Chapter 75 of 100
Chapter 75

Without any particular aim, I just kept running through the night streets, slaughtering zombies.
If I ventured further into the densely populated areas from where the Otas were, it would be a scene that could be called hell. The roads were still congested with cars, probably left that way since the pandemic began, and the sidewalks and spaces between them were densely packed with zombies. Buildings that had been burned and charred, now nothing more than ruins, could be seen everywhere, likely because fires had started and burned until the rain extinguished them.
It has been about two months since the pandemic began.
In this situation, it's safe to assume that there are no survivors in similar urban areas.
It would be impossible for ordinary humans to move through this area, and it would also be impossible to move by car.
I wasn't searching for survivors or trying to save them out of some noble purpose.
However, if there were any survivors, my actions of cutting down the zombies I encountered might benefit them.
Moreover, there was no guarantee that these zombies wouldn't eventually make their way to where the Otas were.
When I left the densely populated areas, my line of sight detection system started to react occasionally.
There might be survivors or their communities in those areas.
But I didn't want to get involved.
To put it simply, it was just too much trouble.
I wasn't seeking human interaction.
If I were, I would have begged Ota to let me stay with them.
I didn't want to help people either.
If I did, I could just reveal my power without hiding it.
Besides, there was no guarantee that they were good people.
If they were bad, would I then have to kill them according to my own values?
More than anything, I might have been afraid of going through that again.
The emptiness of being pushed away by someone I thought was close.
That's why I hid my power.
But by hiding my power, I might be setting myself up for that very outcome.
While I was lost in thought, mindlessly killing zombies, I realized that the surroundings had become slightly brighter.
It seemed that night had already turned to day.
Usually, I would take temporary shelter in the upper floors of apartment buildings, but since it was too much trouble to move around in the daylight, I broke into a shuttered store in the arcade street with brute force.
It was probably a café or something similar.
There were a few tables at the front, and a kitchen behind the cash register counter.
There were a few zombies inside, but I cleaned them up and moved them to the corner.
I moved a table, infused magic into the ring on my thumb, and opened my item box to retrieve a backpack, which I placed on the floor and used as a pillow.
I decided to spend the time here until nightfall.
But what should I do in this situation?
This has been on my mind for the past few days as I continued my routine of moving at night and resting during the day.
When I thought I had returned from another world to Japan, I found myself in a world where zombies roamed freely. Initially, I left my house to search for survivors based on Yuki's email.
On the way, I met Kaede and helped her.
I decided to help her and sought a place where we could live, and I believe we achieved that goal.
I confirmed that the Self-Defense Forces were still operational, and at least this world wasn't completely destroyed.
However, with zombies overflowing the streets and the phenomenon of people turning into zombies upon death, it was clear that the world was slowly heading towards destruction.
What exactly are these zombies, and this phenomenon of turning into zombies upon death?
From what I heard, during the time when communication lines were still operational, the pandemic was happening worldwide.
I thought about using my power from the other world to find the cause and a solution, but how could I investigate something that had spread across the world?
Perhaps the best course of action would be to seek out the Self-Defense Forces and offer my power to the country.
But that would mean revealing my power.
In the other world, my companions, the hero Rindou, would have used his power without hesitation to help everyone.
The holy maiden Eris would probably do the same; her compassion extended to everyone, even the demon race.
The great sage Robelia might be able to understand the cause of this situation.
I closed my eyes and thought about my old companions.
I hope they are all safe.
Considering the time that has passed since we returned through the portal, it has been over five years in that world.
I hope nothing like a war has broken out, as we had feared.
With these thoughts, I slowly drifted off to sleep.
I've decided to update one chapter per week on weekends!
It might be unstable, depending on the stock, whether it's Friday to Sunday, Saturday and Sunday, or just Sunday, but I appreciate your understanding and support!
