"Move, clear the way!"
A loud shout suddenly echoed through the bustling north exit, cutting through the noise and reaching everyone's ears clearly. This was clearly not just a matter of a loud voice; it was the result of using the power of resonance to control the sound.
Who is it?
Those with some knowledge immediately sensed the extraordinary nature of the caller. Soon, a three-horse carriage came galloping down the center of the north exit road. The carriage was much wider than a regular single-horse carriage, and with the road already crowded, it was a tight fit. The person shouting to clear the way was merely the carriage driver.
No one was surprised, as everyone had already seen the prominent family crest on the carriage.
Overlapping peaks, a geographical feature of the Gorge Peak Mountains. The Wei family's crest used this feature, indicating the deep-rooted influence of the Wei family in this area. The people had long been conditioned to show deep respect, and the road was quickly cleared.
However, the carriage suddenly slowed down. The three horses walked proudly, pulling the carriage slowly down the center of the road. A person emerged from the carriage, none other than the city lord's only son, Wei Tianqi. There were many of his classmates from Gorge Peak Academy on either side, so he kept waving, greeting one and shouting another's name, enjoying the attention while trying to appear approachable and easy to deal with.
The students he greeted on both sides went out of their way to satisfy his interests, though what they thought in their hearts was anyone's guess.
Wei Tianqi stood on the carriage, looking spirited, when suddenly his expression changed. He saw a person he had hated for fifteen years in the crowd.
Lu Ping!
From the moment Wei Tianqi saw Lu Ping until now, it had been only a day. They had exchanged no more than five words, and their only physical interaction was a mutual shove, but Lu Ping was the person he had hated the most for fifteen years.
Because he was Wei Tianqi, the only son of City Lord Wei Zhong. In the Gorge Peak District and Gorge Peak City, no one had ever dared to offend him, let alone make him unhappy.
So for Wei Tianqi, it was harder to hate someone than to like them. No one had ever done anything to make him hate them.
But yesterday, it finally happened.
Lu Ping, a name he had never heard of from Zephyr Academy, had actually pushed him away during the big exam yesterday.
This had never happened before, and it made him hate Lu Ping more than ever.
Although he knew Lu Ping was strong, at least stronger than him, he was not afraid. He was the son of the city lord, and he knew very well that no one had ever made him unhappy. Was it because they feared his strength? Of course not. They feared his status, his background, and the immense power of the entire Wei family in the Gorge Peak District.
Status, background, power... all these things together made one truly powerful. How strong could one be with just personal strength?
So, Lu Ping was strong, but only in terms of skill. As for himself, his skill might be weaker, but he had status, background, and the power of an entire family. In Wei Tianqi's eyes, he was stronger, far stronger than Lu Ping.
So he was not afraid, nor should he be.
This is what Wei Tianqi told himself. But the problem was that yesterday, when Lu Ping pushed him away and walked straight up to him, Wei Tianqi was afraid. He was really afraid. At that moment, he suddenly felt that his status, background, and power could not help him. The unprecedented panic and helplessness made him deeply uneasy, and this was not something he could forget after just one night.
And now, he saw Lu Ping again. He was squeezed in the crowd, looking no different from anyone else.
"Stop!" Wei Tianqi said to the driver, and the carriage immediately came to a steady stop.
Wei Tianqi jumped off the carriage and walked forward. People instinctively made way for him, and soon he was behind Lu Ping.
Lu Ping was still choosing a horse.
"This one is good," he was pointing to a horse with a mixed coat.
"A bit ugly," Su Tang said.
"That's not important," Lu Ping said.
"How did you see that it's good?" Mo Lin asked.
"Cough, cough!" Wei Tianqi coughed loudly.
Lu Ping and Mo Lin turned around, glanced at him, and then turned back to continue analyzing the horse.
Wei Tianqi was stunned, not angry, but stunned.
Because he really didn't expect to be ignored?
Fortunately, he wasn't completely ignored. Xi Fan, who also turned around, finally recognized him.
