After the enrollment ceremony, it's time for the magic power test. The test is to determine each student's magic attribute and the amount of magic power they possess, which will be used to divide them into classes.
This year, there are about sixty new students, ten of whom are commoners. They will be divided into three classes based on their abilities.
Originally, this magic academy was only open to nobles. However, five years ago, a witch's curse caused monsters to overrun the country, creating a need for more magicians. As a result, three years ago, the academy began admitting commoners who possess magic power.
Everyone in this world has magic power, but the amount varies greatly from person to person. Only a limited number of people have enough magic power to use magic strong enough to fight monsters. While many nobles have high magic power, few commoners do. Unlike noble children, who learn how to handle magic from a young age, most commoners only start to use magic after entering the academy. It's also uncertain whether they can become magicians until they study at the academy. Nevertheless, the country must accept as many commoners as possible to produce more magicians.
The new students were gathered in the training field.
"Everyone will be tested again, so when your name is called, come forward," the teacher said. In front of the teacher was a large crystal ball, which is said to reveal a person's attribute and magic power when they place their hand on it.
The basic attributes are Water, Fire, Earth, and Wind. Additionally, members of the royal family may have the Light attribute, and the Dark attribute is extremely rare. In the novel, the heroine, who awakens as a saint, is determined to have the Holy attribute.
"Let's start with Prince Alphonse."
"Sure."
When his name was called, Alphonse stepped forward, and a chorus of cheers erupted from the group of noble girls.
The students, though not explicitly told to do so, naturally gathered in groups of nobles and commoners. Even though they wore the same uniform, the atmosphere around the nobles and commoners was clearly different. Naturally, Mina was among the commoners.
"That's the prince..."
"He's outstanding."
There were three girls among the commoners, including Mina: Emma, whose family are farmers, and Hanna, whose family are merchants. Mina had been living with them in the student dormitory for two days and had become friends with them.
"Really..."
Mina nodded in agreement with what the two girls were saying. Indeed, Alphonse had a different presence.
(Something about him is dazzling... Is this his aura? Or is it... his attribute?)
Mina, who had read the novel, knew Alphonse's attribute. He has two attributes: Fire and...
"Oh!"
When Alphonse placed his hand on the crystal, it emitted two strong lights, one red and one gold.
"Truly impressive magic power! And he has both Fire and Light attributes...!"
The teacher's words were met with loud cheers from the students.
"Light is special, right?"
"Even Prince Hartwig doesn't have it."
"Prince Alphonse, as expected..."
Alphonse raised his hand in response to the cheers and returned to the group of students.
(Up to this point, it's the same as the novel...)
Mina thought as she watched the students being called one by one for their tests. The last noble student to be called was...
"Roselia Lieber."
"Sure."
The heroine was called, and she stepped forward, placing her hand on the crystal. The crystal emitted a weak green light.
(Huh...?)
Mina tilted her head in confusion. The heroine in the novel was supposed to have the Water attribute and a very powerful magic power. If it were the Water attribute, it should have glowed blue.
"Wind attribute, and the magic power is average," the teacher said, taking notes.
"Wait, isn't that strange?"
Suddenly, a loud protest rose, and all the students turned their gaze to Roselia.
"Why am I not a Water attribute? The amount is so low. Is there something wrong with this crystal?"
"This crystal has been passed down in the academy for decades; it cannot be wrong," the teacher replied, sounding exasperated at Roselia's pouting face.
"Well... What's wrong with her?"
"The Lieber family only recently received their baron title."
"That's why upstarts are so troublesome."
Mina could hear the whispers of the noble girls.
(Ugh, nobles are really scary)
Shaking with fear at their mocking gazes, Mina tilted her head even more.
(That person... isn't she the heroine? But her name and appearance are the same... And she just said she's not a Water attribute?)
—Maybe.
An idea flashed through Mina's mind.
