Chapter 43 of 100
Chapter 43: A Turn of Events
11 min read2,767 words
The next morning, Ma Guangming appeared in the municipal government compound with a faint smile on his face. He greeted everyone he met with a relaxed demeanor, much to the disappointment of those who had heard the news and were hoping to see him in a bad situation.
Ma Guangming entered his office and found that the person cleaning was not his secretary, Zhang Xing, but another secretary, Lu Shunyu.
Lu Shunyu bowed and smiled, saying, "Mayor Ma, you're here. I'll go make you some tea."
Ma Guangming smiled and said, "Little Lu, is Zhang Xing on leave again? Why didn't he let me know?"
Lu Shunyu respectfully replied, "Mayor Ma, didn't you know? I heard that Zhang Xing turned himself in to the disciplinary committee last night due to economic issues."
Ma Guangming's face darkened. Zhang Xing's move was surprisingly quick, and he had turned himself in to the disciplinary committee so readily. This was not Zhang Xing's usual style, indicating that he had someone backing him up.
Last night, Ma Guangming had a good talk with Xin Meiling. He naturally knew who had tipped off Xin Meiling and fanned the flames. At that time, he already knew that Zhang Xing had someone behind him, but he thought his judgment was wrong. He didn't expect that Zhang Xing had only joined the municipal party secretary, Wang Shuwei, after the fact.
Ma Guangming just said "Oh" and didn't ask any more about Zhang Xing. Zhang Xing was just a small fry. To take him down, he first needed to remove his protector. Since it was still unclear who the target was, it was better to wait and see. Moreover, as his secretary, Zhang Xing's arrest by the disciplinary committee for economic issues would inevitably affect him to some extent. He needed to remain calm and composed.
Ma Guangming started his work. Zhang Xing had fled, and he didn't know if the tasks he had assigned yesterday had been completed. He didn't know if Wu Xi had called. After some consideration, he decided to call the Party Secretary of Wu Xi County, Lin Guoxiong, to check on the situation.
Just as he was about to pick up the phone, it rang. Ma Guangming answered, "Hello, this is Ma Guangming."
The voice of Deputy Public Security Bureau Chief Lu Hongguang came through the phone, "Mayor Ma, do you remember the matter you asked me to investigate yesterday? This morning, that guy applied for a transfer to the personnel department. When I saw it, I found out it was the same person I investigated yesterday, so I thought it was strange and decided to report it to you."
Ma Guangming asked, "Is it that Deputy Captain Shen Yujie of the Xishan District Criminal Investigation Team?"
Lu Hongguang confirmed, "Yes, Mayor Ma. What is his reason for the transfer? Where does he plan to go?"
Lu Hongguang replied, "He said he wants to go to a more challenging and needy place. Who would believe that? However, he applied to transfer to the criminal investigation team of a poor county under Hongjin City, which fits his words quite well."
Ma Guangming wasn't interested in where Shen Yujie was going; the farther away, the better. What he was interested in was that once Shen Yujie left, there would be a vacancy in the Xishan District Criminal Investigation Team. Du Long wanted to join the criminal investigation team, so it would be a good opportunity to place him there as a reward for helping to extinguish the fire.
After some consideration, Ma Guangming said, "If it rains, the sky will be wet; if the mother wants to marry, who can stop her? If he wants to leave, let him go. Find someone to fill the vacancy of Deputy Captain of the Xishan District Criminal Investigation Team. There's someone I want you to place in the criminal investigation team. His name is Du Long. From what I know, he is quite capable. He caught two wanted criminals recently, and you should remember that."
"Du Long?" Lu Hongguang, of course, remembered. He chuckled, "I understand. That young man is indeed quite capable. Let him train in the criminal investigation team."
Du Long didn't know that things had taken a turn for the better. While Ma Guangming and Lu Hongguang were on the phone, Du Long was about to call Huang Jiehao to confirm if he could help with the motorcycle registration and household registration. However, his phone rang first, and he recognized the number as being from Liyuan Police Station.
Du Long answered the call, pretending to be half-asleep, "Who is it? What's up?"
He heard Yang Chengfa's loud voice, "Du Long, it's your turn for the day shift today. Why are you still sleeping? Did you play too much with your girlfriend last night?"
Du Long yawned and said lazily, "Chief Yang, didn't you tell me to take a few days off? Did someone come to interrogate me?"
Yang Chengfa laughed, "You're quite something. The news has spread. The prosecution of the four thieves was personally dismissed by the city court president. Also, a notice has been issued. You've done a great job, and your regularization is a done deal. A few of us in the station have also benefited from your efforts. Come back to work soon. Comrade Wang even said he would recommend you for party membership."
Du Long's lips curled slightly. The power of the mayor's words was indeed extraordinary. No matter how influential Feng Weiwu's uncle was, he was only the third most important person in Yuming City!
Du Long laughed, "Chief Yang, that's great news. But... can I take one more day off? I promised my girlfriend we would buy a motorcycle today."
Yang Chengfa laughed, "Buy a motorcycle? That's a convenient thing. But... where do you plan to buy it? I have an idea. Every year, customs seizes many smuggled motorcycle parts. Assemble them, and you get an imported motorcycle. However, customs motorcycles are a bit more complicated and expensive. If you don't have high requirements, the traffic police station has many seized cars and motorcycles. If you want, I can help you get a good deal, and I can ensure there are no problems with registration and household registration!"
Du Long was delighted, "Thank you, Chief Yang. I don't have high requirements. I just want something durable, fuel-efficient, and cheap. I'm not very familiar with motorcycles, so you can make the decision for me. A 70-80% condition would be fine."
Yang Chengfa laughed, "Alright, take another day off today. By the time you come for the night shift tomorrow afternoon, the keys and the motorcycle should be ready. Enjoy your time with your girlfriend, but take care of yourself. Don't overdo it, hehe..."
After hanging up, Du Long thought for a moment. He had originally planned to buy a motorcycle today, but now he had nothing to do. What should he do now?
After some thought, he called Huang Jiehao. When the call connected, Huang Jiehao laughed, "Du Long, I was just about to call you. Are you free now?"
Du Long said, "Captain Huang, I'm on leave today. Have the killers in the two cases been caught?"
Huang Jiehao said, "If you're free, come to Jinma Hotel near the South Railway Station. We've identified a suspect and are monitoring him. Come and look at his file and help us analyze whether he's the one."
Du Long laughed, "Captain Huang, you're too kind. I'll come over, but I'm just here to learn. Jinma Hotel near the South Railway Station, right? I'll be there soon."
