My possessions are a few old clothes and a letter containing a secret from my mother.
My birth family, the Nier household, apparently has the power to sew blessings into clothing.
My name in my previous life was Tsumugi, and in this life, it is Yui.
Given that I was in the handcraft club in my previous life, the sewing profession in this life seemed like my calling.
Yes, during my childhood when I was still unaware of the family's specialty... I was raised to a certain extent.
I had to mend the clothes of a spirit.
The small spirit seemed hurt, sobbing quietly, and its clothes were tattered.
I often saw such spirits.
Since I was born into this world, my eyes could see such things, and to my surprise, I could also manipulate what seemed to be my own magic.
Being a baby is boring.
Even though I couldn't understand words at the time, I didn't feel any affection from the people taking care of me.
I spent most of my time sleeping, but with the memories of my past life and a sense of self, not being able to move as I wished was stressful. If I couldn't see spirits or manipulate magic, I might have broken down.
So, to pass the time, I used my magic, which I had stretched out like thread, to mend the spirit's clothes.
At first, the spirit was frightened by the magic extending out, but it was surprised when it saw the magic mending its clothes and its eyes sparkled.
After finishing the mending, I snapped the magic thread, but the mended thread remained, shining on the spirit's clothes.
The spirit kissed my cheek and flew away happily and joyfully.
From then on, my magic was mostly used for the spirits. Even after I received the spider and needle as a gift (or rather, a task) on my tenth birthday and was assigned mending work... while I sewed ordinary clothes normally... the spider's thread infused with magic was not ordinary... but I thought I was helping out normally.
My hands could sew more beautifully and quickly than anyone else... and even faster and more beautifully than the sewing machine from my previous life, but by the time I realized that such skills were worthless in this household, it was too late.
Days of being scolded
Meager meals
Being laughed at as a worthless child and treated as a nuisance by my family
The fact that my younger sister, who could sew with uneven stitches but infuse them with magic, further worsened my position.
...Ordinary people apparently can't manipulate magic like thread.
But the bloodline of the family had a special contract with spiders, allowing them to infuse magic into the threads and sew blessings.
Actually, I could sew like that too, but by the time I realized it, my motivation to produce anything valuable for this family had been completely eroded.
Well, my family was never good to begin with, and it seems I might be destined to have an unfortunate relationship with blood relatives from my past life.
I want to have hope for my future family.
Then, at the age of fifteen, I was sent out of the house.
There is a god who discards, and a god who picks up... The person who saw my work and desired my skills for the beauty of the results, rather than thinking I was a failure who couldn't infuse blessings, took me in.
My sister was upset... apparently, the person was a handsome nobleman well-known in the capital, and one of the top candidates for her marriage.
When she learned that I was going as a seamstress, not as a bride, she became cheerful and said ridiculous things like, "In the future, I'll be the lady and you'll work for me, so show me respect."
The people in my family are like that, always thinking they are special. It's exhausting.
However, as a member of the Nier family, even as a seamstress, the other side apparently paid a considerable amount of money.
It was natural that the money, which could be considered a preparation fee, was not given to me... The lady who would be my superior in charge of mending at the new house shed tears at my appearance and the few possessions I had.
After meeting with the head of the house, Lord Karostiera Rodan, I was given a bath, polished, and dressed in the lady's daughter's hand-me-downs (which were almost like new), and served a proper meal in the dining room. I apologized to the head chef because my stomach had shrunk and I couldn't eat most of it, and even the stern chef teared up.
My body was emaciated, and at fifteen, I looked like I was ten, with dry hair and skin from malnutrition. I looked like I had been picked up from the bottom of a refugee camp (I was technically a minor noble), and the treatment I received at home was easily guessed by the Karostiera family, who quickly decided to welcome me.
People from the Nier family were not initially welcomed, as the reputation of my family was generally poor.
But when they saw a child who had clearly been abused, they treated me kindly.
