I was taken to a dining room that wasn't for the servants.
The table for six (there were six chairs) was elegantly luxurious, probably for Lord Rodan and a few guests.
But why me too?
Lord Rodan explained to me, tilting my head in confusion.
"Because you are now the fiancée of Lord Arjitt, your status is higher than mine. Should I call you Lady Yui?"
I shook my head vigorously from side to side.
Come to think of it, the Nuiel family was technically nobility, but during my childhood, I only learned the bare minimum manners and reading and writing from a visiting teacher... Besides that teacher, there were no servants who treated the children with proper etiquette. Furthermore, that teacher was fired as soon as he pointed out the servants' attitude towards the children.
If they were normal parents, they would have fired the servants, but those were my parents. They probably found a normal teacher annoying.
With the memories of my past life, I barely realized that I was technically nobility.
After being treated like an ill-treated slave for five years, I had completely thought of myself as a common seamstress.
I shook my head so much that I almost got dizzy, and I realized that Lord Rodan and the former king... Lord Arjitt were chuckling at me.
"It's fine. In this case, Rodan is Yui's guardian, protector, and... well, too young to be a father, so more like an older brother."
"I didn't hire Yui, but the Nuiel family has abandoned their responsibility towards you in the contract."
Abandoned
To be honest, I felt relieved.
"The problem is the contract with the spider."
At Lord Arjitt's serious voice, I saw the spider that was playing with my hair on my shoulder.
It had grown to the size of my palm... yeah, the spider has grown too.
It didn't move much at the Nuiel house, but after a period of growth, it started to tilt its head with me or play with my hair like this.
"Well, since he's the head of the Nuiel family... I haven't heard it either, and neither has Yui."
"The spider of the Nuiel family was originally a monster. You learned that monsters harm spirits and erode the world, right?"
I nodded. During my convalescence, the maid sisters read me picture books about the founding of the country.
There was a girl who had the ability to see pure spirits.
One day, she found a strange monster.
It was an evil spider monster that was supposed to eat spirits, but it was being cherished by many spirits.
And it was about to be slain by an adventurer's sword.
As she shouted to stop the adventurer, a young man with the same ability to see spirits blocked the adventurer's sword and saved the spider.
This was the meeting of the founding king, Romestometro, and the maiden who would become his queen.
The beginning of the picture book was roughly like this.
"The first spider was probably a holy beast. It's rare for a monster to become a holy beast, but it's not impossible. The children of monsters are said to be basically clones of their parents. Therefore, the head of the family is responsible for managing the contract to prevent the parent's nature from going out of control and to prevent them from being carelessly increased."
Of course, thinking about that head of the family, I suddenly feel anxious.
Holy beasts are animals that can handle magic without harming spirits and possess intelligence. They are usually one generation only, but their descendants are also likely to become holy beasts, so they are raised with care.
"In other words, when you get married... if you leave the Nuiel family, the contract must be rewritten. You shouldn't be abandoned with the spider."
Lord Rodan said this with a headache, and Lord Arjitt smiled wryly.
