllin shook his head: "Lord Ang still hasn't returned, and the minotaur doesn't know where he went. Here is a bag of beets; you can distribute them to support for a while."
"Beets!" Esk's eyes lit up. They were almost out of food, and other things were even worse. His mouth was so bland it could almost taste birds, and he had even developed sores at the corners of his mouth and dry stools. In the past, eating some moss would have been enough, but now, not only was there no moss, even the wall plaster had been scraped off and eaten.
Lina and Crag, though not as excited as Esk, were still very happy. They quickly divided the beets. Lina complained: "Thank you, Lord. I've already eaten my jumping rabbit, and I expect to run out of food in a day or two."
"My family has already run out of food. These beets might be my last meal. Lord, if there's a slot for becoming a lich, can you save one for me?" Crag asked, packing the beets as if to take them away.
"Reincarnation as a lich?" Lina asked in surprise. "Why aren't you talking about expelling the lower-class population anymore?"
Crag shook his head: "It's too late. To prevent the situation the Lord Mayor mentioned, I'll take these beets home and give my family a good meal. After that, I'll send them on their way, so they don't end up being skewered and roasted."
Phyllin waved his hands: "It won't come to that. I won't let that happen. But it's better to send them on their way early; dying of starvation is a terrible experience. As for reincarnation... I can only give you a soul flame. Whether you can successfully reincarnate and how much memory you retain will depend on Lord Ang's blessing. But the good news is, with Lisa around, you won't become ugly."
Crag laughed: "I don't care about becoming ugly. Unlike those charming creatures who rely on their looks, but Lord, you smell strange. Is something wrong?"
Phyllin was examined from head to toe. Although there were traces of magical cleaning, without water, a faint smell still lingered.
Phyllin smiled awkwardly: "Uh, when I was... picking beets, I got hit by the minotaur's broom."
Everyone's faces changed, and they subtly moved away. Luthor had once vividly described the power of the minotaur's broom, a weapon that could scare even a Sword Saint into fleeing.
Clattering footsteps, Lisa, dusty and weary, walked in, her hood off, revealing her smooth, long hair that covered her white neck and collarbone.
Lina pursed her lips, turned her head, and muttered angrily: "Old hag."
Lisa, catching the succubus's expression, sneered inwardly: "Flirt."
The pronunciation of "Lisa" and "Lina" in the common language was very similar. If both were present, calling one's name would make the other think they were being called, so they tried to avoid being in the same place and didn't like each other.
Lisa took off her cloak, her hands glowing with holy light, and swept over her hair and clothes, removing the dust and dirt. She looked like a freshly bathed, fragrant beauty, making Crag's face turn red, and he quickly looked away.
Lina's eyes turned red with jealousy. If she could also master such divine magic, she could always maintain her perfect state, and even oily hair wouldn't be a problem.
"Lord Ang, please grant me power!" Lina devoutly prayed in her heart, unaware that her faith had turned into soul flame and was absorbed by the "old hag."
Lisa was Ang's divine warrior, responsible for collecting the faith of believers, like Oak.
Phyllin asked urgently: "Lisa, how is the situation in Ice City? Do we have food?"
Lisa shook her head: "No, we can't contact the silver coin, and buying food from the human world is not an option."
Crag slapped the table: "I knew goblins couldn't be trusted." Realizing he was a goblin too, he quickly added: "Goblin merchants can't be trusted, but goblin engineers are reliable."
"This is troublesome." Phyllin sighed. "If we can't find Lord Ang soon, we'll start starving to death."
"What about Lord Ang?" Lisa, who had been in Ice City, didn't know about Ang's situation.
As she spoke, she summoned holy light and naturally patted Phyllin, purifying the areas he hadn't cleaned.
"Lord is missing, and we don't know if he has left." Phyllin obediently raised his hands.
Phyllin's word "left" only Lisa understood. The Watcher's "leaving" definitely didn't mean leaving the Lich City or Ice City, but leaving this plane.
"No, Lord hasn't left. I can sense his presence. Please wait a moment." Lisa knelt down, clasped her hands, and prayed devoutly, her body glowing with a faint holy light.
After a while, Lisa stood up and said: "Follow me." She floated out first.
Flying up from the planting area, they soon noticed some faint traces on the ground. Some areas had hardened soil that crumbled underfoot, leaving footprints.
This was very unusual. The ground soil, long exposed to the Resting Wind, was loose and soft, and couldn't form footprints. The hardening indicated that a large amount of water had been poured recently.
Lina flapped her wings, flew around, and pointed in a direction: "Look, the traces lead that way."
Following the traces, they soon saw a large basin at the edge of the world, with the traces extending into it.
...
Ang entered his favorite rhythm, planting, watering, harvesting, sleeping... well, not sleeping. For over a thousand years, he had lived like this, except he no longer needed to sleep.
Sleeping was one of the two ways for undead to strengthen their souls, the other being plunder. Soul flames might have surpassed the third method for undead.
With a constant supply of soul flames, Ang no longer needed to sleep. When the Resting Wind blew, everyone would hide in the pit, and Ang would treat Lightning's horn.
Both Lightning and Nagris had underestimated the difficulty of restoring a unicorn's horn. The horn was the source of Lightning's power, essentially a magical artifact capable of withstanding immense lightning power, making it extremely strong.
At first, Nagris made a cup to cover Lightning's head, filled it with essence liquid, and soaked the broken end, but it had no effect; the horn wouldn't grow.
After several attempts, they found the best method was to apply the essence liquid to the broken end, then cast the Purify spell, apply more essence liquid, and cast the Purify spell again, repeating this process about ten times. The horn would grow by a couple of millimeters, and then they had to wait until the next day to continue.
This was already good, giving Lightning hope. It immediately hugged Ang's thigh bone: "Lightning will be your most loyal companion."
Ang kicked it away in disgust. Lightning was too big, and hugging his thigh almost broke Ang's bones.
Thus, during the day, he planted, and at night, he treated. The planting area extended in a certain direction, chosen randomly, but as he planted, Ang found himself in a familiar place.
Ahead was a large basin sunken into the wilderness. Esk had once led him and the small zombie from here, climbing up and walking all the way to the Lich City, the place where they had arrived in the world.
Ang stopped planting and walked into the basin, heading towards the center until he saw the two stone pillars protruding from the ground.
Seeing the stone pillars, Ang confirmed his location. He looked around, determined the position, and started digging. Soon, bags of food were unearthed.
When he first passed through the portal, he had pushed a cart of food, which the small zombie couldn't eat, so he buried it.
"Why do you bury food everywhere?" Nagris couldn't help but shout. Now, Ang was planting and burying, burying all the food he grew.
Checking the food, it was still good and active, so he decided to use it as seeds.
Returning to the edge of the basin, Ang decided to start planting here, filling the basin first.
Because the basin was sunken, the Resting Wind was weaker, so it had accumulated more nutrients, making the soil more fertile than outside. This area should be able to support two plantings.
He sprinkled the seeds and kept watering. As he watered, he suddenly noticed the ground sinking.
"Huh? Why is it sinking? Is it hollow underneath?" Nagris was surprised. "Keep watering, wash away the soil, and see what's happening."
The more he watered, the more the ground sank, and the area of sinking grew larger. When a pit about twenty meters in diameter formed, the tip of a building was exposed at the bottom.
