There were some photographs between the leaves of the newspapers.
Bai’s Group was nothing more than a shell company. Du Meihua had taken away plenty of family property and valuable things, and her whereabouts remained unknown.
The Bai house was mortgaged to a bank.
Bai Hongbo was pictured standing in a run-down neighborhood. It seemed that he had settled down for the time being.
Against all expectations, he who had been something of a popularity lived in such reduced circumstances.
Bai Weijin wasn’t happy about that. The residential area she and her mother had lived in was much shabbier, and the dark room they dwelled in a lot gloomier and danker.
Gu Yeze snatched the photo away from Bai Weijin.
“I can fix all those who hurt you, but I also want you to free yourself from hatred.” He looked at her.
For he saw Bai Weijin clasped the photograph in her hands.
“I want to visit Bai Hongbo.” Bai Weijin soon regained her composure.
Gu Yeze found her calm down, replying, “I’m going with you.”
“What’s that for? Go to see your father-in-law?” Bai Weijin retorted, vexing Gu Yeze so much that he wanted to give her a thrashing.
Bai Weijin seemed extremely fragile just now, which gave Gu Yeze such a false impression that she needed to be protected in every possible way that he forgot she had recovered herself in a minute.
She appeared high and mighty again.
Gu Yeze clenched his teeth.
“I’m just calling on him, and… giving him a hand.”
Gu Yeze raised his eyebrows, “Du Meihua?”
It was quite easy to have a conversation with a wise man who could grasp what she meant without further explanation. Bai Weijin smiled and kissed Gu Yeze on the cheek as a reward.
As a result, she was gotten into bed and given a good 'screwing”.
‘Why does Du Meihua think she would live a comfortable life after running off with Bai Hongbo’s savings? How can I let her off so easily?’
Before Bai Weijin sorted her dress out, Gu Yeze learned of Bai Hongbo’s new address from his people.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to keep you company?” Gu Yeze asked, staring at Bai Weijin with a menacing look in his eyes.
As expected, she answered, “Yes, I’m sure.”
Gu Yeze wasn’t annoyed, for he was aware that Bai Weijin didn’t need his company at all. He assigned two bodyguards to go with her and then began to deal with the minutes, though he was late for the meeting.
…
It was a run-down area.
The area was near the suburbs, and most of the inhabitants were retirees or elderly people left behind.
No sooner had Bai Weijin approached the neighborhood than a putrid odor emanated from inside. A woman in unseasonal wear was pointing at her husband’s nose, cursing him out.
She paused at the sight of Bai Weijin and wondered what impelled the smartly dressed woman to come here.
Yet her stare didn’t last for long. She turned around and continued to curse her husband for earning little money, doing no decent work, or something.
Bai Weijin walked through the alley to a building.
“Wait for me here, and I’ll be back in a while.” Bai Weijin uttered in a soft voice.
She knew the bodyguards were not far away.
The two exchanged glances. Gu Yeze did ask them to protect his wife, but they dared not disobey Bai Weijin, either. They stayed downstairs. The room was not well sound-proofed, and any noise could be heard.
“Ok.”
Bai Weijin wearing high heels went upstairs step by step.
The corridor echoed with her footsteps. It rained last night, and the roof was leaking, so there were pools of water on the ground.
The door was open, and a slight noise came from the room.
Bai Weijin noticed a strong smell of liquor as soon as she walked to the door.
She gave the door a gentle push, to find that it was going to fall down. The lights were off, and it took a while for Bai Weijin to adapt herself to the darkness.
Bai Hongbo who squatted down at a corner raised his head.
He stood up, stumbling towards Bai Weijin, “Why are you here?”
“I come to see you, my dear father.” His breath stank of alcohol, which made Bai Weijin feel sick. Yet she didn’t shrink but gave him a sarcastic stare.
“Get out of my face, you bastard! How could you, all of you, live on me while acting against my interests secretly?” Bai Hongbo howled, the bottle in his hand falling to the ground. He crouched down to pick it up but failed.
He was a downright mess.
Bai Weijin came closer, “What are you talking about? Live on you?”
Bai Hongbo looked up at her. Bai Weijin suddenly raised her voice, “Bai Hongbo, how dare you say I live on you? What were you doing when Bai Yinya and her mother gave me a cold shoulder or set me up those years? You’re just looking on.”
She continued as Bai Hongbo clutched the bottle in his hand.
“Look at the hut, exactly like the dark room you once locked Mom in, hum?”
Bai Hongbo looked around and painfully closed his eyes. How could Bai Weijin let him off? She dragged Bai Hongbo up, forcing him to take a careful look.
“You see, Mom and I lived in such a place for five years. In order to marry you, she broke off her relationship with her family, while you treated her as a madwoman and shut her away in a cramped room for five years because you wanted to marry another woman.”
“Enough is enough. Shut up and get out!” Bai Hongbo smashed the bottle and made a loud noise.
The two bodyguards were ready to go upstairs.
“Enough? Do you think that’s enough? Bai Hongbo, how do you feel when the woman you cherished for years left you alone after a plot?
Memories came flooding back as Bai Weijin observed a pained expression on Bai Hongbo’s face.
Bai Hongbo didn’t treat her badly in the very beginning, especially when she first arrived at Bai house. Out of guilt, he was kind to her, though he didn’t like her mother.
He once hoped to make it up to her and nurture her.
However, Du Meihua sensed his intention and set her up every now and again. In this way, Bai Hongbo gradually lost confidence in her.
Sometimes, she was given a hug behind Du Meihua’s back and commended for her academic progress. Bai Hongbo would touch her on the head and ask what reward she wanted.
Yet all those were a flash in the pan.