"Little City Lord," Xi Fan greeted him. Everyone now called him that, and the "little" would probably be dropped when his father, Wei Zhong, was no longer around.
At least someone acknowledged him, which made Wei Tianqi feel a bit better. But soon he heard the guy in the straw hat, who had ignored him, laugh loudly: "Little City Lord? Xi Fan, you still like naming animals? But what a stupid name!"
Silence.
Lu Ping and Mo Lin, who were seriously discussing the horse, immediately sensed something was wrong. Noticing Su Tang's warning look, they turned around again. They saw a pair of eyes that were almost spitting fire.
"Uh, this is Wei Tianqi, the city lord's only son," Xi Fan introduced him seriously. He knew that if he didn't introduce him, these two might still not know who he was.
"Oh..." Mo Lin said with a long "oh."
Lu Ping just nodded and then looked at Wei Tianqi. "What's up?"
"You... don't recognize me?" Wei Tianqi thought the other person was pretending, but Lu Ping's expression was very serious, serious enough to make him doubt.
"Uh..." Lu Ping thought hard, and fortunately, Su Tang leaned in and whispered a reminder in his ear.
"Oh." Lu Ping suddenly understood.
"An obstacle," he said.
Wei Tianqi's face turned green. He was just an... obstacle?
"What's up?" Lu Ping asked again.
"What do you think?" Wei Tianqi glared at Lu Ping.
Lu Ping thought for a moment and understood.
"Are you here to apologize? Don't worry about it, it's all in the past, and you didn't really affect me," Lu Ping said.
"You... you..." Wei Tianqi was so angry he couldn't speak. Everyone around them also thought Lu Ping was mocking Wei Tianqi, wanting to laugh but not daring to.
"Ha ha..." But someone laughed.
"Who!" Wei Tianqi heard the laughter and was furious, but when he turned around and saw the person, he was stunned.
"Big Brother Ming," Wei Tianqi called out.
Wei Ming was just one of the twelve guards in the city lord's mansion, but the city lord's only son called him "brother," indicating his status in the mansion was not that of a mere servant.
"Little City Lord," Wei Ming addressed Wei Tianqi with impeccable respect.
But when his gaze shifted to Lu Ping, his expression changed completely. He was expressionless, as if the person in front of him was not worth a single expression.
"The horse you chose is good?" Wei Ming said.
"Yes!" Lu Ping nodded, turned back, and stroked the horse's head. The horse seemed to enjoy it, shaking its head and rubbing against Lu Ping's hand.
"Indeed!" Wei Ming responded, then suddenly raised his hand.
Mo Lin felt a breeze pass by him, and he instinctively turned around.
The horse's head seemed to lower, hanging lower and lower under Lu Ping's hand, and then suddenly fell to the ground with a thud.
Squirt!
Blood spurted from the horse's neck, splattering Lu Ping, who was still holding his hand in the air, covering him in blood. The horse then fell heavily to the ground.
"But it's dead," Wei Ming said.
After saying that, he pointed at the carriage driver, who had been scared stiff. The driver, seeing his gesture, suddenly remembered something and screamed, crouching on the ground, covering his head.
"Go to the city lord's mansion, and we'll pay you ten times the price of the horse," Wei Ming said, ignoring the driver's reaction.
He then looked at Wei Tianqi, still with impeccable respect.
"Little City Lord, let's go!"
"Huh?" The scene in front of him made Wei Tianqi a bit dazed. After a moment, he came to his senses.
"Let's go." He turned and walked to his three-horse carriage, with Wei Ming following behind.
Before getting into the carriage, Wei Tianqi couldn't help but look back. Lu Ping was still standing there, his hand raised, covered in blood, still in a daze. The carriage driver, however, was overjoyed after realizing he would be paid ten times the price of the horse and ran off happily.
"Little City Lord, please sit down, we need to get going," the carriage driver said to Wei Tianqi.
"Okay," Wei Tianqi responded and got into the carriage.
The hooves kicked up dust on the straight, flat road, and the carriage quickly disappeared from everyone's sight.
