Chapter 69

"Old Gao is an experienced veteran of the Public Security Brigade, with rich work experience and broad social experience. He remains calm and composed in the face of difficulties, displaying a demeanor befitting a seasoned commander. What's rare is that his martial arts and police apprehension skills are very formidable. I was originally thinking of making Old Gao the captain of the First Company, but now Director Yang has asked the Public Security Brigade to send a reliable person to work at the provincial office.

"After careful consideration, I decided to transfer Old Gao there. After all, the provincial office is a full-section-level unit, and Old Gao will be promoted to a section-level position in the security department. After two years, he can easily return to the county and become a captain without any problem." Chen Yinglong knew that after Director Yang Hua's position was confirmed, he would also be transferred to the bureau, so he needed to make arrangements for the relevant personnel in the Public Security Brigade.

"Old Gao, please take good care of Young Yang in the provincial capital. Whatever happens, prioritize his safety, understand?" Chen Yinglong had already talked to Gao Zhiyun and promised to promote him to deputy captain of the Public Security Brigade and captain of the First Company upon his return from the provincial capital. Therefore, he needed to make some things clear in person.

Gao Zhiyun was not aware of the relationship between Yang Jie and Secretary Zhou, but Chen Yinglong was. Moreover, Chen Yinglong owed a lot to Yang Jie, so he did not hesitate to speak frankly in front of Yang Jie.

"Please rest assured, Captain Chen. Even if it costs me my life, I will protect Young Yang!" Gao Zhiyun's expression was solemn as he made a resolute promise.

"Do you have a driver's license, Young Yang? In the provincial capital, travel mainly depends on driving." Chen Yinglong was very satisfied with Gao Zhiyun's response and nodded with a smile before turning to Yang Jie.

"I've always wanted to get one, but I never had the time. However, I did learn to drive from a master at the distillery. I used to drive a 212 Jeep quite often." Yang Jie understood Chen Yinglong's purpose in giving such instructions to Gao Zhiyun in front of him.

Thinking about it, he was going to the provincial capital to work, not to cause trouble or fight. What danger could there be? Even if there were dangers, Gao Zhiyun alone couldn't solve them. He was grateful for Chen Yinglong's concern but didn't want to reject his good intentions.

Chen Yinglong smiled and said, "That's easy to arrange. Here, take this car key. I'll ride with you to the traffic police bureau. If everything goes well, we'll get you a driver's license right away. It will be more convenient for you in the provincial capital."

Yang Jie took the Jetta car key from Chen Yinglong, nodded with a smile, and Gao Zhiyun, seeing that they were about to leave, hurriedly got up to say goodbye. He followed Chen Yinglong to the back yard of the Public Security Brigade, got into the Jetta that Chen Yinglong usually drove, and skillfully started the engine, shifted gears, and backed out, driving smoothly out of the Public Security Brigade toward the traffic police bureau.

"Director Yang called me yesterday and said that at the provincial office, all external business contacts are done by car. The provincial office has several dedicated vehicles. He thought that since you would often go out in the provincial capital, it would be inconvenient without a driver's license, so he asked me to contact you as soon as possible to see if I could help." Chen Yinglong explained the matter of the driver's license to Yang Jie after the car was on the main road.

Yang Jie was surprised that Yang Hua had even considered this and said with gratitude, "I really appreciate Director Yang and Brother Chen. I didn't realize that I would need to drive frequently at the provincial office. You are truly experienced; otherwise, I would have been in trouble."

"Director Yang has accompanied county leaders to the liaison office several times. There are no dedicated drivers there, so the staff drive for external business. That's why he asked me to contact you to see if you can drive and if you have a driver's license."

Sitting in the passenger seat, Chen Yinglong watched Yang Jie drive. He saw that Yang Jie was calm and composed on the road, shifting gears and changing speeds naturally, without any signs of nervousness. He changed lanes smoothly, handled the steering wheel steadily, and controlled the clutch and accelerator very well, showing no signs of being a novice.

It would be easy to help Yang Jie get a driver's license, but if his driving skills were poor, it would be like harming him. Now, seeing that Yang Jie's driving was steady and composed, with a demeanor of an experienced driver, he felt reassured.

"Your skills are pretty good! If someone didn't know, they might think you're an experienced driver." Chen Yinglong was surprised by Yang Jie's driving skills.

