Du Long's words left the thugs with no way to back down. Even the lowest of the low had their pride, especially the leader among them, a large man with a beard. Seeing that Du Long had embarrassed him in front of everyone, he felt particularly humiliated and angry, shouting, "Brat, you dare to be so cocky after injuring someone? For Christ's sake, even Zhou Mazi wouldn't dare to do anything to me. Everyone, attack! Throw this kid into the river, and take the little nurse back for all of us to enjoy!"
Du Long's expression suddenly changed, and he sneered, "Good! You will pay a heavy price for your words!"
Before Du Long could finish speaking, the thugs charged forward. Ignorance is bliss, and this described these guys perfectly. Last time, when four of them had knives, Du Long wasn't afraid, let alone now when they were all unarmed.
To Du Long, the thugs' movements were like slow-motion. He moved like a tiger among sheep, striking left and right, and the thugs were thrown and kicked away, screaming in pain. The bearded man's expression changed, and he reached into his coat, pulling out a gun!
"Stop! Or I'll shoot!" The bearded man shouted, as if he had seen a ghost. He had never seen such fast movements and doubted whether he could hit Du Long even if he fired.
Du Long was worried about Ji Yunsan's safety and saw that the chances of disarming the enemy were not high, so he stopped and coldly said to the bearded man, "You're hiding a gun? I don't think you'll survive this!"
"It's you who should die!" The bearded man said through gritted teeth, "Take off your clothes and jump into the river!"
Du Long looked at him coldly. Although the bearded man was pointing a gun at him, he didn't feel any advantage. The pressure from Du Long was too great. He suddenly stepped forward, pressing the gun to Du Long's forehead and shouted, "Take them off! Or she will!"
Du Long was not surprised but rather pleased. Compared to Xia Hongjun, the bearded man's threat was much weaker. Du Long even noticed that the safety on the gun wasn't off. He smiled evilly, "Beard, have you ever used a gun? The safety isn't even off. Are you scaring a three-year-old?"
The bearded man was stunned and looked at the gun. In that instant, Du Long suddenly raised his hand, grabbed the gun, and twisted it, and the gun was in his hands in a blink. The bearded man's pupils dilated, staring at Du Long in shock, not daring to move, as Du Long pointed the gun at his head and said, "What did you say just now? Dare to say it again?"
The bearded man forced a smile, "Officer, I was just joking with you. You are a great man, don't take it to heart."
Du Long shouted without turning his head, "Stand still! Yunsan, come to me. Beard, I've already told you to get lost. Now it's too late for you to regret. Tell them all to take off their clothes and jump into the river!"
The bearded man's eyes darted around. Suddenly, he saw one of his subordinates looking pleased and giving him a nod. He knew there was a chance, and he calmed down, but he still shouted in fear, "Brother, be careful, the gun might go off. We'll give you all our money, just spare our lives."
Du Long was stunned. He saw a police car without sirens approaching. The police jumped out, drew their guns, and shouted, "Drop the gun! We are the police!"
Du Long threw the gun on the ground and said, "I am a police officer too. This is a toy gun. Please don't misunderstand, be careful of accidental discharge!"
"Are you a police officer? A police officer robbing with a toy gun? Officer Huang, you must do something for us. This kid threatened us with a gun, and we almost wet our pants!" The bearded man shouted.
The two police officers who got out of the patrol car were first-class officers. They knew the bearded man and his gang. Recently, the police had been cracking down hard in Cuihu, so these thugs had moved to this area, paying protection fees to the local authorities.
Officer Huang glared at him, put away his gun, and walked forward with a police baton, saying, "We received a report of a gun robbery here. What happened? You destroyed the evidence, trying to get away with it?"
Du Long knew these two police officers were problematic. He pulled Ji Yunsan, who was as obedient as a kitten, into his arms and said, "Have you ever seen a police officer robbing a group of thugs with his girlfriend? I don't want to make a big deal out of this. Detain them for fifteen days and be done with it."
The other police officer shouted, "Kid, are you investigating or are we? You don't look like a good person. The girl might have been forced. Old Huang, don't waste time with him. Lock him up first, and I'll gather evidence. There will definitely be his fingerprints on the gun!"
