She could feel Klaus’s distant feelings when she closed the door and entered.
‘Wait a minute! What the hell happened?’
Meriel dashed to her bed and jumped. She finally calmed down after burying her face in her pillow and moving with all her might, as if hitting water with a sledgehammer.
“Why is he doing this yesterday and today?”
She tried to keep her cool, not letting her blushing face show. She was relieved that he had invited her to dinner after such a long time. She even danced to lighthearted music after that.
She’d never danced at a ball before, so all she had to do was move reflexively to his tune. That was enjoyable as well because he matched her stride and supported her back. However, following the dance, he held out a rose.
She thought it was a fun event until he shoved a flower in her ear.
“What was he thinking when he put a flower in my ear?”
Even hitting the pillow had no effect.
Her attention was drawn to a candy basket lying beautifully on one side. She could simply go see Eirin tomorrow to find out why they did that. Meriel was unable to stand Klaus’ manner.
“I tried to act foolish by putting flowers and eating candy before.”
She was angry at Eirin for giving him incorrect information.
Obviously, he did it without malice, but the band that was playing at their dinner also bowed their heads slightly, reading the air. Klaus may not have realized it, but the moment the rose was placed in Meriel’s ear, both of their faces lowered.
‘Mocking me for being an idiot.’
It was quite absurd, but he appeared to be enjoying himself while professing something very sweet. She knew he was looking at her lovingly, but his eyes were emotionless.
So she entered the bedroom with a flower in her ear. His firm grip on her hand was pleasant, but today’s absurd event was not. Meriel abandoned her plans to spend the night with him and went into her bedroom alone.
She sighed as she removed the rose that had become lodged in her ear. There was no way Eirin would intentionally convey such information. She most likely has no idea what she likes. He must have gotten the information before coming here when she was still playing a fool.
Klaus and Bran were the ones who misunderstood her information. Meriel pushed her thoughts to one side of her head and organized them.
* Sigh
After all, the people of the Grand Duke Castle are well aware that Meriel is not an idiot. No one reminded her of her days as a foolish princess, despite the fact that she recounted them. Those who treated her as a fool have already been expelled from the grand duke’s palace, whether it’s a mouse or a bird.
Not long after she arrived, Grand Duke Klaus, without her knowledge, expelled those who disliked her. The grand duke’s palace was already united when she arrived, as if it were a gathering of people who adored Meriel.
As a result, she became more concerned.
Meriel was already grateful for her candy gift and moved by the rose flower Klaus had placed in her ear. She didn’t want to know who else would bring her another gift later.
“Eirin……”
It wasn’t Eirin’s fault, but she had to meet with her tomorrow to correct her mistakes. However, even before Meriel could act, rumors about her began to circulate.
Everyone in the Grand Duke’s palace heard the news before sunrise. Meriel went to Eirin’s shop the next day, unaware of this.
“Oh! Greetings, Your Grace.”
Eirin greeted Meriel with a friendly smile. Eirin took out a teacup when she noticed Meriel was tired.
“What’s the matter? You look tired, Your Grace.”
“Yeah, I had some work… …” Meriel, sighing in her seat, motioned to Bran.
“We’re going to talk about girls, so hang out for a while.”
“What? But……”
“What? You want to listen in on women’s private conversations?”
“….I’ll be right out, Your Grace.”
As Bran walked out the door, his head bowed sullenly, Meriel shook her head.
“You’re good at dealing with Bran.” Eirin made a comment.
“Doesn’t a lady who can’t handle him have something wrong with her?”
“That’s correct.” Eirin smiled and poured the tea into a cup for Meriel to relieve her fatigue.
Meriel sighed as she inhaled the fragrant scent.
“Did you look into me?” She spoke up first, before Eirin could ask her a question.
“Oh? Did you already know?”
“Can you tell me what information you passed on?”
“Ummm…… I couldn’t find anything relevant, Your Grace.”
“How come you didn’t just say there wasn’t?”
“There are men who are eagerly awaiting information.”
“All you could say about me was that I always had flowers in my hair and candy in my hands when I lived in the capital.”
*Sigh
Meriel sipped her tea while ruffling her hair.
“I heard the flowers and candy at the market were sold out, is this my fault?”
“It’s possible.” Eirin responded, feeling powerless.
“My goodness!”
Eirin smiled while covering her mouth slightly. Meriel was aware that she had foreseen it. Because her childhood buddy couldn’t have known Klaus’s divisive personality.
“However, I’m relieved it’s just those two things.”
“Do you have anything else?” Meriel inquired, intrigued.
“Isn’t the Grand Duchess aware of this?”
Meriel remembered her time in the Imperial Palace. She liked to wear different colored shoes and to walk around with her dolls.
“Oh please.” She vigorously shook her head.
“I’m sorry, I only mentioned candy to Bran, but to the Grand Duke……” Eirin said as she clasped her hands together.
“I’m going to despise you.”
“Please forgive me, Your Grace.”
Meriel let out a deep sigh as she noticed her talking while wrinkling one of her eyes.
