Chapter 90

Andyen asked with interest, "What kind of mage?"
The middle-aged man in black frowned and said in a low voice, "Do you know Ambrofin?"
"Ambrofin? Ambrofin from Stone Street?"
"Yes."
"I see." Andyen suddenly laughed and said, "Offending the Fourth Prince, it's not easy to get rid of him. However, it's the first time I've heard that the owner of Stone Street is a mage."
The middle-aged man sitting opposite him said calmly, "I thought you knew, but it seems there are many things you don't know."
Andyen let out a light "hmm" and said, "Is there something even more interesting?"
The middle-aged man nodded and shook his head, saying, "I'm sorry, I can't answer your question. I think we should get to the point."
When Delov and Kogot visited Andyen together, Xalan was disguised as a middle-aged man and met with Andyen. However, their conversation was interrupted by a servant whispering something in Andyen's ear.
The servant's whisper was very soft, but Xalan still heard it clearly. Perhaps out of interest in the visitors, Xalan did not refuse Andyen's request to step aside.
The result was indeed noteworthy, as Xalan did not expect that the investigation by the capital's guard hall or the Fourth Prince would be so relentless, even seeking Andyen's help. The visitor did not realize that the murderer he had been desperately chasing was just behind a door.
Life is always full of unexpected twists.
The thick fog of doubt over the capital seemed to have disoriented Xalan. He was unsure how to choose the right direction, so he sought out Andyen. More accurately, he needed to visit Old Shaker again through Andyen.
So, he came here again in disguise.
"Do you not want to know who that chief of police is?" Andyen seemed to ignore Xalan's words and spoke to himself.
"Is it important who he is?" Xalan asked.
"It's not important as long as he hasn't traced you, but—" Andyen's smile grew wider, "If he accidentally traces you, you might regret it."
Xalan let out a hoarse laugh and said, "You think highly of him?"
Andyen nodded and said, "If we want to expand our business, he, as the chief of police in Paulownia District, will inevitably be someone we need to buy off. We naturally know a lot about him."
"A very capable person?"
"Very capable in the past, especially in investigative methods... But now, you know, people change, and I'm not sure if his skills have changed."
"I won't give him the chance to make me regret it."
"You seem very confident. Do you want to kill him?"
"No, if I kill him, it will only tell others that the murderer has never left the capital."
"Then are you going to let him keep investigating?"
"He won't have the chance to catch me."
Seeing the strange smile on the middle-aged man's face, Andyen understood that the other party had a sufficient plan and smiled without a word. Soon, the door to the room was opened again, and a servant came to Andyen's ear and said something.
Andyen nodded and turned to Xalan, saying, "Old Shaker agrees to see you. I'm sorry, but your eyes need to be blindfolded again."
...
"Delov, did Mr. Andyen say anything?" After leaving Andyen's luxurious mansion, Kogot, who had been waiting for a long time, hurriedly asked.
Seeing the other party's nervous and uneasy appearance, with small sweat beads covering his pale and plump cheeks, Delov shook his head and sighed, "Mr. Andyen is also helpless with my request for help."
"I'm not asking about that. I mean, did Mr. Andyen mention anything about me?" Kogot waved his hands and asked hurriedly.
Delov was taken aback, his gaze shifting to him with a strange look, "Why would Mr. Andyen mention you?"
"If he didn't, then it's fine, right?"
Kogot muttered to himself, then seeing Delov's strange look, he laughed dryly and explained, "It's fine, it's fine. Since Mr. Andyen can't help you, we can only go back now."
"Yes, let's go."
In despair, Delov could only do so.
There was only one carriage, and Delov needed to take Kogot back to the police station in Gertdan District before he could return. In the small carriage, he would suffer again.
On the way back, Delov was listless, gazing out the window. The clues given by Andyen indeed helped his investigation, but where could he find the "down-and-out middle-aged man" Andyen mentioned?
Suddenly, the carriage stopped abruptly, and Delov and Kogot collided with each other, causing Kogot to pull open the small window to the driver and start cursing.
"Noble sir, someone is blocking the road!" The driver looked back at Kogot's ugly face, squeezed together, and said helplessly.
"Who dares to block my carriage?" Hearing the driver's explanation, the angry Kogot opened the carriage door and came out, seemingly eager to give the person who blocked the carriage a lifetime of punishment.
His train of thought was interrupted, and Delov, out of curiosity, followed Kogot out of the carriage.
"Scum! Do you want to die?"
Before seeing what was happening, Delov heard Kogot's angry curses.
"It's Chief Kogot! Don't you recognize me? I am Titch, under Mr. Andyen! We had a drink together at the ball the day before yesterday!"
A young, unfamiliar voice made Kogot's tone slow down with doubt.
"Mr. Andyen's subordinate? Titch? I think I remember such a person. What's going on? Why are you blocking my carriage?"
"I didn't mean to block you, Chief Kogot. I actually want to provide some evidence to your friend."
"Evidence?"