Du Long's anger flared, but he remained calm. He whispered to Ji Yunsan, "Yunsan, are you afraid? If you are, I'll take care of them right now. If not, we'll go to the police station in their patrol car."
Ji Yunsan looked at him with confidence and smiled, "I'll follow you. Wherever you go, I'll go."
Du Long's calmness made the two police officers hesitate. He goaded them, "Are you going to arrest them? If not, say so. I still have to go shopping with my girlfriend."
Old Huang couldn't back down, so he sternly said, "Kid, I suspect you of robbing with a fake gun. Please come with us for investigation!"
Du Long extended his hands and smiled, "Where are the handcuffs? How can it be called an arrest without handcuffs?"
Old Huang hesitated before handcuffing Du Long. Ji Yunsan also extended her hands, and Old Huang said, "Ladies are exempt. Get in the car!"
Before getting in the car, Du Long looked back at the bearded man and his subordinates and smiled, "I remember you. You'd better strip and swim at least a kilometer in the river before getting out. If I see you in the news, otherwise..." Du Long clicked his tongue and shook his head, then sat in the back of the 110 electric patrol car.
Old Huang felt uneasy but couldn't figure out why. They drove Du Long and Ji Yunsan back to the May 1st Police Station. Two serious-looking police officers escorted the indifferent suspect and his girlfriend, who was snuggling in his arms, into the station.
"Hey? Old Huang, you're back so soon? What did they do?" A police officer holding a cup of coffee and reading a newspaper looked up and asked.
Old Huang said sternly, "Suspected of robbing with a fake gun."
"Right, we robbed eight thugs with a fake gun. Officer Huang, you're a great storyteller!" Du Long said with a faint smile, making Old Huang want to strangle him.
"Don't listen to him. This kid is a scoundrel and doesn't tell the truth." Old Huang pushed Du Long into the interrogation room, closed the door, and said in a low voice, "Kid, who are you, and what's your background? It's best to tell me now, or else..."
Du Long sneered, "Officer Huang, you suspect me of robbing, right? Do you think I can be released just because I have connections? Since you've brought me here, you have to bear the consequences. I can tell you, my backing is the Constitution of the People's Republic of China! Is that big enough? If you're scared, call your chief. I'll expose all your dirty deals with the thugs in front of him!"
Old Huang's companion suddenly pulled out his baton and slammed it on the table, shouting, "Brat, you're being disrespectful. Old Huang, I think this kid is just putting on an act. If he had connections, he would have called someone already!"
Old Huang seemed to agree with his colleague and gestured for him to take Ji Yunsan to another room to give Du Long a lesson. The officer said to Ji Yunsan, "Miss, to prevent you from colluding, please come with me to the next room."
"I won't go," Ji Yunsan protested, "I know what you're going to do. If I leave, you'll torture my boyfriend! I won't go!"
"Yunsan, go to the next room. I want to see how they plan to deal with me," Du Long said to Ji Yunsan.
Ji Yunsan reluctantly left. Old Huang lit a cigarette and observed Du Long with a sidelong glance. As an experienced police officer, he could usually see through people, but Du Long was different. If Du Long had connections, why hadn't he revealed them yet? If he didn't, why was he so calm and even provoking him with words? Could this kid be a journalist? Was he setting a trap?
Old Huang took out a pen and began the interrogation, "What's your name?"
"Du Long," Du Long said frankly, "Du from wood and earth, Long from true dragon."
Old Huang felt the name was familiar but couldn't remember where he had heard it. As he hesitated, his colleague returned and saw Old Huang following the procedure, so he shouted, "Old Huang, what's the point of recording? This kid is slippery. If you don't give him a taste of pain, he won't be honest."
Du Long glanced at the noisy police officer and said, "Officer Xie, right? I can smell the alcohol on your breath. You must have had at least half a bottle. I remember that police officers are not allowed to drink or be drunk on duty. I suggest you sober up before we continue."
"For Christ's sake, you're still being cocky here. I can drink a thousand cups without getting drunk. A bottle of liquor is nothing. Watch me beat you to death!" Officer Xie felt Du Long's words were full of sarcasm, pulled out his baton, and struck Du Long's back. Old Huang shouted but couldn't stop him.
