"Could it be that the news of the engagement has already spread to so many people, even reaching Cyril?"

"No, I don't think many people know about it yet. As far as I know, only the upper echelons of the palace and the temple are aware of the details. There was supposed to be a strict gag order."

While recalling the day I was summoned by Prince Henry, I asked Cyril about what was bothering me.

In response, Cyril casually replied that he only knew part of the story.

"If that's the case, why do you know about it?"

"How should I know?"

I couldn't help but point out the inconsistency, but I don't think I was in the wrong.

Information that is under a strict gag order in both the palace and the temple is not supposed to leak to the public.

So why does he know?

Even when I glared at him, Cyril just gave a sly smile and responded with another question.

He clearly has no intention of answering.

Sighing to calm my slightly irritated feelings, I took a sip of tea.

"The palace wanted to keep that man's mistake a secret until the king and queen returned, but it seems difficult."

"Does that mean my parents are making a lot of noise?"

"Yeah, your parents don't seem to have any intention of keeping it a secret."

I see.

Even though a gag order was in place, because my parents don't want to hide it, people can guess what's going on.

"You seem to be positive about the engagement being broken off, so I'll help your parents."

"Cyril?"

"What? I'll just spread a little rumor in society to make it easier to break off the engagement. Don't worry, I won't do anything to harm you."

Isn't that called information manipulation?

When I glared at Cyril, who was smiling, he shrugged.

However, if he's willing to help my parents, there's no need to stop him.

I don't think I could stop him even if I tried, so there's nothing I can do.

Well, Cyril has always been on my side.

If he says he won't do anything to harm me, I believe he'll handle it well.

I don't need to worry about myself.

I'm not sure what will happen with Prince Henry.

That's a bit concerning.

But maybe I don't need to worry anymore?

I won't be his fiancée anymore.

"Well, since you look fine, I'll take my leave."

"Thank you for your concern."

"Don't worry about it. I'm doing this because I want to."

Cyril indicated that the conversation was over.

I thanked him, and he smiled back.

It was a rare, very gentle smile for him.

A few days later, or rather, about a week after being summoned to the palace, the king and queen returned to the capital earlier than expected.

An urgent report about Prince Henry's actions had been sent to the king and queen, who were in a neighboring country.

The king and queen seemed to want to avoid the engagement being broken off, but it was too late.

Thanks to my parents' energetic efforts starting the day after I was summoned by Prince Henry, and Cyril's behind-the-scenes work, by the time the king and queen returned, the engagement could not be avoided.

So, it was dissolved.

Prince Henry wanted to break it off, but to avoid damaging my reputation, the engagement was nullified.

This was apparently suggested by the king.

Father said it was only natural since Prince Henry was the one who made the mistake.

Of course, I'm not the only one who benefits from the dissolution.

We could have broken it off due to infidelity, but if it was dissolved, the damage to Prince Henry's reputation would be less.

If the marquis family had broken it off, it would have affected the reputation of the entire royal family, so dissolution was the safest resolution.

However, before the engagement was dissolved, the rumors about Prince Henry and the Gordon baron's daughter had already spread widely in society.

It's hard to say if there will be no damage at all.

People might not say it openly, but there will certainly be rumors about the reasons for the engagement's dissolution.

Many nobles enjoy such gossip.

"So, the engagement between you and the prince has been properly dissolved."

"Thank you. I should be able to go to the territory without any problems now."

"Right. We still need to adjust the compensation, but we'll handle that."

"Yes. It would have been nice to go to the territory with Sophia, but..."

"That depends on the royal family's future actions."

When I went to the living room at my parents' request after they returned from the palace, they explained the content of their discussion with the king.

The engagement was successfully dissolved.

I sighed in relief.

It's unusual for the dissolution procedures to be completed on the same day as the meeting.

Marriage contracts are handled by the temple.

Normally, after the discussion with the king, an application for the dissolution of the engagement would need to be submitted to the temple, which would take more time.

It was expected to take at least a week, or even a month.

However, it was done immediately.
