Chapter 2: Lost in the 90s (3)
Zhang Yang let out a sigh of relief, put his ID card back in his jacket pocket, and after a day and night of relentless knowledge acquisition, he had a rough idea of his current situation. His name is Zhang Yang, male, twenty years old. As a graduate of a nursing school, he is considered quite old for his age. His home address is No. 16 Anti-Imperialist Road, Xiguan, Chunyang County, less than three kilometers from the county people's hospital. Zhang Yang has a habit of keeping a diary. From the diary, he learned about the past Zhang Yizhen, which helped him understand his current inner world. When Zhang Yang was one year old, his father died, and his mother Xu Lihua remarried to his current husband, Zhao Tiesheng. Zhao Tiesheng already had two sons and a daughter, and naturally, they did not treat Zhang Yang, the stepchild, well. The diary's words reveal Zhang Yang's deep resentment towards the Zhao family.
Chen Guowei looked at the dry instant noodles in Zhang Yang's hand and patted his shoulder sympathetically, "Eating instant noodles all the time is bad for your stomach. The hospital canteen's food is pretty good. Don't be too frugal."
Zhang Yang nodded and said straightforwardly, "I have no money!"
Chen Guowei, who knew a bit about Zhang Yang's family situation, sighed, "Come on, I'll treat you tonight!"
Zhang Yang didn't hesitate and followed Chen Guowei to the canteen, where he enjoyed a hearty meal. Chen Guowei's father was the head of the finance department at a state-owned enterprise in Jiangcheng, and their family was well-off. Chen Guowei was usually generous, and he invited Zhang Yang to dinner partly out of sympathy. Of course, there was another reason: Zhang Yang had already angered Dean Zhou, beaten a patient outside the hospital, and skipped work today. These three incidents were enough for the hospital to send him back to the nursing school. This meal had a bit of a farewell dinner feel to it.
Zhang Yang ate two servings of braised pork and three servings of rice, then buried his head in the white porcelain bowl of tomato and egg soup. Since arriving in the 90s, he hadn't had a proper meal, and he was indeed very hungry.
Chen Guowei watched Zhang Yang in amazement; this guy could really eat. He didn't know that Zhang Yang had been hungry for 1,300 years, so this amount of food was nothing to him.
Zhang Yang wiped his lips, burped contentedly, and looked at Chen Guowei with much warmer eyes. One should not forget those who have helped them, and since Chen Guowei had treated him to a meal, he naturally wanted to be friendly.
Chen Guowei blinked and stood up, "Well... you go back to the dormitory first, I'll go to the emergency room to check... " Interns usually don't have emergency shifts, but many still go to the emergency room every night to learn more.
Zhang Yang nodded and left the canteen with Chen Guowei. They noticed a light rain starting to fall. Thinking there was nothing to do back at the dormitory, he decided to follow Chen Guowei to the emergency room.
The two ran towards the emergency room in the rain. Before they even arrived, they heard the urgent sound of ambulances approaching. Five ambulances parked in front of the emergency room, and the doctors and nurses rushed out, followed by many interns. Zhang Yang immediately noticed Hong Ling and the school beauty, Zuo Xiaqing, among the rescue team.
A tall young doctor was busy directing the scene. The ambulances had brought fifteen injured people, the result of a scaffolding collapse at the tax bureau building in the southeast of the county. Although no one died at the scene, fifteen severely injured workers were a serious matter.
The county hospital's emergency room was still quite weak in medical resources. Including the ophthalmology and pediatrics departments, only five doctors were on the scene. The young doctor directing the operation was a bone specialist named Gao Wei, a graduate of Jiangcheng Medical University in 1989 and a senior to Hong Ling and Chen Guowei. This was the first time he had encountered such a situation. Gao Wei directed the injured to be moved into the emergency room and instructed Hong Ling to contact the on-duty doctors from other departments.
Seeing Chen Guowei and Zhang Yang standing there as spectators, Gao Wei shouted angrily, "You two, go help measure blood pressure!"
Chen Guowei hurriedly nodded and followed a stretcher inside. Zhang Yang knew the basics of traditional Chinese medicine, but he had no idea how to measure blood pressure. A young nurse handed him a sphygmomanometer and pointed towards Zuo Xiaqing, indicating he should measure the blood pressure of the patient she was attending to.
Zhang Yang walked over. Zuo Xiaqing, clearly experiencing her first emergency, had a pale face from tension. A strand of her long hair, hidden under her white cap, had escaped, adding a touch of charm. Zhang Yang secretly admired her, "What a beauty!"
Zuo Xiaqing immediately noticed Zhang Yang's attention on her face and glared at him angrily, "Measure the blood pressure!"
"I don't know how," Zhang Yang said honestly.
Zuo Xiaqing bit her lower lip. A medical intern who didn't know how to measure blood pressure, a basic skill, was truly a mystery. She snatched the sphygmomanometer from Zhang Yang, rolled up the patient's sleeve, and then noticed that both of the patient's arms were deformed. She panicked and looked for Gao Wei, "Teacher Gao!"
Gao Wei was busy stopping the bleeding of a severely injured patient and couldn't attend to her request.
Zhang Yang immediately saw that the patient had only dislocated elbows. He smiled faintly and grabbed the patient's left arm.
Zuo Xiaqing exclaimed in shock, "What are you doing?" In her view, the patient's arm was likely broken, and moving it could cause further dislocation.
Zhang Yang ignored her, lifted the patient's upper arm with his left hand, and grabbed the wrist with his right hand. With a gentle pull, there was a crack, and the patient's left arm was successfully reset.
In a moment, he also reset the patient's right arm. Zuo Xiaqing watched Zhang Yang in amazement. She was the only one who saw his actions clearly. A nursing school graduate, his bone realignment technique was so proficient that from the shape of the patient's arms, she could tell that both dislocated arms were cured with a simple movement.
Zhang Yang gave her a mysterious smile, and Zuo Xiaqing's face turned red as she returned to reality. She picked up the sphygmomanometer and measured the patient's blood pressure. Zhang Yang watched her curiously; even the simplest blood pressure measurement was a new and interesting thing to him.