"One of the truck drivers at the distillery is a veteran and an experienced driver. His driving skills are very solid. I learned from him, so I can't let him down." The road was not very busy, and Yang Jie drove quickly through the city to the county traffic police bureau on National Highway 137.

The Wuh River County traffic police bureau has a driving school and a vehicle inspection station, so getting and renewing driver's licenses and vehicle inspections can be done directly in Wuh River County without having to go to Changyang City. This is why Chen Yinglong could easily arrange for Yang Jie to get a driver's license.

The Public Security Brigade and the traffic police bureau are both under the jurisdiction of Director Yang Hua. Chen Yinglong and the traffic police bureau chief, Gu Jian, are considered Yang Hua's right-hand men in the county bureau and are also good friends in private.

After directing Yang Jie to park the car in the traffic police bureau's parking lot, Chen Yinglong led him directly to the chief's office without knocking.

"Old Gu, I've brought a friend to see you today. You're treating us to lunch!" Chen Yinglong didn't hesitate to enter and introduced Yang Jie to Gu Jian, who was signing documents, with a smile: "This is Yang Jie from the county party office. He is a good friend of Director Yang and me. I'm here today to get him a driver's license."

Gu Jian initially thought Chen Yinglong was bringing a friend for some business and didn't pay much attention. But when he heard it was Yang Jie, he immediately smiled.

He stood up, greeted Yang Jie, and said, "Comrade Yang Jie, I've heard a lot about you from Director Yang, but we've never met. It's great to finally meet you. Getting a driver's license is easy, and I hope you can join us for lunch."

"Chief Gu, you're too polite. How can I let you treat me for getting a driver's license? I'll treat both of you to lunch! I'm about to go to the provincial capital, so it's also a farewell dinner." Yang Jie smiled and politely declined.

"Old Yang, it's not easy for you to come to Old Gu's place. Let him treat you. Since it's a farewell dinner, call Director Yang and invite him to join us." Chen Yinglong saw that Yang Jie was hesitant and said with a smile, making it hard for Yang Jie to refuse.

Seeing that Yang Jie agreed, Gu Jian smiled and asked Chen Yinglong to rest in the office while he took Yang Jie to get the driver's license.

Although they could take a shortcut and skip the driving lessons and formal exams, some necessary procedures still needed to be followed. First, they took a photo of Yang Jie in the registration hall, then took him to the driving school.

They had Yang Jie drive through the width-limited gate, the single-lane bridge, and the roundabout. After seeing that he had no problems, the examiner directly scored him. They then took the exam form to the traffic police bureau to process the driver's license. This was done for Yang Jie's benefit to avoid any future issues.

With the traffic police bureau chief personally guiding Yang Jie through the process, the efficiency was extremely high. From taking the photo to the road test and getting the license, it took only about an hour and a half. If not for the time spent on the urgent photo processing, it would have been even faster.

Seeing the new driver's license, Gu Jian directly gave Yang Jie a Class B license, saving him the trouble of upgrading in the future.

Seeing Yang Jie's delighted expression, Chen Yinglong smiled, took the driver's license from him, and said, "Young Yang, you look great in the photo. I can't even compare to you. I didn't look as good in my wedding photos. People really do envy each other!"

Hearing this, Gu Jian joked, "Old Chen, I heard some celebrities get plastic surgery. Why don't you try it? Maybe you'll end up looking like a celebrity!"

"Get lost! I'm not a celebrity. Why do I need to look that good?" Chen Yinglong laughed and scolded Gu Jian.

As they were joking, the phone on Gu Jian's desk suddenly rang. Gu Jian picked it up and said, "This is Gu Jian!"

"Director Yang, hello. Old Chen and Yang Jie are here with me. Yes!" Hearing that it was Yang Hua, Gu Jian immediately straightened up.

Seeing Gu Jian's expression change after hanging up, Chen Yinglong asked, "Old Gu, was that Director Yang's call? What happened?"

"Early this morning, the Wuh River police station received a report of a murder at the Wuh River distillery. The factory office director, Wang Guixi, was found dead on the path from the distillery to Yang Family Village, with thirteen stab wounds. The criminal investigation team has already been dispatched to Wuh River. Director Yang asked me to inform Yang Jie." As Gu Jian spoke, Yang Jie's face suddenly changed.
