Chapter 45 of 100
Chapter 45: Dilemma
10 min read2,595 words
"Want a smoke?" Huang Jiehao took out a pack of soft Honghe cigarettes. Du Long and Shen Bingqing both shook their heads. Huang Jiehao smiled, handing cigarettes to Meng Hao and Liu Yong'an while saying, "When Meng Hao and the others first graduated and joined the police force, they didn't smoke either. Now they're all old smokers. You can start by inhaling some secondhand smoke; you'll get used to it eventually."
Meng Hao was about to light his cigarette but suddenly put it back in his pocket and called out, "Captain Huang, the suspect is moving. He's turned off his computer and is packing up, looks like he's getting ready to leave."
Huang Jiehao's spirits lifted. He grabbed the walkie-talkie and said, "Attention all units, attention all units, the suspect is about to leave. Everyone, get ready according to the pre-planned operation. The trap is about to begin!"
After packing some items, the suspect, Ye Guangtian, left the hotel. From the gloves, masks, new rags, and bleach he put in his bag, it was clear he wasn't going to do anything legitimate.
Huang Jiehao continued to command, "The suspect has confirmed to have left the third floor. Yue Bingfeng, you can enter the suspect's room now. All units responsible for surveillance, pay attention to the suspect's movements. If he shows any signs of returning to the room, immediately take measures to stop him and issue a warning."
Meng Hao closed his laptop, put on a bulletproof vest, and a puncture-resistant glove, indicating he was one of the two officers responsible for hiding and implementing the arrest.
Ye Guangtian did not return to the guest room but left the hotel directly. He hailed a taxi at the hotel entrance and headed east.
"The suspect has left the hotel. Car No. 3 is following. Other tracking vehicles are proceeding to the designated intersections to take over the pursuit..." Chen Boxiong's voice came through the police walkie-talkie.
"Shouldn't we follow him?" Du Long, seeing the taxi gradually disappear, said anxiously.
Liu Yong'an started the car, leaving it in neutral and smiled, "We're waiting for the Ice Sculpture Beauty's message. She's busy cracking the suspect's QQ chat records right now. Once we get the specific address, we can head there first. The taxi the suspect is in will definitely encounter red lights or various traffic jams we intentionally create. He won't be able to outrun us."
Meng Hao opened his laptop again. On the surveillance screen, a young woman dressed as a Jinma Hotel staff member appeared. She placed the suspect's laptop on the bedside table, inserted a USB drive, and directly booted a special system to crack the suspect's chat records.
The camera resolution was not high enough for Du Long to see the woman's face, but her figure was indeed good. Du Long was surprised, "She's the Ice Sculpture Beauty? Wasn't she supposed to be cracking the data in the server room? Why is she risking it by entering the suspect's room to crack the chat records on the laptop?"
Meng Hao boasted, "The chat records are highly encrypted during transmission, making them difficult to crack. The local chat records, although also encrypted, are relatively easier to crack. To save time, she has to directly crack the chat records on the laptop."
Everyone waited anxiously. After just a few minutes, which felt like an eternity, Meng Hao suddenly said, "It seems to have worked!"
In the surveillance, Yue Bingfeng stood up, took out a walkie-talkie, and said, "Report to the on-site command, the target location has been confirmed: Building 15, Unit 1, Room 302, Tian Nan Vocational College Teacher Community, Yulong District."
"Very good. After you restore the scene, you can withdraw," Huang Jiehao said, then signaled to Liu Yong'an and pressed the walkie-talkie, "The target has been identified: Building 15, Unit 1, Yulong District, Tian Nan Vocational College Teacher Community. Action!"
Liu Yong'an drove in another direction. Huang Jiehao placed a police light on the roof, and the car sped forward with the siren wailing. Huang Jiehao continuously issued signals, and their car encountered green lights all the way. After a turn, they were on the same street as the suspect, heading towards Yulong District.
The vehicles tracking the suspect reported the situation at any time. Indeed, the suspect encountered numerous obstacles, moving very slowly, while Du Long's car sped forward without any hindrance. When they arrived at the destination, the suspect was at least ten minutes away.
Upon reaching the target building, Huang Jiehao met with Chen Boxiong. Then, Liu Yong'an and the others parked the car elsewhere and hid it. Huang Jiehao and Chen Boxiong led Meng Hao, Liu Shaojie, and other detectives up the stairs. From the identical equipment of Liu Shaojie and Meng Hao, Du Long knew that both districts' criminal investigation teams had dispatched their best officers to execute the final arrest.
On the third floor, Huang Jiehao knocked on the target's door. Until now, they still didn't know the specific details of the target, only that her name was Liu Shuiying, and she was likely a teacher.
"Coming..." A slightly low female voice came from inside. As footsteps approached, the door opened, revealing a woman in her thirties wearing a light purple sportswear set. She was tall, estimated to be at least 1.75 meters, with short hair and a slightly wide face, making her look a bit like a tomboy. She was a woman with a strong personality.
"Hello, we are the police," Huang Jiehao and Chen Boxiong showed their badges. Liu Shuiying asked in surprise, "What's the matter?"
Huang Jiehao said, "Are you Liu Shuiying? We know your QQ nickname is Autumn Water. You recently met a net friend called Blood Sky, right? We suspect this person is the suspect in two murder cases. You are in danger right now..."
Before Huang Jiehao could finish, Liu Shuiying's face turned cold, and she said, "I'm sorry, you have the wrong person."
Liu Shuiying immediately tried to close the door, but Chen Boxiong held it open and said, "Liu Shuiying, the target is a very cruel murderer. Please consider carefully and cooperate with our police operation to apprehend this murderer who has already harmed two women!"
Liu Shuiying hesitated, and Huang Jiehao seized the opportunity to persuade her, "Don't worry, it's very simple and safe. You just need to greet the suspect as you normally would. When the suspect is about to act, the police officers we have hidden in your room will immediately subdue him!"
Liu Shuiying's face turned pale, and she shook her head, "I'm sorry, I can't do it. He has already killed two people. Why don't you just arrest him directly? I... I really can't do it..."
Seeing Liu Shuiying's state, Huang Jiehao and Chen Boxiong felt very difficult. She was already this scared. When the murderer appeared in front of her, she would surely make mistakes. They had planned everything, but they hadn't considered this. If they had known, they would have chosen suitable female officers... But without knowing the target's appearance in advance, even if they had chosen female officers, they wouldn't have been able to fool the murderer.
