Molin.
Mosen's nephew. The Mo family, like the Zhaofeng Academy among the many academies, was an unremarkable family among the countless families on the continent. They had no astonishing bloodline, nor any vast family business. They had no unified business plan for the family's future; they were more like an ordinary large family, with no family reputation to bear. Each person lived their own life, and the only connection between them was the bloodline, nothing more.
Mosen was the gardener at Zhaofeng Academy, while Molin was an assassin, or rather, a killer. Mosen had been worried from the beginning that he would not be able to handle the dirty work, so he called his nephew, who was a killer, to help. Now, it seemed that the saying "specialization is the key to success" was not without reason.
"Where is the person you want to kill?" After the pleasantries, Molin immediately wanted to start his work, cherishing every moment.
"There he is." Mosen pointed to the small wooden house behind Molin.
"There's no one there now." Molin demonstrated his professional skills. He had already scouted the area before he arrived.
"Yes." Mosen said.
"This makes things easier." Molin said, immediately turning around and walking briskly to the window of the small wooden house. The window was high, and Molin had already confirmed the situation inside, so he didn't look again. He grabbed the windowsill with both hands and tried to climb up, but his professional demeanor was about to be lost.
"Uncle, come help me!" Molin called out. After two attempts, he slid down helplessly and had to ask for help from his relatives.
Mosen was helpless. If he had to describe the Mo family's bloodline with a characteristic, poor physical fitness would be the most fitting. Unfortunately, this was a flaw, not a powerful ability, and such a label was better off not existing.
Mosen looked around to make sure no one was there, then hurriedly went to help. Finally, he managed to get Molin into the house. He then heard Molin, who had entered the house, call out in frustration, "Who is this? Why didn't they lock the door when they left?"
Mosen felt a bit disheartened. He only knew that his nephew was involved in this kind of work, but he didn't know how skilled he was. At first, he felt quite reassured, but now, he wasn't so sure.
"Stop talking. How do you plan to do it?" Mosen stood outside the window, trying to see what Molin was doing inside.
"Very simple." Molin had already started his work. He came to the bed, took out a pair of tweezers with his right hand, and carefully extracted a needle from a small leather pouch sewn inside his left garment.
"This is a toxin I extracted from oleander and white nightshade. The amount on this needle is enough to poison an entire grade at Zhaofeng Academy. Now..." Molin said as he carefully inserted the needle into the mattress, then stepped back to look at it, nodding in satisfaction.
Without asking, Mosen already knew what Molin's plan was. Simple, but very practical. Who would notice a hidden needle in the mattress? Even Mosen, with his sixth-level Chongzhi魄 (Spirit of Momentum), couldn't detect it.
"Uncle, help me." Molin called out from the window, asking Mosen to help him climb out.
"Not through the door?" Mosen asked.
"It's better not to leave any unnecessary traces." Molin said, already halfway out of the window.
The plan was practical, and the consideration was thorough. But the clumsy window climbing completely ruined the assassin's aura. Fortunately, Mosen was family and could understand Molin's difficulties. If it were another client, they would have already lost faith in the assassin.
"I'll come back in the middle of the night to retrieve the needle, and then we'll wait for the body to be collected!" Molin said, straightening his clothes that had been disheveled from climbing out the window.
"Be careful when you leave." Mosen warned. No matter how tolerant Zhaofeng Academy was, they wouldn't take a student's death lightly. The academy would thoroughly investigate, and a stranger like Molin would easily raise suspicion.
"Don't worry, Uncle. When I come back to retrieve the needle, I'll cover my tracks. No one will know he died of unnatural causes." Molin smiled confidently, and without the clumsy window climbing, his assassin's aura returned. He then walked in a direction where no one was around and soon disappeared from Mosen's sight.
Is it over now? Mosen looked back at the small wooden house after Molin left. The flower bed he loved the most would soon be free of that annoying presence. But as he thought about it, he realized he wasn't as excited as he had been when designing the viewing pavilion in the morning. His mood seemed to become a bit heavy.
"I hope Su Tang won't be too sad..." Mosen thought, then began to tend to the flowers and plants, the only things that could calm his heart.
In the middle of the night.
A few stars hung in the sky, but for a Chongzhi魄 (Spirit of Momentum) at the second level, this light was enough to discern everything.
A figure moved quietly through the flower bed, and occasionally, footsteps could be heard, but they coincided with the rustling of the wind through the flowers.
If it were a Mingzhi魄 (Spirit of Sound) at a high level, they might have been able to distinguish the difference, but Molin knew that the person in the small wooden house had no perception, and he was already dead.
Even so, Molin still moved as quietly as possible to the window, then crouched down and placed two stepping stones under the window.
This was a bit unsightly, but Molin was quite helpless with his body. He envied those with excellent physical abilities, who could move like the wind. But the Mo family's bodies were just that sluggish in terms of physical strength.
There was no choice but to rely more on intelligence to solve problems.
Molin stepped on the two stepping stones and put his hands on the windowsill. Although it was darker inside, even a little light was enough for a Chongzhi魄 (Spirit of Momentum) at the second level to see clearly.
Molin saw the target lying motionless on the bed, but at that moment, his more powerful and sensitive sixth-level Shuzhi魄 (Spirit of Perception) gave him more precise information.
No!
The temperature was wrong.
Although he hadn't touched the target, Molin could already feel the body temperature from that distance. It was the middle of the night, and unless the person had just fallen asleep, a dead person for half the night couldn't have such a temperature.
The situation was a bit off. Should he confirm further, or...
Molin was still hesitating, but the figure on the bed moved.
Flash!
Molin was on high alert, though he was still hesitating, he didn't let his guard down. As soon as the figure on the bed moved slightly, he immediately sensed it and ran without hesitation.
Why didn't the poison needle work? Was it discovered?
Molin had absolute confidence in the toxin he had prepared. The target being unharmed could only mean one thing: he wasn't hit.
Molin didn't look back as he ran, but he listened to the sounds behind him. His Shuzhi魄 (Spirit of Perception) was the strongest, reaching the sixth level, and once it connected with the Yingzhi魄 (Spirit of Wisdom), he would reach the realm of a Connector, with even greater abilities. Besides that, his other five spirits, except for the Liuzhi魄 (Spirit of Strength), were also at certain levels. His Mingzhi魄 (Spirit of Sound) had already reached the third level, and at this distance, no sound could escape his ears.
He got up... got out of bed... came to the window... jumped out!
A heavy landing sound echoed behind him, and the target had actually come out to chase him.
Molin couldn't help but look back. The useless waste that his uncle Mosen had described didn't seem so useless. At least he had courage, though Molin found it foolish.
Even with poor physical fitness and a weak Liuzhi魄 (Spirit of Strength), the Mo family had many combat skills as perception users. Compared to ordinary people, they were on a completely different level. This guy, with no spirit power at all, dared to come out and chase him. This was probably what they called "ignorance is bliss"!
Without perception, this kid had no idea how strong and terrifying his target was.
Should he kill him directly?
No...
Although Molin had the ability, Mosen had repeatedly emphasized that it had to look like an accident, one that others would see as a natural death.
"Never thought I'd have to use my backup plan to deal with an ordinary person." Molin muttered to himself.
