Bai Weijin walked home with a dazed look. She hit pedestrians several times and left in a hurry without apologizing. There were a lot of vituperations, however, Bai Weijin didn’t care about them anymore.
“Mom, what’s wrong with this sister…”
“She is in a bad mood.”
Behind Bai Weijin came a child’s voice. Bai Weijin sneered in her heart, and just kept walking forward. ‘How did I become like this? Even passers-by feel that I have lost my mind. Maybe I am abandoned by everyone…’
Even him…
The one that she thought would always support her.
Suddenly a small fleshy hand stretched out behind her and grabbed her. She turned her head and met a pair of angelic eyes.
It was said that the color of one’s pupil would gradually fade with age, so children’s eyes would always be brighter than those of adults who had gone through a lot in this world. In front of Bai Weijin, the plump child had a pair of bright eyes, which were as dark as obsidian. The little boy hadn’t experienced all kinds of hardships. The moment Bai Weijin looked at him, she felt as if she was lost in a starry sky and could not see her way back.
In Bai Weijin’s trance, the little boy stuffed something into her hand. He looked up and smiled at Bai Weijin.
“Sister, don’t be sad. You see, this is what my teacher gave me as a reward. My teacher said that people who eat this candy will always be happy. Sister, be happy!”
Bai Weijin nodded gratefully, and then the little boy ran away. Bai Weijin bowed her head, with a piece of ordinary fruit-flavored candy in her hand. She held it tightly and carefully and hurried home. Bai Weijin was afraid that she could not help crying.
Gu Yeze was not here. The house was quiet and empty, and Bai Weijin was the only one in the huge house. All the negative emotions overwhelmed her all of a sudden, leaving her out of breath.
There was a small package conspicuously placed on the table. Bai Weijin sighed and picked it up. The recipient was her. Bai Weijin had no impression of this package, so she hesitated about whether to open it or not. But she still opened it. Bai Weijin already had a vague premonition.
Seeing the objects inside, Bai Weijin shivered. As if someone had violently tugged at her hair, her hands shook uncontrollably. Then she threw the box to the ground.
Scattered all over the ground were photos of Tan Xin and Gu Yeze.
The two embraced and the two kissed with their backs to the camera. Gu Yeze looked down gently at Tan Xin, who was only a little shorter than Gu Yeze. Gu Yeze’s eyes were full of tenderness.
Gu Yeze tucked Tan Xin’s hair behind her ear, and Tan Xin looked up at him; Gu Yeze handed Tan Xin the steak cut into small pieces, and Tan Xin smiled; Gu Yeze took Tan Xin to run on the road, and the photo’s background was the familiar path in front of the door…
Gu Yeze! Gu Yeze! It was all him!
But, the one by Gu Yeze’s side was not Bai Weijin, but Tan Xin who made Bai Weijin quite nervous.
‘What happened between them?’
Looking at these photos, Bai Weijin knew that Tan Xin and Gu Yeze had been in love. Tan Xin was perfect and won the favor of Gu’s family. But why didn’t they get married? Why did Gu Yeze choose Bai Weijin?
Bai Weijin knelt down on the ground, flipping through those photos like crazy. One, two, three… Each of these photos pierced her heart deeply and each of them showed how much they loved each other when they were together. Bai Weijin always thought that she was special and different in Gu Yeze’s eyes. She used to be glad and happy, but now, the photos on the ground proved that she was wrong. These photos were like the merciless mockery from the reality.
The candy in the shape of a paper crane was still held in Bai Weijin’s hand. The original smooth candy paper was a little crumpled after being rubbed in her hand for a long time. She removed the candy paper using her trembling hands. Then Bai Weijin still put the hard candy which was melted a little bit due to her body temperature into her mouth.
The tip of Bai Weijin’s tongue felt the taste first. It was slightly sour and sweet, and most of the time it tasted sour — the sourness was not unbearable and was tinged with some sweetness. The more she tried to feel the sweetness, the less she felt it. In the end, only a trace of bitterness was left in her mouth, which made Bai Weijin recall the past. Bai Weijin couldn’t help feeling sad.
It was like the taste of love.
Finally, Bai Weijin couldn’t help but sob.
‘Gu Yeze, you are such an asshole.’
Gu Yeze was sitting in his car, rubbing his eyebrow. He looked at the passing scenery outside the car window, hesitating about what to do. Under normal circumstances, he should have arrived home now. However, due to an unexpected incident, he had to inspect himself. What worried him most now was whether he should tell Bai Weijin or not.
He picked up the phone and put it down, again and again. The unreasonable and cold woman might be waiting for him at home. But considering yesterday’s embarrassment and Bai Weijin’s sudden anger, Gu Yeze, who had always been decisive, now was at a loss.
‘Forget it! Let her calm down.’ Gu Yeze sighed and put away his phone. Sometimes it was better to give each other a chance to calm down. Gu Yeze had spared no efforts to win the icy beauty’s heart, only to find that Bai Weijin was just a little girl who was soft and sensitive.
Thinking about it, Gu Yeze closed his eyes and snarled fiercely in his heart. Women were really troublesome. Until now, Gu Yeze didn’t figure out why Bai Weijin was so angry with him.
Bai Weijin estimated that Gu Yeze was about to come home, so she tidied up the things on the ground and put them back on the table calmly. She wanted to talk to Gu Yeze peacefully. Bai Weijin didn’t care about where the photos came from anymore. Now she only cared about what the hell Gu Yeze wanted to do. She wanted to know whether Gu Yeze had ever loved her, even a little.
Bai Weijin would never lower herself. Once Gu Yeze decided to break up, she would definitely not pester him. After all, their marriage was just a show, and there was no need to take it seriously.
But why did Bai Weijin feel a piercing pain in her heart? Bai Weijin’s eyes were dull and she wanted to cry, but she suppressed the tears. God refused to leave her anyone that she could rely on. First, her mother died. Then, her father was seriously ill. Now, even Gu Yeze, who had always stood behind her and silently supported her, would leave.
Both Bai Weijin and Gu Yeze were masters of acting, but Bai Weijin was not as skilled as Gu Yeze since she now truly had feelings for the man.
Bai Weijin gave a wry smile. She could only rely on herself now.
Bai Weijin sat on the sofa without turning on any lamp. As night fell, she sat in the dark, waiting for Gu Yeze.
She didn’t know how long she had been waiting. For Bai Weijin, time seemed to stand still. By the pale moonlight, she looked at the clock on the wall.
Unknowingly, it was already 11 pm.
Bai Weijin smiled bitterly. She blinked her dry eyes and felt sore, so she decided not to look at the time. Even though she knew Gu Yeze might not come back, she was still waiting, with her eyes closed.
It seemed as if a century had passed. When a beam of daylight fell onto Bai Weijin’s face which was pale for staying up, Bai Weijin opened her red eyes and smiled bitterly.
‘That’s it! Gu Yeze, you won by default.’
