With a gloomy expression on his face, Hou Mingde stared at the brightly lit ward Bai Hongbo lived, exactly not resigned to the result.

He was clear that if he could cure Bai Hongbo and find favor with Gu Yeze, what he would get was more than a mere promotion.

Yet his involvement in Tan Xin’s plot ruined his prospects.

Taking a deep breath, Hou Mingde intended to inform Tan Xin and to get the rest of his reward back.

It was no use crying over spilt milk. He decided to ask Tan Xin for the pay she had promised.

“What?” Tan Xin could hardly believe it, “You said Bai Weijin has known about you?”

“Yes,” replied Hou Mingde, “Well, I’ve done what you asked me to, so the remaining half of the money…”

Greedy people were indeed easy to use.

With a sneer, Tan Xin replied, “You are supposed to have killed Bai Hongbo.”

“Have you finished your task?”

Hou Mingde immediately turned pale with rage. ‘It seems that she will not fulfill her promise.’

‘Luckily, I’m fully prepared.’

“Do you know I’m recording?”

Given that each of them used the other for his or her own ends, it was natural that Hou Mingde never placed his trust in Tan Xin and even made some preparations in case she went back on her word.

Instead of getting flustered, Tan Xin remained indifferent.

“Do you think I have no proof that you schemed against Bai Hongbo?”

“If you still love your job, watch your tongue.”

Busy tones came. Hou Mingde looked bitterly at the end of the corridor, as if hoping to dismember Tan Xin.

‘Tan Xin, you’d better pray that I won’t get the goods on you.’

‘Or I’ll make you pay!’

Over the next few days, Bai Weijin had been at Bai Hongbo’s bedside, which worried Dr. Xing a lot.

‘It will wear her down.’

As expected, on the fifth day, Bai Weijin was suddenly taken ill due to a lack of rest.

“What? Say it again!”

The whole office rang with Gu Yeze’s roar. Even those in the hall could hear it clearly, all given a good scare.

‘Who on earth annoyed him? How dare he!’

Seeing Gu Yeze lose control of himself, Tan Xin gave him a worried look and asked.

“Gu Yeze, what’s wrong with you? Anything happened?”

Gu Yeze was filled with rage at the sight of the culprit who led to his quarrel with Bai Weijin.

“Mind your own business!”

“Keep your hands off my business!”

Then he stormed out of the room, despite Tan Xin’s furious look.

The door to Gu Yeze’s office was always open, and what had happened right here naturally met the eyes of other employees.

Some girls who hated Tan Xin couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Compared with Bai Weijin, Tan Xin was much less popular in Gu’s. After all, she took up the senior position as soon as she worked in Gu’s and even tried to seduce their president.

Only shameless people would do such shameful things.

“Don’t look at me!” Tan Xin flew into a rage, yelling, “Or you’ll get a salary cut.”

Finally, the crowd stopped gossiping.

Gu Yeze hurried to the hospital. He pushed the door open, only to find that Bai Weijin, as white as a sheet, quietly lay on the bed like a sleeping beauty.

Inexplicably, his heart twitched.

“What’s wrong with her?” Gu Yeze turned away, asking the doctor.

“It doesn’t matter. She was completely exhausted and just needs a good rest.” The doctor paused before continuing, “Now she’s in frail health. When she wakes up, you’d better persuade her not to work hard.”

“She’s been run-down recently.”

Having said that, the doctor left quietly and left the space for the couple.

Gu Yeze reached out his hand to touch Bai Weijin’s cheeks, while they felt hard. Gu Yeze frowned.

‘Is she so weak now?’

Then the towels and the basin left by the carer came into sight. Gu Yeze started to consider wiping her body with the towel.

He always acted speedily. With the basin in his hands, Gu Yeze went to the bathroom to fetch the water, when two nurses came along the corridor.

“Mr. Gu, tell us if there is anything we can help with.”

“You don’t need to do it yourself.”

The nurse looked alarmed. How could she not be? The owner of the hospital did it by himself.

‘What if he complains about our service?’

“I can handle this,” he replied, “You can leave me along.”

The two nodded subserviently and hurried away.

Watching their receding figures, Gu Yeze was lost in thought. ‘Am I so terrifying?’

With a basin of water, Gu Yeze returned to Bai Weijin’s ward, gently lifting her quilt to help wipe her body.

The buttons were undone one by one.

As his hand nearly touched her chest, Bai Weijin suddenly made a sound.

“Hmm…”

Gu Yeze was at a loss, his hands freezing.

‘Why am I feeling guilty? She’s my wife.’

Before he made up his mind, Bai Weijin’s voice came again.

“No… Don’t leave me…”

“Mommy…”

Bai Weijin seemed to have had a nightmare. Her brows furrowed, and her forehead broke out in a cold sweat. She unconsciously grasped the quilt, as if trying to hold something.

Gu Yeze didn’t catch what she said at the very beginning, so he came closer to Bai Weijin, hoping to hear her mutter.

“Don’t leave me…”

This time her voice became much clearer and with a sad touch.

“I won’t leave you.”

Gu Yeze had no idea what to say, so he just repeated that, in the hope that the words might give her some comfort.

Next second, something odd happened.

Bai Weijin appeared to have dreamed of something. She reached out her arms and embraced Gu Yeze, pressing his head to her chest.

Gu Yeze’s expression softened.

‘What… What is she doing?’
