Tan Xin thought for a while and managed a smile. Then she looked around.
‘Fortunately, there are no other people. I can deal with him.’
“I… I’m a friend of his daughter.” She looked flustered.
“Are you his attending physician?”
Her fine appearance successfully lowered the man’s guard. He returned her smile, “I’ve been observing his condition. Congratulations on his improved health”.
“Oh, thank you for curing him…” Disappointed, Tan Xin made a few causal remarks.
The doctor shook his head, “Credit mainly goes to Dr. Xing, an experienced doctor. Besides, Mr. Bai cooperates fully with us, or neither of us can heal him”.
Meanwhile, the man leaned towards Tan Xin in an attempt to make advances to her.
Tan Xin noticed that and carefully avoided his hand. Sickened, she still wore a smile on her face.
Tan Xin didn’t like those who drooled over her, but she also knew people of this kind were quite easy to use for her own ends.
“Thank you for all the trouble you’ve taken. Doctor, are you free now? Can we have a talk somewhere else?”
The doctor soon stared at her with greedy eyes, as if he understood her hint. He nodded repeatedly, “Of course we can. This way, please”.
They sat face to face at the desk in his office.
Once they entered the room, Tan Xin was much less enthusiastic, her face falling.
“What can I do for you, miss?”
Tan Xin just took out a check from her LV purse. The amount was so considerable that many were unable to earn it all their life.
She smiled and handed it to the doctor who was staring at her slender legs. “Please accept this as a small token of my appreciation.”
The man took the cheque and was astonished by the number. He looked up at Tan Xin’s smiling face and reconfirmed the figure again in disbelief.
“What… what’s that for?” Trembling with fear, the man wanted to return the check to Tan Xin, though he held it in a firm grip, “No, I can’t accept it”.
Tan Xin replied with a grin, “Don’t worry. Just take it”.
She looked the doctor in the eye and gave a nod. He was terrified.
The doctor cast a look at the cheque and withdrew his hand, “Too much. I didn’t help a lot… can’t take it”.
“Please,” Tan Xin stopped him, “Besides, you can be of great help to me”.
The doctor heaved a sigh as if relieved of a heavy burden, hurriedly putting the check into his pocket, “As long as there is anything I can help”.
“You said it!” Tan Xin’s smile froze. She thought of the pale man lying on the bed, “How’s Bai Hongbo?”
“He’s on the mend and will recover soon.” The doctor thought she wanted him to take good care of Bai Hongbo and hurriedly showed he was willing to.
“You can rest assured that I will do my best to look after Mr. Bai.”
Tan Xin raised her eyebrows, and the smile on her face vanished. She showed a fierce look on her face, “You seem to misunderstand me.”
“Uh? I misunderstand you? You mean…” The doctor was shocked by her coldness. He couldn’t imagine the angel-like lass could suddenly become a devil. A sudden chill ran over him.
He was not stupid enough to miss her meaning but greatly astonished by her way of talking about life.
Totally unperturbed, the beautiful woman seemed to talk about daily routines instead of a murder. How terrifying she was! Familiar with life and death, the doctor was even filled with dread at the moment.
“Yeah, that’s exactly what I mean.” Tan Xin gave a gentle smile, which was so bright that it could even light up the whole room.
Totally different from the dreadful woman she had been just now.
“I’ve got to go. Doctor, you can take the cheque and think it over. This is my card. Call me when you come around.”
Tan Xin reached out her delicate hand and gave the doctor one business card.
Tan Xin.
‘A good name. Just as good as her appearance. What a pity.’
The doctor looked at Tan Xin, his body trembling. ‘How come such a beauty is as vicious as a viper?’
“Hold on.”
Just before Tan Xin stepped out of the office, the doctor opened his mouth.
“I’m in.”
Surprised, Tan Xin turned around and looked at the doctor. She didn’t expect he would agree on it so soon.
A course of chemotherapy was arranged for Bai Hongbo in the afternoon. Well-prepared, the doctors and nurses stretchered Bai Hongbo into the sterile operating room.
No one waited outside. Bai Weijin was not present.
Tan Xin hid at the corner to see what would happen, until the doctor turned away and gave her a nod.
Completely unaware of it, Dr. Xing and the nurses were still busy with the operation.
A smug smile appeared on Tan Xin’s face. She walked away, poised and elegant.
She didn’t even care when her jealousy killed one person. That was her.
To get what she wanted, she’d stop at nothing.
Bai Hongbo might be innocent, but his daughter did marry the man she loved.
…
“Mr. Gu, things looked bleak when we did the operation this evening. Mr. Bai has taken a turn for the worse. Shall we inform your wife?”
The operation was over. Dr. Gong made a phone call to Gu Yeze even before he took off his surgical suit.
Gu Yeze’d got a lot on his mind.
“Why are you telling me this?” He sounded impatient.
“I…”
His words baffled Dr. Xing. It was Gu Yeze that asked him to inform him first of any emergency before telling Mrs. Gu. Why did he change his mind so soon?
Seconds later, his phone rang. Dr. Xing picked up the phone.
“What happened? There shouldn’t be anything wrong.” Gu Yeze asked with a black face. He refused to admit he regretted saying those words.
Yet he still called over.
Dr. Xing’s face grew grave, for he also felt something was wrong in the operating room.
