Chapter 12: Self-Surrender and Capture

Du Long did not call Ji Yinsan that night. What could he say if he called her then? It was better to leave it a mystery; Ji Yinsan wouldn't lose sleep over it, would she?

When Ji Yinsan appeared in front of Du Long the next day, she really had dark circles under her eyes, but it wasn't because Du Long hadn't called her. She was worried about her cousin's situation and couldn't sleep.

"I've come to surrender. I want to see Officer Du Long!" Luo Sheng loudly declared as he entered the police station.

Du Long was on duty that day. Hearing this, he, who was already prepared, immediately came out. He saw Ji Yinsan tightly gripping Luo Sheng's arm, as if afraid he would run away if she let go.

Du Long smiled slightly at Ji Yinsan and pretended to be surprised, saying, "Yinsan, why are you here? What's going on? Who is he?"

Seeing him feign ignorance, Ji Yinsan could only play along, lowering her eyes shyly and saying, "Officer... Officer Du, I'm here with my cousin..."

Luo Sheng glared at Du Long and said, "Officer Du, my name is Luo Sheng. I was wrong to be swayed by my friends and commit a crime. I've come to surrender! I am one of the two bandits who injured you. I hope for lenient treatment!"

"So it's you!" Du Long immediately took out handcuffs and cuffed Luo Sheng, then said to Ji Yinsan, "Yinsan, thank you for bringing him here. Don't worry, Luo Sheng will receive a fair legal judgment. You can go home now; I'll call you later."

Ji Yinsan firmly shook her head and said, "No, I've taken the whole day off. I'll wait here. Luo Sheng... you'll be fine. Cooperate with Officer Du in the investigation..."

Du Long and Luo Sheng sat face to face in the interrogation room. Luo Sheng confessed everything without hesitation. He hadn't slept well last night, thinking all night. As Luo Sheng was confessing, a police car arrived at the Lijuan Police Station. Huang Jiehao, along with several detectives, jumped out of the car. They had come specifically for Du Long's case, which had been dragging on for a month, causing a lot of pressure from higher-ups and the media. Hearing that someone had surrendered, Huang Jiehao immediately set aside his other tasks and personally led the team over.

Du Long and Huang Jiehao completed the handover procedures. Du Long briefly introduced the situation of Luo Sheng's surrender and volunteered to join the team in capturing the other suspect, Lu Min.

The previous case and its subsequent developments had left the district detective team in a bad light. Huang Jiehao was quite curious about Du Long and wanted to observe him. Without further ado, he greeted the on-duty officer Yang Chengfa and took Du Long and Luo Sheng with him.

Before leaving, Du Long said to Ji Yinsan, who was still waiting, "Yinsan, we have now basically confirmed Luo Sheng's surrender and his involvement in the crime. We're going to capture the other suspect in this case. If everything goes smoothly, it should be quick. There's no point in you waiting here. You look like you didn't rest well last night. Go home and get some sleep. I'll call you when I have a chance to update you on the case."

Ji Yinsan nodded, her heart heavy as she watched Du Long and Luo Sheng get into the police car. One was her fake boyfriend, the other her cousin. In just one day, her life had become a mess. How could she describe her feelings with just one word... "Girlfriend?" Huang Jiehao asked, looking at Ji Yinsan and smiling at Du Long.

Luo Sheng turned to look at Du Long, who said smugly, "She's Luo Sheng's cousin and the nurse who took care of me when I was hospitalized. It's fate. I turned a misfortune into a blessing; that blow wasn't in vain!"

Everyone laughed, but Luo Sheng wished he could strangle Du Long with his eyes. Du Long, however, smiled at him and said, "Luo Sheng, don't let your cousin's efforts go to waste!"

In the car, Huang Jiehao learned more about the case and the suspect Lu Min, then made a call: "Zhao Ping, we have a lead on the case. Bring your team to the Chunhui neighborhood in the West District..."

After hanging up, Du Long asked, "Captain Huang, was that a call to Zhao Ping from the 'Life' program?"

Huang Jiehao replied, "Yes, he and I have a good relationship. He's interviewed our team several times. Your case has been followed by many media outlets, so I'm doing him a favor."

Du Long smiled in understanding and casually asked, "Captain Huang, how is the case in the Lijuan neighborhood?"

Huang Jiehao said, "The evidence is clear. What else can be done? The three suspects have been sent to the detention center. It turns out the cause was that the brother-in-law wouldn't let his wife give money to her brother for gambling and prostitution. The brother, in a fit of anger, hired someone to kill the brother-in-law, thinking that with him dead, his sister's money would be his to spend."

"Truly beyond redemption," Du Long sighed, marking the end of that case in his mind.

The police car quickly arrived at the Chunhui neighborhood. The management here was not as strict as in the Lijuan neighborhood, and the residents were more diverse. At the target residence, local police officers were already in place. Seeing the detective team's car arrive, the station chief Hu Yi came forward.

Hu Yi handed a Honghe cigarette to Huang Jiehao and said, "Old Huang, someone saw the guy go up at noon and hasn't come down. Should we go up and arrest him now?"

Huang Jiehao looked at his watch and said, "Wait two more minutes. What's the environment like in the suspect's home? Is there anyone else there?"

Hu Yi replied, "No one else. His home has a security door, making it difficult to force entry. It's best to find someone familiar to open the door and then rush in."

Hearing this, Du Long immediately suggested, "Let Luo Sheng do it. Lu Min shouldn't suspect him."

Huang Jiehao called Luo Sheng over, explained the situation, and Luo Sheng, after some consideration, agreed.

The TV crew arrived late. A middle-aged man of average build, smiling, jumped out of the car. He was Zhao Ping, the host and journalist of the 'Life' program on Yuming City TV. The TV cameraman, who also served as the driver, carried the camera and followed Zhao Ping to Huang Jiehao's side. Huang Jiehao nodded at him and said, "We've been waiting for you. Follow us up later, and be careful. Everyone, get ready, let's go!"

Huang Jiehao had already made the arrangements. He pointed at Luo Sheng and said, "Luo Sheng, lead us up. When the door opens, we'll rush in. The guy is not very tall, so he shouldn't be hard to subdue. However, be cautious in case he has a weapon. Liu Yong'an and Zhao Wuyi, you two put on bulletproof vests and anti-stab gloves and go in first to pin him down. The rest of you follow and secure him. Liu Yong'an, take Luo Sheng up. Let's go!"

Several officers took Luo Sheng up, and Huang Jiehao, Du Long, Hu Yi, and the journalist Zhao Ping, along with the cameraman, followed.

In front of the camera, everyone was eager to show their bravery. Even Du Long got a couple of shots. Finally, the camera focused on the security door of Lu Min's home.

Luo Sheng knocked on the door and called out, "Lu Min, it's me. I want to discuss the matter from last time again. Open the door quickly."

About five seconds later, a voice responded from behind the door, and then the wooden and iron doors were opened one after the other. As soon as the iron door opened, two officers rushed in, shouting, "Police! Don't move!" They quickly pinned down the unsuspecting Lu Min. Other officers followed and successfully controlled him.

When Lu Min was dragged up to face the camera, he couldn't help but curse, "Luo Sheng, you traitor, bringing the police to catch me! I'll get you back, sooner or later!"

Luo Sheng hung his head, speechless. Seeing Lu Min still so arrogant after being caught, Du Long couldn't help but feel angry. He stepped forward, blocking the camera, and kicked Lu Min in the stomach. Lu Min, with his hands cuffed behind his back and flanked by two strong detectives, took the full force of the kick.
