‘Damn it… Still a little short…’

Bai Weijin covered her stomach, fixing the “doctor” with a reluctant gaze. ‘I was close to the truth…’

“Don’t look me like that.”

“But for her order, you’d be a dead body now.”

His cold voice rang in Bai Weijin’s ears. ‘She? Who the hell is she?’

The building then echoed with screams of the nurses. Bai Weijin could hear nothing but wearily stared at the receding figure of the man.

Suddenly, Hou Mingde’s voice came again.

“Tan… Tan Xin…”

He almost said the word with all his strength.

‘He said ‘Tan Xin’?’ Bai Weijin wanted to confirm it, but she immediately fainted from excessive loss of blood.

“Bai Weijin! Bai Weijin!”

“Wake up! Don’t leave me!”

‘Is it Gu Yeze’s voice? How come? He must look forward to watching me die…’

Faced with the completely unconscious woman, Gu Yeze’s heart was in his mouth. ‘She was just out of my sight for several minutes.’

‘How it happened?’

“Doctor!” Gu Yeze shouted, “Hurry here, quick!”

What happened here astonished the whole hospital. Dr. Xing rushed over, frowning at the sight of bloody Bai Weijin and Hou Mingde.

He put his finger under Bai Weijin’s nose and then breathed a sigh of relief. ‘Good, she’s still breathing.’

“Give me a hand,” ordered the doctor, “She needs a surgery.”

After the nurses stretchered Bai Weijin into the operating room, Dr. Xing squatted down to check how badly Hou Mingde was injured.

As soon as he reached out his fingers, Gu Yeze kicked his hand away.

Painfully covering his fingers, Dr. Xing slightly frowned, questioning him, “Gu Yeze, what do you want to do?”

“He deserves more than a death!” Gu Yeze ordered the doctor, “Hurry to operate on her!”

“I am a doctor!” Dr. Xing was angry. It was the first time that he spoke to Gu like this.

“It’s my duty to heal the wounded! Even if the one is a criminal, I cannot leave him alone!”

Dr. Xing’s roar brought Gu Yeze to reason. He was also surprised that he should behave like this.

‘How can I say such words?’

In case of losing face, Gu Yeze made no apology but said, “Send someone to do the surgery,” and left.

Watching his receding figure, Dr. Xing couldn’t help but let out a sigh. ‘How many times have he lost his mind for the woman?’

He briefed others on the situation and stepped towards the operating room to make preparation for Bai Weijin’s surgery.

Gu Yeze anxiously waited at the door, along with Bai Hongbo who sat in a wheelchair.

The door of the operating room opened. Dr. Xing walked out.

Gu Yeze hurried forward, asking, “How’s she?’

“The patient has lost much blood and needs a blood transfusion,” Dr. Xing said, “Her blood type is AB, so people with each blood group can help.”

Without much thinking, Gu Yeze extended his arm and said, “Use mine.”

The doctor frowned yet had to agree.

People with AB blood type were suitable for all other kinds of blood transfusion, although the amount was limited.

“Mine is AB,” Bai Hongbo reached out one skinny hand, “So use mine.”

His words took everyone at present aback, even Dr. Xing. ‘He’s a cancer patient! How can he make the transfusion?”

“Mr. Bai,” Dr. Xing warned, “You need to think twice, for your body is not suitable for blood donation.”

A kind smile spread across Bai Hongbo’s face. “I’m all right. Just use it, as long as my blood can be of use.”

Dr. Xing was still dithering. Bai Hongbo opened his mouth once again.

“I’m indeed a failure. My daughter will never forgive me for what I’ve done. Now I get what I deserve.”

“There occurs a chance to atone for my sin, so how can I give it up?”

“I’m a dying man. If my blood could flow through my daughter’s vein, it’s also a way to continue my life.”

Bai Hongbo made the utterance as clearly as possible. With little strength, he sounded pretty resolute.

After some hesitation, Dr. Xing made up his mind, “Mr. Bai, I understand how you feel, but, as a doctor, I have to be responsible for my patient. Your blood cannot be used, for it would probably carry other viruses.”

As soon as he finished, Bai Hongbo sank into the wheelchair, as if losing all his strength.

A wry smile emerged on the corner of Bai Hongbo’s mouth… Tears welled in his eyes. ‘What a useless man I am!”

How ironic!

Time flied. Hours passed. ‘Why is the surgery still going?’

Finally, the door was pushed open. Dr. Xing came out. A trace of a smile played across his lips.

“Miss Bai is out of danger. Just wait for her to wake up.”

Finally…

Gu Yeze started to relax, and his expression softened, though he had gone weak at the knees.

“Uncle, Weijin is out of danger. Don’t worry.”

Gu Yeze repeated the word once more in Bai Hongbo’s ears, in case he hadn’t heard it.

But Bai Hongbo made no response still. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, yet he just slept there.

Taken aback, Gu Yeze hurriedly turned to Dr. Xing for help.

Yet Dr. Xing made no reply but silently shook his head.

Bai Hongbo was dead, probably due to the huge excitement…
