Chapter 28

The leads they have in the investigation can be said to be really inaccurate. Perhaps because they only regarded this as a civil case at the start but of course, as per my plan, about a month later, someone called the police about investigating a faint foul odor emanating from one of the villas in the outskirts.

The villa was reported to be listed under my husband’s name so I also requested to go with them. I pretended to be very upset. Both my hands were clenched tightly on my clothes and my voice shook as I asked the female officer beside me, “Did something happen to my husband?”

She gave me a comforting smile, “No…Unlikely. It should be that a dead animal was rotting inside a room.”

Officer D, who was driving upfront, coldly snorted and said, “Not necessarily.”

This time, the police only dispatched a few officers plus 5 or 6 interns. When I think about what happened there, they’ll probably be surprised.

The villa is locked.

I took out the key and unlocked the door. I also told the officers that this was where my husband and I spent our honeymoons. D nodded, pushed the door open and went in. As he stepped inside, he almost immediately frowned.

A strong stench inside pervaded through the open door. Resembling the smell of rotten meat. The smell went straight on to people’s noses which made them want to puke. The faces of the officers near me suddenly changed, they could easily distinguish the smell as one of a rotting corpse.

The deeper they went into the house, the stronger the smell got. The source of the smell was in the center room on the second floor. The room was locked. D asked if I had a key. I told him that there was no key and that when my husband made the room, it was designed specifically so that it cannot be locked. I also did not know why it was locked now.

His brows furrowed deeper. Several officers went with him to knock down the door.

When the door opened, a very strong rotten smell escaped the room. The scene inside made the female intern beside me cover up her mouth to prevent herself from vomiting.

The first thing that caught everyone’s eyes was a corpse that did not look completely human, which should be the source of the smell. It appeared to be a bloated cadaver [1] . The whole body was swollen making it completely unable to make out its original appearance. It looked like a huge swollen chunk of meat. The corpse’s head, abdomen, legs were clearly marred with bloodstains.

Part of the body’s scalp seemed to have been cut apart, exposing the white skull inside. If you look carefully, you would find numerous and densely packed maggots crawling on top of the bone. The corpse’s dark eye sockets were crawling with insects and his eyeball that looked as if it had been forcibly plucked from its socket, fell down on the floor.

The legs were badly damaged and incomplete. The flesh that was torn apart yet still attached due to the tendon fibers joining them, had white small maggots continuously crawling as if taking the corpse as food for them to grow.

Lying next to the corpse was a man covered head to toe in the stench. His chest was still moving, signifying that he was still alive. His hair was in a disarray. Black hair and bloody flesh mixed with each other making the man appear unbearably filthy. He had a piece of meat in his mouth, a piece that looked already rotten. The man’s mouth was still moving, seemingly chewing it.

The lower part of his body was naked. From the door, they could see a white unknown liquid substance sticking on his legs. It appeared that the liquid had flowed out from the rear of his behind and had solidified.

In the liquid, the officers could clearly make out something crawling in the man. It was a swarm of maggots that crawled from his butt into the hole in his behind. And as it was crawling, the man still seemed to be muttering.

I trembled and walked up to have a look. Then I pretended to be shocked incredulous and covered my mouth as I retreated a few steps back. After finding a clean area, I fell to the ground, feigning dizziness.

[1] As bacteria decompose your body, they release awful smelling gases that cause it to bloat, which in turn forces a sickly green ooze of fluids out of your body.

T/N: Is it bad to say that I liked the gory bits? hehe… This chapter actually pacified the mini rant I did earlier. I basically wooped when I saw that the meat rotten.
