Chapter 21

The next day, after we discovered that the silk fabric had a mysterious healing power.

We had a long discussion with all nine of us, including Isabelle, Hakim, and Chana. We came to one conclusion.

Everything leads back to the rain.

Assuming that the rain I make has healing power, the collected drinking water, the vegetables and fruits that grow from absorbing the rain, and the mulberry leaves, would all accumulate this healing power.

The mulberry leaves, which absorb the healing rain and store the healing power, are eaten by silkworms.

The silk produced by the silkworms, which have accumulated healing power in their bodies, is woven into fabric.

The secret of the silk fabric's power might be the concentrated power of the rain, which has been amplified through several stages. This was our conclusion.

It’s all speculation, but considering the effects of the crops in our farm, everything fits. Chana’s recovery, Isabelle’s knee improving before the silk fabric was applied, and the fact that we are all in excellent health and never feel tired.

When we reached this conclusion, my father suddenly declared,

“Let’s stop making money from this silk fabric. We can manage without relying on that money.”

“Eh? Is that okay, Dad?”

“It’s fine. It’s fine. If we make money from this, it could lead to more serious problems than just revealing the secret of the rain. Rich and powerful people would go crazy trying to find the source of the silk.”

Isabelle nodded.

“Yeah, that’s a very plausible scenario.”

“Then, I want to use the power of this fabric to help poor people.”

“Of course! I expected as much from Alesia.”

Chana has been looking at me with sparkling eyes ever since this conversation started. By the way, I’ve already told Chana’s mother to keep it a secret. We’ve told her that Chana’s recovery was due to medicine and nutrition.

“But there are rich people who suffer from diseases that can’t be cured by money, right?”

Hakim unexpectedly said.

“Isn’t it a pity to exclude rich and noble people who use silk for other reasons? There are good people among the rich too. I’ve sold water to such people many times when I was a water seller.”

Everyone in the room looked at Hakim with a surprised expression.

Among us, Hakim has probably suffered the most from poverty. His father suddenly disappeared when he was young, and he started carrying heavy water to work for his sick sister when he was around six or seven years old. If the water didn’t sell well, he would skip dinner to save money for his sister’s medicine.

I looked at Hakim, thinking, “There are people in this world who, despite suffering from poverty, never let their hearts become tainted.” Hakim’s heart has always been beautiful since the first time I met him.

“Hakim, you’re right. But there are countless people in this country who suffer from lack of money. Shouldn’t we start by helping those people first?”

Everyone nodded, and we decided to use the silk fabric to help poor people for now.

The first person was a child of a woman who works at a meat shop in the market. It’s a shop where we often buy lamb. Her ten-year-old son has been unable to move his lower body since he had a high fever from a contagious disease when he was an infant.

The woman and my parents are familiar with each other, and the woman occasionally talks about her concerns for her son’s future.

“As long as my husband and I are healthy, it’s fine. But if we both die, what will happen to that child? The thought of it is unbearable.”

Since Isabelle had never been to the shop, it was a good opportunity to go there. My parents first said, “We want to bring some leftover vegetables and fruits,” and found out where the woman lived. Ten days after my parents delivered the vegetables, Isabelle went to the woman’s house with the silk fabric.

Would it really be able to heal such a difficult condition? What would we say if it didn’t work? Everyone was worried. In the end, we had no choice but to rely on Isabelle’s “I’ll do my best” and wait anxiously for her return.

That night, Isabelle returned to the farm.

“At first, they didn’t believe me. But I said, ‘I don’t want money. If there’s a sick or injured person in this house, I want to pray for them,’ and they let me in.”

Isabelle was quite suspected.

However, she managed to get inside with her excellent talking skills, and while chatting with the son, she applied the silk fabric all over his body. She said, “This fabric was woven with the heart of my grandson. I hope some of his energy can be shared with you,” as she placed it on his body.

“I was drenched in cold sweat. If nothing happened after doing all that, I would just be a crazy old woman.”

However, amidst the suspicious gazes, the son moved his legs.

His thin, underdeveloped feet started to wiggle, and when touched, the boy shouted, “I can feel it!” In front of his disbelieving parents, he managed to move his legs a little. Isabelle couldn’t help but cry with the boy and his parents, who were crying with joy.

“With practice, that boy will be able to walk. The effect of this fabric was terrifyingly powerful.”

The boy’s parents apparently gathered all the money they had at home and tried to give it to Isabelle as a thank you.

“I said from the beginning that I don’t want money. Just keep the fact about me and the fabric a secret.”

She didn’t take any money and made them keep the secret about the fabric before leaving.

“But they insisted that I take the lamb meat from their home.”

The nine of us had a hearty dinner that night, using the lamb meat, feeling relieved and satisfied that we had helped.