"Yes? Didn't I hear that Chief Kogot and a friend visited Mr. Andyen to investigate the recent murders?"
"What? You know something?" Delov, who was behind the carriage, thought it was just another farce, but when the young voice mentioned the murders and evidence, he couldn't help but step forward.
"Who are you? Oh... Are you Chief Kogot's friend?" Titch looked at the hastily approaching Delov thoughtfully and asked.
"Yes! I am the chief of police in Paulownia District, Delov. I visited Mr. Andyen to investigate the murders in the alleys between Gertdan and Paulownia Districts." Delov quickly introduced himself.
"Very good, it seems I haven't stopped the wrong person. Sir, I am willing to provide some evidence to help you investigate the murderer!"
Titch lowered his head, a barely noticeable cruel smile on his face.
Since his partner was killed by that mysterious middle-aged man, Titch had been harboring hatred and seeking revenge, but the person he most hoped would kill him, Mr. Andyen, did not!
He couldn't accept this fact! He didn't want to face this outcome!
Mr. Andyen's warning after the incident only made his anger reach its peak, but this intense anger had nowhere to vent, causing him great distress. One day, he heard that a young man in Gertdan District was often inquiring about the alley murders, which piqued his interest. There were rumors that the dead in the alley were Mr. Andyen's people.
After searching for the young man's identity, he found out that he was just a minor figure in the Paulownia District police station, and his goal seemed to be finding the murderer. Driven by his desire for revenge, even though the hope was slim, Titch was willing to try. So, he revealed the middle-aged man's appearance and movements to the young man, but unexpectedly, that useless guy also ended up dead!
As the matter gradually subsided, his revenge began to fade.
Until today, when he heard from a friend in Mr. Andyen's mansion that someone was seeking the boss's help to investigate a murder, Titch's desire for revenge was rekindled!
So, he secretly stopped their carriage on the way back.
...
"What? You mean that young man asked you about the murderer?" Delov looked at the other party in disbelief, and after receiving a positive response, he lowered his head and smiled bitterly. Now he understood that the key piece of information his assistant had discovered was right in front of him.
After a brief explanation on the way, the three of them returned to the police station in Gertdan District. Some matters were not suitable for public discussion.
"Sir, I want to ask you, if you trace the murderer, do you have a way to catch him?" Titch sat opposite Delov, looking concerned.
If he couldn't catch the murderer even after tracing him, what was the point? This was what Titch was most worried about. He knew that the crime of murder in the Adria Kingdom was a serious offense, punishable by hanging!
Delov looked at the other party meaningfully and said, "You can rest assured. If I really trace the murderer, I will definitely have a way to arrest him!"
"Is that so? That's great!" Hearing the other party's affirmative response, Titch couldn't help but be excited.
"I'm curious, why do you want the murderer to be caught so much?" Delov asked, voicing his doubts.
"Without hiding it from you, sir, because the murderer killed my best companions! Every day and night, all I think about is revenge! But I know I don't have the ability, so I can only rely on others! Now the opportunity has come, I want to see him arrested and hanged piece by piece!" Titch said through gritted teeth.
Seeing the other party's deep-seated hatred and pain, Delov's doubts were resolved. It turned out that he and the other party were of the same kind, both seeking revenge and redemption... and he also needed to resolve his own inner turmoil.
"Do you know his current whereabouts?" Delov asked solemnly, getting to the point.
"Sir! Perhaps you don't know, but when you and Chief Kogot visited Mr. Andyen, that middle-aged man was already at Mr. Andyen's mansion!"
Saying this, Titch couldn't help but be uneasy, because these words were a betrayal of Mr. Andyen! His rationality could no longer suppress the intense desire for revenge in his heart.
Perhaps Mr. Andyen wouldn't care about this small matter, he could only console himself with that.
"What?"
Delov clenched his fists and stood up instantly!
He had been deceived by Andyen!

PS: Some readers mentioned that the calendar and titles might cause confusion about the world. In fact, these will be explained gradually in the later parts of the story.
Firstly, the Adria Kingdom is just a marginal country on the Eldran continent. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been mentioned that the undead fled from the center of the continent in ancient times. It is also stated that each country has different customs, politics, and cultures. The titles similar to Eastern titles are just one aspect of this country, while other countries have different appearances.
It's impossible for every country to be a carbon copy. They all have their own historical and cultural heritage, which might feel a bit awkward at first, but as the story unfolds, this sense of disharmony will gradually disappear.
Regarding the calendar, each era I have divided is not just for recording the history of Eldran. Each era has a specific year, such as 850 years of the New Faith Era, but the exact year is not given in the story. I plan to provide a historical document-like explanation at the end of this volume, as humans are a part of history, and this writing style gives a sense of depth.
The story is still in its early stages, and the overall content and plot are just the tip of the iceberg. I believe this will be a great story. My writing skills and slow updates are my weaknesses, but the interesting plot and its value are enough to be recognized.
Thank you to all the readers for your support. The book's performance is already poor, but I will continue to write because I like the story I have conceived.
