Chapter 72

The Dark Warrior was enveloped in a holy light that shot out from all seven of his orifices, and countless rays of light burst from his body, making him look as if he were riddled with holes, causing him to scream in panic.

The Word of Holiness, a divine spell that ignores defenses—why would a skeleton be able to cast the Word of Holiness?

It's over, divine spells deal extra damage to undead creatures; I'm dead, I'm dead, I'm dead... Wait? Why isn't it painful?

He patted himself up and down, but there were no wounds? No, wait, go to hell? I'm an undead creature, I'm already dead...

The terrified Dark Warrior realized that apart from his senses being overwhelmed by the holy light, he had not been harmed. However, before he could recover his senses, a giant scythe had already sliced through him, hooking out a clump of his soul.

On the other side, the second Dark Warrior was engaged in a fierce battle with the angelic skeleton. The Dark Warrior's martial skills were superb, his attacks and defenses seamlessly connected, like a continuous flow of mercury, capable of reducing the angelic skeleton to a pile of bones if he could land a hit.

However, every time he was about to strike the angelic skeleton, a long-necked head would suddenly extend, using the thick helmet to block his shadow blade.

Turning his head, he saw Nigris with a look of helplessness and intense concentration.

There was nothing he could do; Ang had told him to be a shield. What could he do? Refuse? If the angelic skeleton were reduced to a pile of bones, the little zombie would beat him to a pulp.

Moreover, it made the most sense for him to be the shield. The brass dragon had thick, tough skin, high magic resistance, and high physical defense, and being an undead creature, he was immune to pain and death. With a soul link, even if his body were destroyed, Ang could repair it, or at worst, cultivate a new one.

He secretly removed a scale and hid it, in case his body was ever destroyed and he needed something to regenerate from.

He had modified a heavy knight's armor to create a helmet and chest plate for himself, reinforcing these areas. In reality, even without the reinforcement, his scales were already very sturdy.

Clang! The shadow blade struck Nigris's head and was deflected by the helmet.

The angelic skeleton's fist followed closely behind.

The Dark Warrior bent his elbow and pushed, using the force to retreat, then swung his blade again.

Clang! Nigris's head extended once more.

The brass dragon's neck was long and flexible, moving back and forth with great agility and stability, even better than a chicken's head for stabilizing.

With his focused cooperation, the angelic skeleton seemed to have an extra hand, blocking fatal attacks and allowing it to concentrate on striking.

A single blade blocking three 'hands,' for a moment, the battle seemed evenly matched.

The Dark Warrior was not overly concerned; this trick could gain a temporary advantage but not a lasting one. If he could seize an opening, he could strike directly, using a combination of attacks to finish the opponent, or wait for his companion to deal with the other skeleton and come to his aid...

"Go to hell!" The shout startled him. Turning his head, he saw his companion with holy light shooting from all seven orifices, feeling puzzled as he patted himself, then being hooked out by a scythe.

A Dark Warrior, no, a Dark Knight, had been defeated in a one-on-one battle by a gray bone skeleton?

Although this gray bone skeleton could use the Reaper's Scythe, the most feared weapon of ethereal beings, it was still just a gray bone skeleton!! Oh, and it could use the Word of Holiness, ride a horse, and... Damn, was this even a skeleton?

Now, instead of his companion defeating the skeleton and coming to his aid, the skeleton had defeated his companion and was coming to attack him.

Seeing Ang turn to him and raise the Reaper's Scythe, the Dark Warrior gritted his teeth, plunged his blade into the ground, and flicked it up, sending a cloud of dust into the air.

"Pfft! Throwing sand? You're not ashamed? You're a Dark Warrior, aren't you!" Nigris couldn't help but laugh.

Throwing sand, stepping on toes, poking eyes, and grabbing groins were notorious street-fighting techniques. Any skilled swordsman would avoid using them, let alone a noble Dark Warrior, who would be disgracing the Dark Warriors.

The last three moves were ineffective against undead creatures, but throwing sand was still useful. The dense cloud of gravel and dust not only obscured vision but also blocked soul perception. When the dust settled, the Dark Warrior had vanished.

However, while this trick could deceive the angelic skeleton, it couldn't deceive Ang. From the dust, Ang sensed a dark shadow burrowing into the ground, right where the Dark Warrior had thrust his blade.

The angelic skeleton spread its wings and flew into the sky, hovering directly above the pit, its wings growing brighter.

After replacing its wings with those of a six-winged seraphim, the angelic skeleton gained two new abilities: the holy light gauntlets extended to cover the entire forearm, and it could store holy light energy in advance, without needing Ang to infuse it during battle.

The Dark Warrior, who was burrowing underground, suddenly felt a chill in his soul.

The new wings were larger and had three segments, not much different when folded, but when spread... it was no wonder murals exaggerated the six-winged seraphim as moths; the wings were truly enormous.

The wings reached their peak brightness, and the angelic skeleton pushed its hands into the ground, sending a beam of light piercing through the earth.

Pfft! Like a stone hitting the surface of a lake, a ripple formed and then settled, leaving only a pit that melted into a liquid, quickly cooling and crystallizing into a thin, glass-like dome.

The angelic skeleton, without a doubt, turned to ash, even its wings, and finally fell, losing its left leg bone.

It didn't mind, picking up the leg bone and reattaching it, then running to Ang and raising its hands high.

Nigris sighed, "A battle bird is a battle bird, never changes. He burrowed underground, so we dig. Did you have to use your ultimate move? Only Ang can recover so quickly; otherwise, seven thousand purifications would take a hundred priests seven to eight days to restore you. Who can afford that?"

Picking up the holy remains and placing them in the Palace of Rest, he led Lightning, with the angelic skeleton sitting on it, followed by the little zombie and the brass dragon, who squeezed onto the back. Lightning carried them all away.

The order was arranged this way because the angelic skeleton's wings could get stuck in Ang's ribs, so the little zombie served as a buffer.

Long after Ang and his group had left, a wisp of smoke slowly rose from the ground, wavering and unable to form a shape.

The severely injured Dark Warrior struggled to reach into his chest, pulling out a scroll. Unable to tear it with one hand, he finally placed it on the ground and stepped on it to tear it open.

A flash of teleportation light burst forth, then rapidly contracted to a central point, along with the incomplete Dark Warrior.

...

"Why are there Dark Warriors?" Nigris muttered, sitting at the back, his eyes on Ang.

"Dark Warriors are artificial undead creatures that require a reincarnation altar to be reborn. Where did they come from?" His eyes continued to glance at Ang.

"I remember that Demon Valley was once called the River of the Dead because it had a reincarnation altar for reborn Dark Warriors and other undead creatures. How did it end up being occupied by demons? Based on the direction the skeleton was kneeling, they likely came from Demon Valley."

"There's also a lava river there, bubbling and gurgling, quite a sight."

Nigris rambled on, but no one responded, except for Lightning, who sympathetically grunted a few times.

Sighing, Nigris, out of options, resorted to his ultimate move: "Volcanic ash is the best fertilizer."
